According to 9to5Mac, Apple is also continuing work on the next iteration of OS X, 10.10, which has been seeded internally. The next iteration of OS X is said to alter the look of the operating system to bring it in line with iOS 7.

Oh come on Apple, while i like iOS7 it's interface is in no way better than OS X.
Please please listen to the already crying power users and dying breed of mac professionals.
Give them something that feels and works better, not a toy to play with.

And saying that please do some thing new for iOS 8 when the time comes ofcourse. iOS 7 is good and that's only because of the added features, but the interface still sucks.

Oh god... that looks terrible. I prefer the way things were in OS X 10.6.8... before Apple iPadified their computers.

Oh it’s hardly terrible, and I definitely prefer the uniformity of the designs vs. the hodgepodge of different styles/palettes/perspectives (2D vs. 3D) of the normal array of icons in the dock.

That being said [as someone previously pointed out], there’s obviously quite a bit of room for improvement: not using the iOS7 curved corner background, maybe have some depth, or a slight 3D rotation (see the new iWork icons for examples).

What would be nice, is a consistent design language for 3rd party app icons - sometimes when I look at my dock, it’s a mess (though I tend to launch apps through QS/Alfred/Spotlight way more than I use the dock anyway :D )

...and if you’re not using 10.7, 10.8 or even 10.9, you’re missing out on some great features, and nothing has been lost to iOSification (this is something from a developer/architect who would be the first to say, OSX is no longer a viable tool)

On my 27-inch iMac, Late 2013 I have an issue where Launchpad hangs or gets stuck halfway when flipping between pages using my trackpad. Mail frequently becomes unresponsive when quitting.

10.10 was called Puma. It came out in 2001. The next version after Mavericks would be Mac OSX 11, assuming they continue this naming convention.

So you decided you're gonna be THAT guy this time? Here's a couple hints: 10 isn't the same as one, and software version numbers aren't the same as decimal numbers.

OS X 10.9.2, nicknamed "Carve", is also said to be in testing with Apple's software engineering teams, adding minor feature enhancements and additional bug fixes after the 10.9.1 update.According to 9to5Mac, Apple is also continuing work on the next iteration of OS X, 10.10, which has been seeded internally. This is expected but still disappointing. As one of those who really doesn't like the new look of iOS7 I'll hate to see OS X follow that same look.

10.10!! Given that the last zero is mathematically ignored does this mean we are regressing to 10.1. I always thought '11' followed '10.9'. At least that's what I was taught at school.

10.10 is a version number. It is not a normal number that follows decimal rules..

It's the 10th iteration of this brand of OS. 10.10 is perfectly legitimate in version number naming scheme. And they could continue to 10.11, 10.12, etc.. if they wanted.

From what I've read, the NSA is only spying/eavesdropping on those outside of the US - something about the Constitution (or Bill of Rights?) making it illegal to spy on their own?

Yeah, I know. In fact, for a non-US citizen, I'd dare say I'm well aware of the details - from NSA's mandate to the FISA -courts etc.

What befuddles me is, the american media seeming more upset by the NSA potentially breaking the law by spying on US citizens than by annoying the hell out of everyone else. There's been marked deterioration in US foreign relations with many close U.S. allies (e.g. Germany) after Prismgate.

Why? Well, besides Prism's affronting blanket assumption of the rest of the world being potential liabilities, there are legal issues here as well...

Example: Finnish law (as well as most european laws) defines the divulging of certain types of information to foreign agencies as espionage, if the material can be construed to negatively affect national security, the national economy or foreign relations.

This gets problematic as I as holder of such information (and I'm not going into details) am liable for the data's safekeeping. Now that there is reason to speculate that the NSA can read anything I upload on google docs, dropbox, skydrive, iCloud and the likes, I must not do so. Local cloud service providers are actively scrambling to distance themselves from the US and purely domestic service providers are writing contracts left and right.

When will the NSA / CIA / DHS understand that the biggest threat to U.S. security is the constant global outrage they are provoking.

RGDS,

... Also, is it normal that they are working on .1 and .2 at the same time or is this a first?

In the software development world, it's not uncommon to be working on the next 6 to 8 versions. There's an ever changing Plan & Schedule listing what features will be released when.

Hopefully it also fixes the random spinning beach ball/system hangups.

Curious what system you have? I have the same problems. I've been booted into windows and running for a week straight with no issues.

Thinking it might be GPU related but curious what system and specs you have.

Ah, I see. I misinterpreted your original post I was replying to

Next version could be OS X ( 10.10 )
or maybe its time to move to the next level if its a big enough change
OS XI (11)

Depends if they this OS X has become too much of an established brand name to drop

Ugh I hope they don't screw up the next major release. And if they radically change the UI then maybe start it as 11.0 instead?

I'm excited for 10.9.1 and I'll be upgrading when it's released and they fix autocomplete in numbers.

Software is different. It's not an actual decimal number.

Version 1.0
Version 1.1
Version 1.1.1 <--- show me THIS in math class
Version 1.2
...
Version 1.9
Version 1.10
Version 1.11
Version 1.12

That's the way it's done.

The latest version of Chrome is 31.0.1650.41
The latest version of Firefox is 33.0a1
The latest version of the Linux Kernel is 3.12 (prior to this was 3.9, 3.10 and 3.11)

I hope OS X 10.10 will not be created with the same philosophy Microsoft created Windows 8 thinking that we all now have huge touchscreen displays in front of our desktops. Seriously I installed Windows 8 on Fusion out of curiosity and I was like 'what were they thinking?'.

I like windows 8, I put it on an old pc of mine and think its a pretty awesome interface for microsoft to come up with. obviously those who have trouble with change disagree as many of the pc users hate it.

Once you get past the Metro interface Windows 8 is a bit of an improvement on Windows 7, BUT you have to get past that tiled interface. While they needed to do something new and I applaud MS for doing their own thing, I still agree and think 'what were they thinking'.

Let's solve this by going hex - OS X 0A.0A

or octal - OS X 12.12

Thanks Apple. I've always wanted my Mac to look like iJunk!
