With how prices of CRTs are going, I wouldnt be surprised if someone in China saw money in that niche of the market.

I would certainly be interested, if they could reduce the weight and size of it.

Folks, it's really not that complex. At the very last minute, Apple discovered the PCIe Gen 6 just wasn't quite ready to take storage to a whole new level with game-changing speeds for the best-in-class Mac Studio. Therefore, Apple had to pull it, literally as they were announcing the ALL NEW Mac Studio. Believe you me, nobody was more surprised by this than Apple. Fortunately, Apple has discovered the secret and can't wait to include PCIe Gen 6 in an upcoming product. Stay tuned!

A copy writer makes a typo in a press release and marketing material. A one digit typo is easy to miss.

It goes out to the world.

More eyes see the typo.

It gets fixed.

Think of how such a press release, with incorrect info, instantly traverses the internet and is permanently encoded with the false information. For example, YouTube videos sharing that incorrect info... something you can't just easily edit and republish.

PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express) is a high-speed standard interface used to connect internal hardware components like graphics cards and SSDs to a computer's motherboard

It has zero significance and makes no material difference as storage in the Mac Ultra can't saturate PCIe 5.0 and it is not user-replaceable, so the whole thing is moot.

Apple uses their own SSD controllers, so it doesn’t matter what is on the PC market.

It sort of does because Apple SSD speeds are typically slower than current PC standards so to suddenly have SSD's that are twice as fast as current PC standards, well...that would be a first.

That doesn’t make any sense. Cook isn’t the one writing press releases. It’s someone in marketing. It would have been someone in marketing even in Steve’s day.

This clearly shows to me everybody is working in silos and people are so far away from the product, even product managers who supposed to work with marketing/comms department doesn’t know the product either. Cause nobody cares anymore.

That's a pretty big oops to make going from first-in-class with 6.0 speeds specifically useful to AI, to run of the mill 5.0 speeds.

Imagine calling PCIe 5 “run of the mill.”

Mistakes happen. Who cares?

I would be upset if that was an expansion slot as PCIe 6.0 as that would be a selling point for future compatibility and somewhat future proof. But if the SSD is still twice as fast, it doesn't really matter if that was achieved with PCIe 5.0 or 6.0, it's still twice as fast. They didn't bump the speed of Thunderbolt. So this really has no material difference to the function of the machine, so I agree. Who cares.
