What if the update from the update alert to fix the update alert bug is an update alert bug that needs fixing by an update needing an update alert which is a bug?

You want a million beta users to find bugs that are only encountered by one in a million users. Of course you should avoid bugs like this one that everyone encounters.

The public beta program has done nothing to improve Apple's quality of software. If anything, it's decreased since Apple moved to a yearly upgrade program for macOS. High Sierra was junk for 3 or 4 months, and it was promised to be a "quality update" like Snow Leopard. iOS 11 had a lot of bugs early on as well, despite the public beta program.

We now have less stable software and people on Twitter moaning about bugs when running beta software on their primary devices.

Heh… I left my tester iPhone 6s turned off this week because when the reports of the Please Update bug started to surface in numbers I figured "Why bother?"

I just powered it up, went to Software Update, tapped to Download and Install Public Beta 10 and… BLAMMO!

Apple should restrict the public beta. They have more important things to do than deal with bugs on a development OS just because people want to run it on their main devices. Nobody understands the meaning of beta anymore since Google and others abused the term for a decade.
Just wait til the bugs hits the 10's of millions of public iOS users that aren't interested/savy enough to sign up for the beta/buggy version? yea... that's smart.

Correct. The final beta of prerelease iOS 11 was great. The actual 11 release was a disaster. This is because Apple is holding a bunch of stuff back for the surprise/marketing aspects until keynote day. The last beta should be the GM, period. But it won't be.

I'm terrified of the new release coming up.

I just kept checking for an update every time I unlocked my phone until there finally was an update.
[doublepost=1535740076][/doublepost]Thank goodness it alerted me of an available update while I was installing the update that gets rid of the frequent "update available" updates.

So is beta 12 bug free?

As long as it’s a beta it has bugs. Even when it reaches Golden Master it will still have bugs. That’s how software works. Duh...

This is why I've stopped installing beta software from Apple.

That’s right. You have no business installing any beta software on any in-use device you rely on. That’s not what betas are for. Betas are for finding problems and testing features, not showing off to your friends that you have latest whatever installed. The vast majority of people who install beta software have no business doing so and probably don’t participate in the beta reporting process either. it’s just a game they play.

I know. I was kidding... mostly. But seriously, is it as stable as the current build of iOS 11 yet? It should be close at least since we're getting very near to final release.

Does anyone on beta 12, while using watchOS 4 have tomorrows activity challenge badge? Mine seems to have gone missing since upgrading from iOS 11.

Ironically I had to check macrumors to confirm an actual ios 12 update was available lol

Have you read that it isn't?

It's been very stable and "quick" for the last few beta releases.

It's sad to see so many fragile, feeble souls with "first world problem" syndrome.

Recall, you all agreed to use pre-production beta software on secondary devices. Devices not intended for production use. That's what you agreed to when you signed up for the developer beta. You should expect this - No one forced you into this. It is presumably your own doing, and yet you are complaining about it! Phrases like “plagued”, "annoying" or “finally” give this incredibly minor issue way more importance than it deserves - besides, IT'S BETA! - It’s like complaining to a cook that the meal is not finished while it’s still being cooked.

The only thing that is plaguing us are your annoying complaints! So please people, stop complaining! Finally!
