Oh wow! I tried porting over a Firefox extension with Beta 1 and it did not work. Guess it was not supported. Hopefully I can get it working now :)

I'm wondering how stable macOS 11 is at this point. Considering how stable the iOS/iPadOS 14 beta cycle's been, has Big Sur been "better" than Catalina overall? I mean, I know it's in beta yadda yadda yadda.. Just curious. I'm not yet willing to partition my MBP drive and I haven't had any luck getting it setup in a VM yet.

Well, the Mail app hasn’t opened itself up for attention since I stupidly upgraded my main partition so 👍

I think it’s not fair to compare macOS Big Sur to iOS, as iOS 14 is much smaller update to iOS 13 than Big Sur is to Catalina. My opinion is that Big Sur still needs polishing. What is more, some “pro” apps, such as Photoshop, have been unusable on beta 1/2. If you are interested in basic tasks it might be good enough, but definitely more work is needed. Will see how beta 3 is going to be. :)

Ok now try #2, downloaded the 4.96GB update, the Mac acted like it updated only for me to find it didn't update and wants me to download the update again... Let's see where this goes...

- Music app has the iOS 14 icon. To be honest, in the context of the bundle of media apps (Music, Podcasts and TV), I think that the new icon makes more sense and looks more in line with the other icons. Furthermore, it makes sense for the pink accent colour of the app. I liked the previous icon more, but I can see why Apple might have wanted to change it
- Battery icon is changed
- Notifications icon is updated and is no longer a low resolution one
- There's a separator after the sidebar
- The results box in the Music app now appears properly (and the app doesn't crash when having input larger than the size of the search field)
- In the Music app, right clicking on an item within the “Browse” and “Listen Now” content areas no longer opens the contextual menu at a random location. I believe the issue started occurring in Catalina, but it is resolved now.
- In the Music app, the "Play" icon is new. Not sure if I'm a fan of it. It is also inconsistent with the Podcasts app which uses the old one. Seems more like a bug (hopefully)
- The dialog box when choosing a profile picture in "Users & Groups" has been redesigned, before the text was going out of the selection
- Safari no longer crashes when I try to select a background image from the file dialog
- Spotlight seems to have been fixed
- Both the date and time appear in the menu bar. I think it was just the time before, but might be wrong about this one.
- Some of the highlighted controls across the system weren't rendering properly in the previous betas, this seems to have been fixed as well
- AirPods are no longer showing twice under "Sound" in the menu bar
- AirPods case battery charge now shows correctly
- New sounds when making screenshots and moving files
- The window with the saved passwords in Safari has been updated - before the background of the hovered state was overflowing from the right, now it's centred.

New issues:
- The menu bar says that battery service is recommended (battery capacity is at 93%). I saw another person on reddit having the same issue, so I assume it's a bug.
- Sidecar seems slightly broken. I'm getting lots of empty space on top of the screen and also very awkward extension of the sidebar (highlighted with a white circle)

I’ve already converted a handful of Chrome extensions into Safari extensions. The process is pretty straight forward and most of the simpler ones just work. More complex ones that require specific Chrome features (like the great suspender) don’t work, but that’s not surprising.

Fixed bugs:

1) Mail folders wouldn't open up to display sub-folders when dragging a mail over them
2) Mail rules which change text colour didn't work

New issue:

Credit cards removed from Apple Pay. Seems the Software Update settings had changed. Re-selected the option to automatically install security updates and the cards can now be added back.

Which extension and what was the error you got?

This one... https://github.com/iamadamdev/bypass-paywalls-chrome
The Chrome version killed Safari every time I opened it, then the Firefox version just didn't do anything.

Disclaimer: Before everyone jumps up and down about this, just know I was doing it just from a dev perspective. I actually pay for subscriptions to the FT and The Economist (about $1,000 a year)...

The battery icon seems to be updated:
