Apple appears to have closed the loophole that let Mac users skip the Siri AI waitlist in the latest macOS 27 Golden Gate beta.

macOS-iOS-27-Siri-App-Feature.jpg

As we covered earlier this month, beta 1 testers can switch on the enhanced version of Siri straight away using a single Terminal command, effectively sidestepping Apple's waitlist.

However, many users who are running the second developer beta of macOS 27, which was released on Monday, are finding that the command does not work for them. Users who enabled Siri AI this way in the original beta are also reporting that they have been kicked back to the waitlist after updating.

Apple has not said anything about the reported change, but one possibility is that the entitlement check that the Terminal command taps into has been switched from a local feature flag to a server-validated state.

Apple could still be building out its server capacity for the redesigned Siri, which is why it is granting access to testers in batches as more comes online. It's likely the reason why the workaround is no longer working for some people.

In any case, if you applied the bypass trick in macOS 27 beta 1 and want to retain access, you probably won't want to update to beta 2.

Some users are suggesting alternative methods involving submitting Apple Intelligence feedback to accelerate approval, but the claims remain anecdotal, and at this point it may just be worth waiting in the queue. Apple appears to be granting access to new beta testers in a matter of days.

Siri AI is now a fully fledged chatbot, and can draw on personal context understanding to search across messages, emails, photos, and more. It can now get things done across apps thanks to even more system-wide app actions.

On Mac, ‌Siri‌ AI is also integrated into Spotlight and available via right-click context menus on any file or window.

Note that Siri AI remains unavailable in the EU on iPhone and iPad, but the limitation does not apply to the Mac.

Have not installed the beta. Don't think the waiting list will lead to long waiting time once the final version is released in September. I remember my waiting time to be around 10 minutes for Apple Intelligence when it was launched in 2024.

I used it, then updated to beta 2, found it was still available, but also got a banner in settings that Siri AI is ready now, when it already was.

This is a different waitlist. Also, it's not clear whether Siri AI will be launched with the release version in September.

Welcome to developer betas. My iPad shows a badge asking me to set up Siri, and when I tap on that, it leads to the Siri config where everything is already set up.

If I choose to create Apple ID after the installation it tells me my Mac was used to create too many Apple Accounts (TF?), but after another 3-4 clicks it suddenly fine. 🤷‍♂️

I did the workaround in beta 1 and no issues with new Siri in beta 2. It’s not bad as a chatbot though. Interestingly it is really good at telling me what it is not. I am not a medical professional, blah blah blah. I am not a financial advisor, blah blah blah. I am not a lawyer blah blah blah. I am not an engineer blah blah blah. It's true of course, but you don't have to start off with that every single time I ask about something like that.

I find it quite pathetic for Apple to even need to have a waitlist to try a beta of something they were drumbeating over the last two years, aka Apple Intelligence.

I mean, people wanting to try it out right now (developers and hard-core Apple enthusiasts), is just a tiny portion of the numbers that will be eligible once iOS 27 is out for everybody this September. And this is discounting lots of people in the EU and China.

If Apple and Google together cannot manage to roll it out in a decent way, why even bother to promise and half-deliver, again?

Please use the Feedback app to make Apple aware of this! <3

isnt it incredible how many "developers" there are out there desperate to access dev beta 1 and 2.

... its almost as if most of the so called developers arent actually developers at all and just YouTubers desperate to make content even though its the earliest and most flaky software in the cycle.

(why they cant wait for public beta is beyond me).

And I don’t know why people go to sports events.

Same here

I just logged onto my machine (M2 MacBook Air) after updating it the other night, and I was pleased to see it was still there and was also getting those ready for Siri notifications even though I already had it

No surprise here, but it sounds like your mileage may vary as to whether or not your Siri AI will stick or not after

I say that as after I updated to beta 2 on my M2 MacBook Air, I found it was still there and still got a ready for Siri notification even though I already had it

I mean, I don't see why this wouldn't happen

Why would they have it available in these developer (and soon public) betas right now if they can't have it ready for the fall alongside the new iPhones?

If I'm not mistaken, even with its blundered launch back in 2024, wasn't Apple Intelligence available to all once iOS 18 came out?

And heck, even when it does come out when iOS 27 releases to the public, it'll still have the beta label on Siri AI as well

I as well get very angry about imperfect previews of unreleased software.

The EU/China issue is political and cannot be discussed here.

Yes, you got a notification though you already had it, please post this a third time 🙂.

This gets enabled on your account with Apple, so if you have it on one devices, you have it on all. Your mileage will not vary on whether you're going to keep it. Congrats, you're in. I didn't have to enable it on an iPad after installing it on a Mac.

If only there were search engines that could help in finding out how this was rolled out in 2024.

Apple Intelligence was rolled out after the public release, and with a waitlist.

It'll have the beta label, but it'll use punctuation, so that's a plus.

Apple Intelligence was rolled out after the public release, and with a waitlist.

Except that back then people stayed on that waitlist between a few minutes for up to 48 hours in most extreme cases, and all of this way before Google stepped in with their might. So I don’t know how this can still be used as an excuse for Apple two years down the line.

The EU/China issue is political and cannot be discussed here.

My point was that not rolling it out in the EU and China significantly reduces the amount of users being able to try it, which should have also shortened the waiting list. The fact that there are still people waiting for the New Siri means that Apple did not manage to upscale their server capacity yet and this is not a good sign.

Never was a “loophole” and never worked correctly. Here’s what it was:

* Both the “old Siri” and “Siri AI” client apps are present on all of the devices.
* The Siri AI waitlist is a server-side waitlist related to provisioning of the updated PCC environment for the user’s Apple ID. Until this provisioning is done, Siri can’t use the new cloud models.
* Using the hack caused a mismatch of the Siri client with the backend. So while it *looked* like the user had Siri AI, what they actually had was the Siri AI client that was unable to access the cloud.

This put the user in a broken state, where the client portion could do some things with the on-device model, but when it went to the cloud, it would fail, causing inaccurate and sometimes broken experiences.

If you’re still on macOS beta 1, best to revert the change, and hope that using the hack didn’t reset your position in line for provisioning.

I am sure everyone will eventually get used to allowing their entire lives on their computer get indexed for AI and anyone else to more easily go through and sift through the entirety of your life on your computer. lol. Gotta admit it feels a little awkward for some reason. That "back of your head" feeling of it. The "should I really"
