White On Opening Day or Mid-August Are The Two Rumors

1. When will it be available in White?

2. Is laser engraving an option/available?

3. On a less serious note, will it blend?

:)
1. Opening day at a few Apple Stores OR Mid-August.

2. No.

3. Yes.

Thanks for putting it into perspective. We feel so much better now.

I have the means to purchase an expensive phone because of my career, which is greatly assisted (nearly to the point of necessity) by having that expensive phone. Not to mention the ability to communicate via video with our well-fed families who may not currently live near us.

Hmm...newbie joins in June and makes fun of people who are in terrible situations with their lives. Goes to show you have no grasp on reality nor do you think about others around you. Cheers to you and I hope you never end up being in an unfortunate situation because that would be karma coming back to you.

Well, those of you who actually got a pre-order in are extremely lucky. It's like winning the lottery. I tried for hours and hours, yesterday, and I never got past all the problems of not getting the order through, so I guess I'll have to do the camp out thing. Can't say I didn't try. This was just circumstance that I wasn't able to pre-order no matter how many times I tried.

What's a Pre-Order? An order before you order?

Ah, marketing....

It likely came about because of Back-orders. If a back-order is an order you place after something has gone out of stock, a pre-order is an order you place for an item not yet in stock.

Seems logical, rather than marketing. Lots of industries have pre-orders. Hell, I pre-ordered a car!

PreOrder vs Reserve Question

Preamble: Yesterday morning I was able to Reserve a iPhone 4 for pickup at a local Apple store. In the evening, I banged their servers again and got through to purchase with a delivery date of June 24 stated on the final purchase page. The email confirmation I got the next morning indicated shipping by July 2.

The question: Do you think it will be shipped July 2 (I'm guessing yes)? Would you think it possible to wade through the hordes on June 24 to pick up the Reserved phone and return the one being shipped July 2? I have only one upgrade price available through AT$T and won't want two phones.
Thanks for thoughts...

I am curious why you waited 3 years. Is there a particular feature you were waiting for? I stopped using mine after 1st generation because of AT&T's BS, but many others don't really seem to care how much AT&T sucks. Unfortunately, they really aren't going to care until it hurts their bottom line. So I anxiously await the day when Apple finally breaks its exclusivity with AT&T, and I get to watch the stock price plummet while I laugh hysterically.:)

I never have issues with ATT. But I agree they need to start selling with other cell phone companies in the US. That way we could have brought down all US providers, not just one yesterday :)

Now that your phone number has an order assigned to it, and guessing you would not be alb to buy on in an Apple Store?

Have been in contract with Verizon up until last Sept. Renewed with Verizon while iPhone was a few months old, back when the iPhone was around $600, if I recall correctly. Either way, I didn't have the money for the plan.

Another member here just posted last night that a Best Buy employee told him they wouldn't have White until Mid-August.

From forums.bestbuy.com:
Will Best Buy® take pre-orders for the white iPhone 4?
No. We have stopped taking pre-orders for the iPhone 4 16GB White (SKU: 1039203) and iPhone 4 32GB White (SKU: 1049294). We stopped taking pre-orders for the white iPhone 4 after Apple stopped taking pre-orders to prevent customer disappointment if inventory is not available.

What if I already pre-ordered a white iPhone 4 at Best Buy®?
If you have already pre-ordered either the iPhone 4 16GB White (SKU: 1039203) or iPhone 4 32GB White (SKU: 1049294), then your pre-order is still valid. You will receive your phone once the store receives the product from Apple. This may or may not be on launch day, June 24th, 2010.

Will Best Buy® receive inventory of the white iPhone 4 on launch day, June 24th, 2010?
This is not guaranteed and is completely dependent on when the product is received from Apple. While we have ordered all versions of the iPhone 4 from Apple, we can only sell what we are provided with.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I wanted the black one myself, and I got my order through Apple's online store. The white iPhone is for my friend. I don't need to get it launch day, and I'll be satisfied if Best Buy honors my preorder within a couple weeks.

Sorry, I've been around these forums much longer, but I wanted to change my username. Sticks and stones my friend! You are the one who came on here whining about whiners, lest we forget.

I tried for 10 hrs straight yesterday, non stop (I took some brakes for food, and to take a walk). I know that may sound crazy, but time does fly when you keep trying to get something you want. Any way, around 5:00pm yesterday the system became more responsive, by 6:30pm I had my order paid for and scheduled to ship to my apartment on the 24th.

For those who ordered through AT&T but didn't receive a confirmation email and can't find their order when they check the status, DON'T assume that your order went through. I ordered through AT&T first and because I didn't get an email and my order couldn't be pulled up in the system, I went ahead and ordered through the Apple Store too. Got my emails from Apple a few hours later with a ship date of June 24th!! This morning, I FINALLY received an email from AT&T saying my order was cancelled because they couldn't verify information. I wouldn't be receiving a phone on the 24th had I assumed that AT&T had my order!

Well, some of us has never had an issue with AT&T. I live in WV and work in Tyson's Corner. My bars have been pretty full the entire drive both ways and I have never had a dropped call.

That's fine and good, but 13% of us are first-time iPhone owners. And its really frustrating after waiting 3 years, now we must wait even longer.

I am also frustrated that AT&T has "temporarily suspended" pre-orders, and Apple won't accept my money to order online either, for some reason.

You can show up at the Applestore early on launch day, and wait in line. Just like us early adopters did.
I was in line for the first gen for 10 hours, and paid $600 for a phone that had issues at the beginning....
You will only have to pay $200 and the phone is far superior....

I started trying at 12am on the 15th as soon as pre-orders started, finally got through att around 5am but never got email confirmation or cc charge, was on and off with att on ph all day but couldn't find order and didn't think it had gone through,so around 7pm pacific time i ordered through apple it went through and got confirmation email 8 hrs later,it says ships-Delivers Jun 24 does that mean i will get it on Jun 24th? Then this morn i receive an email from att saying order could not be processed cause they couldn't charge card, could i please call with updated cc info by Jun 23rd or will automatically cancel,i already spent the money with apple that's why it wont go through, they told me yesterday they couldn't find it and it didn't go through....Go figure.Anyways before i cancel it,i want to make sure since it says on apple order Ships-Delivers Jun 24th does that mean i get it on the 24th? if not i will go with att since i placed order with att at 5am on 15th and those placed with att before 4:30pm are guaranteed to arrive by 24th

I won't be surprised if they sell 8 million by the end of calendar year, world wide.

Guys, estimates are in the millions. And for the year they're in the tens of millions of iPhones. People think this is what'll happen, but the stock price is definitely not reflecting those numbers as of right now.. I've been buying AAPL for the last couple of weeks lol.

I wanted to pre-order instead of reserve but Apple's site wouldn't let me through to that step all day...whatever...I'll be getting to the Apple Store at like 4:30 or 5 in the morning

So, just to make it clear, if I have an iPhone reserved at my local Apple store, do I still need to get at the store early in the morning or can I wait until later in the day to pick it up

Perhaps but I wouldn't risk it. I know with the WiFi iPad launch, if you weren't there by 3PM [I think] your reserved got sold to those waiting in line without pre-orders [first come, first serve].

I got my reserve at a Apple store in San Antonio. I will see you fine folks in line!

Its good to be one of the first.

My 3 phones I ordered for my family all show processing on AT&T's order status site. I still don't know if I will actually get any of the phones on the 24th. Hopefully will know early next week.

Anybody that simply "reserved" an iPhone for pickup at the Apple Store either using Apple.com or the new Apple Store app is not guaranteed to walk out with a phone on launch day. I worked at an Apple Store for 2 iPhone launches and the reserve system simply gives you a one up on people who just walk in without a reservation.

If you look at the email you should have received after you made your reservation, you will notice that the fine print at the bottom says "Pre-authorization does not guarantee iPhone availability at an Apple Retail Store. iPhone is sold on a first-come, first-served basis."

So there you have it people, if you want an iPhone 4 on June 24, prepare to camp out overnight or at least arrive a few hours before the store opens at 7 am. Even if you have a reservation.

This is stupid scare-mongering. You are not guaranteed to receive one if you preordered, either. The e-mail contains the same "no guarantee," first-come, first-served" language as the reservation guarantee.

I should note that in body of the reservation language, it clearly states that the phone will be there and will be held all day. It won't be sold to anyone else who gets there first on that day.

The fine print is to protect Apple if the truck carrying the phones to the store crashes, or something similar. Just the same as if the FedEx delivery truck crashed while trying to deliver your preorder.
