Anker is not a fly-by-night operator. They make good products. But I see your point and that can happen on any product. It would also mean except the original manufacturer, third party (or OEM) products will not exist.
Oh indeed, I really like Ankers charging cables, but when it comes to the charging brick itself, I always buy from Apple. This is just me though, and I expect there’s lots of people who buy Anker charging bricks too :)

Yes, you could then say ‘well they’ll blame the cable’ and that’s quite right, but I feel that won’t have as much defence legally.

This new power set up gets several important things right: being able to change the cable means no more throwing away the whole thing when the cable wears out; having both USB-C and magsafe options means we have a backup solution or the chance to use a third party charger...

I've had them fail like that, and took them back to the store, and as long as they're within the warranty period, they simply replace the entire charger without question.

Yeah that's true to be fair they did that for me twice - it's just a shame my "local" Apple store is over an hours drive away.

They gave us back MagSafe. Now, if we complain hard enough, we may get back the flaps too! (or hooks, holders, clips, whatever you called them)

More convenient for you, not for everyone and certainly not as versatile
More convenient for the majority, so Apple added them back. Reviewers will also agree. Your '🤣' won't change facts.

Three USB-C ports are still more than versatile enough. I don't know any user who requires four identical ports at the same time while being on the go, even more if you factor in charging (now covered by magsafe). But certainly enough user who are more than happy that they don't have to worry about a silly adapter to connect their Macbook with 90% of all TVs, screens or projectors around here. For that the HDMI port is indeed more convenient, because it just works. End of story.

Reactions: Pro Apple Silicon
My 2018 MacBook Pro that came with a USB-C cable for charging still remains white and no sign of discolouration. Meanwhile, the past 3 MacBook Pros with their MagSafe cables and their subsequent replacement all turned yellow, and started ripping apart with the jacket coming apart. Couldn't risk fire, so of course you replace it.

I hope these newer MagSafe cables are better.
They look thicker and well-braided for greater power delivery. So here's hoping they hold up better as well.

Nah. You had 5 years to make that case. It didn't pan out. You just don't need 4 TB ports. 3 is more than enough when it means also adding other convenient ports.
Plus, Thunderbolt now has hub capabilities, when it launched it was daisy chain only. So you can add Thunderbolt ports through a Thunderbolt hub. Though the bandwidth gets split up, but the older MacBooks shared bandwidth between the two ports on each side anyway. New one apparently has a controller on each port so bandwidth is actually up in total (3x 40 Gbps vs 2x 40 Gbps).

Exactly. There are simply MORE options now for everyone. More convenient ports, AND more Thunderbolt controllers making each of the 3 Thunderbolt ports more capable. You could easily split all 3 Thunderbolt ports into 6 Thunderbolt ports via hubs (if you needed to) and get the same speed as previous Thunderbolt ports (20 Gbps) on Macs.

I'm not suggesting I have or even would break it, but it feels unsteady, and consistently drops connection with even slightest lateral movement, to where I have to wiggle it slightly to get it re-connected.
You probably haven’t pushed it in all the way. There’s a point where it stops, then if you keep pushing it will click in. If you do it that there should be no play at all
Wish Magsafe was just a tiny adapter you can plug on top of a USB-C port so that it can transmit power and data just like the USB-C? Someone may trip over it and that Magsafe plug will take off the whole USB-C cable? It’s a win-win.

Also you can still make it work in case you forget to bring the plug? Just get a regular C to C cable, along with a GaN power brick and you’re good to go.
you can buy such adapters on Amazon. My Android friends love them.

Apple takes all the ports away - people complain.

Apple adds all the ports back - people complain.

I swear the designers at Cupertino must just sit back and laugh when they design this stuff about how no matter what they do some people will hate it.

It's definitely pushed in all the way. It used to be quite snug, but has loosened quite a bit (admittedly after being tripped over several times).

again, you take YOUR opinion and assume you speak for everyone.
Apparently you cannot accept that there are other use cases and viewpoints, so I'm done.

And neither can you, apparently. 3 TB ports + additional ports vs. 4 TB ports. Which one is more reasonable? Come on.

If you look after your charger it holds up just fine. The cable management isn't the reason why MBA charger cables would break.
I never said cable management was the reason charger cables would break. I suggested it could encourage users to not look after their chargers appropriately. When used appropriately, the cable clips are great; it's just my anecdotal experience seeing countless students tightly wrapping their cables around the clips that makes me think it was a good decision to remove them. Of course, ymmv

Reactions: Mac Fly (film)
I wish they had gone back to the original MagSafe design where the plug was flush with the side of the computer instead of at a right angle. When I had an Air with the right angle plug, it put stress on the cord, and the insulation ended up cracking.

Magsafe is great, but I'll stick with USB-C. It's nice Apple gave us a choice, though. I'll probably pick up some aftermarket usbc->MagSafe 3 cables...or just get the inevitable MagSafe 2->3 converter. My house is full of 1->2 converters, so one more layer of adapters!
The conclusion will be that people actually use usb c and not the obsolete magsafe port and it will be removed again

As if people wouldn’t prefer an additional usb c port then having a useless charging port. I think its a stupid decision

However, would love to see a magsafe 2 > 3 converter. I would ditch the standard charger immediately and switch to a newer usb c one for my older macbook pro
