I just downloaded the beta 10. Is there some trick to adding Google Maps to Carplay? Or is that on hold until the official release of iOS 12?

My iPhone X still has the pop up message after updating. This is pissing me off!
I presume the update was in beta stage

The public beta program has done nothing to improve Apple's quality of software. If anything, it's decreased since Apple moved to a yearly upgrade program for macOS. High Sierra was junk for 3 or 4 months, and it was promised to be a "quality update" like Snow Leopard. iOS 11 had a lot of bugs early on as well, despite the public beta program.

We now have less stable software and people on Twitter moaning about bugs when running beta software on their primary devices.
My attitude towards Apple SW revisions is to only apply from the x.1 release onward

Well, after the holiday weekend here in the US, I expect J. Clover and co. will be in FULL EFFECT leading up to Sept. 12.

I want at least 25 postings per day, pls.

This is the most nerdy and modern version of “Peter and the wolf”.

Luckily and finally, the wolf has come for real, bye Peter!!

The alert dialog was annoying, but iOS 12 even in late beta, feels ‘done’ in the way that the 11.0 initial release didn’t feel.

Looking forward to seeing the gm candidate without any beta code - I bet it’ll fly.

Guessing the car will need to updated as well, once iOS 12 is out? We always have to take the Subaru in to the shop to get it updated?

It's sad to see so many fragile, feeble souls with "first world problem" syndrome.

Recall, you all agreed to use pre-production beta software on secondary devices. Devices not intended for production use. That's what you agreed to when you signed up for the developer beta. You should expect this - No one forced you into this. It is presumably your own doing, and yet you are complaining about it! Phrases like “plagued”, "annoying" or “finally” give this incredibly minor issue way more importance than it deserves - besides, IT'S BETA! - It’s like complaining to a cook that the meal is not finished while it’s still being cooked.

The only thing that is plaguing us are your annoying complaints! So please people, stop complaining! Finally!

So true, waaaayyyy too many whiners. I’ll admit it, I installed on my primary device after a handful of initial releases went by and it seemed pretty stable. I’ve got it on a 6S+, 128gb and it’s been very smooth sailing. Only ran/run into two small issues: 1) I had the "Update available" notification - annoyingbut not a big deal, and 2) nowhere is there any way for me to report any bugs I may run in to. I can’t find anything anywhere to allow me to report (if I needed to).

Does anyone else think the b on Public beta should be capitalized?

Huh? At least in my field (science), latin phrases & greek letters (spelled out) are never capitalized, even in titles or beginning of sentences. in vitro, in vivo, in situ, alpha, beta, gamma (etc. etc. etc.).

Obviously you need to download a new version of google. Apes. Which doesn’t exist yet. Apps don’t magically gain major new features unless they are updated by the developers.

Lol. Yeah, the car.

"Users were being prompted to update to a "new iOS update" every time they unlocked their phone or dismissed Notification Center."

lol.. How annoying

I always recon now you can tell by how many bugs there are in a beta that needs to be fixed, by the number of current one..

I dunno if that's an accurate measure, but seems to work well for me :D

It seems to solve the problem.

It also seems to have introduced an interesting bug in Music, as I get the option to download pieces in my Downloaded Music section, which seems to happen instantaneously with a crap connection that could’ve barely streamed them. Just hope it won’t actually start pulling data. If the Feedback Assistant ever stops spinning and “encounter[ing] a problem”, I’ll probably report it.

I’m encouraged by the relative lack of serious bugs in this beta cycle, which matches my favorite (9) in quality so far, with better performance all around.

I’m less encouraged by what some of the bugs say about the capability/maturity of the testing methodology used by Apple along the way. A constant reminder to update an expired beta in the absence of a replacement is the sort of thing that could’ve been caught by automatic tests, sanity checking or just having someone actually use the beta internally before making it public. It’s hardly serious, but catching it before public beta should be trivial with the vast array of well understood testing methodologies out there at their disposal.

I really hope they continue to focus on improving quality, as one of the main reasons to pick Apple has traditionally been that they (used to?) understand that “premium” isn’t about materials, sleek design, finish or the nice details.

Those things tend to be present in a premium product, much like a fever tends to be present in infections, but aren’t the thing itself.

Premium is the peace of mind that comes with one more thing you don’t need to deal with, one more thing taken care of, one more solution that just works in the most boring manner possible, no surprises and no behaviors that astonish the user (e.g. formatting internal storage if you hold volume down a second or two is a potentially useful feature for some folks that would be astonishing to the rest of us). “I need a capable phone”, solved by “just get the current iPhone” and then you don’t ever think about phones again until you need something that wasn’t a part of the concept “a phone” at the time, handing the old but still-working triumph of engineering on to someone else when you switch, rather than the recent chase after the new refresh with some percent faster performance due to steadily improving semiconductor tech.

I hope they keep heading back to that, as I don’t want a product I’m thinking about, but rather a product that gets out of the way so I can focus on the stuff I do want to think about. Only reviewers and device makers should need to think about their devices, and devices should not draw attention.

The real test of quality is “could you go back?”. When you get an SSD, you’re not going to be awed, but you’ll never go back to spinning rust. Get a Retina screen and you’re not going to go back to uncalibrated 8500K screens with low pixel densities. But I could easily have gone back to the SE from the X, which tells me they’re unclear on what they’re doing.

Some of these bugs reinforce that overall impression. But they do seem to realize they’ve strayed and to be trying to get back in the game.

Google has to update their app with support, which they are not officially able to do until iOS 12 is officially released. So I would say you are still another month or so before Google maps or Waze are available, at the earliest.

Absolutely agreed. It reminds me of the arguments I used to have 'back in the day" with PC vs. Mac users. As an avid Apple fan, I used to say that I don't want to have to memorize cryptic commands or worry if something was going to work. I just want to use it and not have it get in the way.

Anyway, I'm happy that Apple addressed that annoying bug as it did drive me nuts for all of a day. but one bug that was introduced - at least on my phone but it makes me wonder because I haven't seen anything else about it - is that the red circle that appears in a corner of the Messages app that displays the number of unread text messages I have. Still works on the Mail app but it's been missing from Messages for several versions of the iOS 12 beta now. I've filled out the Feedback and submitted it, but so far it' not fixed. I miss that! It's annoying to not be able to look at the home screen and see that I have unread texts and have to open the Messages app to see that I do.

Only thing plaguing me is your annoying tone and Apple's amateurish way of running it's business nowadays.

Anyone else getting a MAJORLY laggy keyboard - even after a hard reset? Like I can't type a sentence at normal speeds without it missing letters etc

And notice they STILL haven't fixed either the corrupted closing of apps animations nor the minuscule hit boxes on closing apps from the dock?!

WTF are apple doing these days? Yearly updates are too much for them.

Beta software. Please use the feedback tool.

Not experiencing the issues you're reporting.

Critical alerts are both welcome and disappointing. There's still no way to allow only certain TEXT or chat messages to come through is there?

Ideally I'd like DND on while always allowing texts from wife and sons school.
