Did it ever occur to anyone to try going to their local AT&T store or apple store? I KNEW ordering online was going to be a hassle since its more of a convience for people so I went to my local store and was out in 20 minutes and will get my phone the 24th.

With everyone trying to pre order a phone on both websites its no wonder the site went crazy. I know that both AT&T and Apple should explain but sorry not going to happen. As much as people are blaming AT&T for this problem Apple is just as much at fault. THEY KNEW how well this phone was going to sell.

So if you still want a phone I suggest you camp out at your local AT&T or Apple store on launch day and hope you score one. Otherwise just be patient you will get one soon enough

I Called The Annapolis Store And She Said She Had No Clue If White Would Be There

The Apple store in the Annapolis, MD said they expected to have them launch day on a first come first serve basis.
I Called The Annapolis Store And She Said She Had No Clue If White Would Be There. Same story at Palo Alto.

Looks like someone was just guessing out loud to you Dave. :(

well, think carefully... server down, sold out pre-order....

any of that does any damage to Apple?

Now, think more carefully...

any of that .. does it create more sensation, media coverage????

Think more....
at whose expense, does Apple do that?

The answer is:
There is NO damage if they do it on purpose.

There is all the advantage to do this on purpose.

What would you do if you are Apple's executive????

I ordered 2 yesterday.
1 through AT&T at 12:40 pm CST that says In Progress
1 through Apple at 3:45 pm CST that still shows the Delivered by June 24th

I guess we'll soon find out who is the better company when it comes to shipments. My vote goes to Apple

July 19th...

Just pre-ordered mine (couldn't get it done yesterday) and my ship date is now July 14 with estimated delivery between the 15-19th. Not complaining, just reporting.

WARNING: RUMOR

Just got off the phone with AT&T, she said the fact that she can see my order in her computer is a good sign, probably because i ordered one hour after preorders went live from the AT&T site. And she said that not getting confirmation emails isnt something to worry about

She said there is a rumor going around that anyone who ordered off of AT&T after 10AM PST would probably not be garunteed a June 24th Delivery date.(their system being based on first come first serve for preorders) Again, this is a rumor from an AT&T rep.

It occurred to me, but it also occurred to me that skipping work to go buy a phone might be a bad idea...:D

OMG, so many people posting that they reserved one for delivery AND for in-store pickup just in case. Some people even reserved at BB as well. This is ridiculous. While trying to cover your bases, some people here are tying up 2-3 phones each. It's no wonder there are problems. Oh sure those phones not picked up launch day will go on sale the next day, but that is no comfort to those trying really hard to preorder because they don't want to spend hours in line and still risking not getting an iPhone. Thanks guys.

Radio Shack May Have WHITE On Launch - All Their Online Orders Failed

They had WHITE SKUs to order them but their online efforts failed chain-wide. So it's down to allocation among all 7,000 stores that may include some white ones. I'm wondering if Radio Shack didn't buy all the White ones Apple had to sell first. ;)

Meanwhile Best Buy has closed all Pre-Orders effective immediately. :(

Still nobody will tell me if the reservations we made yesterday are still valid, since you can no longer pull them up on the Apple site, and Apple isn't answering the phone...

You can show up at the Applestore early on launch day, and wait in line. Just like us early adopters did.
I was in line for the first gen for 10 hours, and paid $600 for a phone that had issues at the beginning....
You will only have to pay $200 and the phone is far superior....

Yeah maybe if it wasn't a weekday and I didn't have a job to show up to at a 9AM.

I got through to Apple by constantly hitting 0 for operator when I called to ask about whether my name was on a reservation list. He directed me to call the store I reserved at after checking that I got an email confirmation for the reservation.

I called the store. The first thing she asked me was did I get an email. I said yes, I just want to make sure my name is on the list. She checked for me and it was and said the phone would be on hold for me all day. I still plan to get there super early before opening to make sure I get one in case.

So for anyone unsure about whether they reserved a phone, call the store you reserved it at. They have a list of names they can check.

I was one of many that attempted to order a phone all day. My first try was at 4:30am and I continued to attempt to preorder one throughout the day. Finally around 6pm PST I got past the AT&T verification, entered all my credit card info and hit the "place order" button where I was thn taken to the frustrating "oops" page. I attempted this about 4 times before finally just giving up after I saw the shipment date get pushed back.

This ultimately angered me more than I ever thought I'd be with apple. I was convinced I wouldn't be buying another iPhone.

To my surprise, the next morning I received a confirmation email stating that I would have an iPhone 4 delivered on June 24th, so I guess at least one of my orders went through.

Now I'm just hoping my card doesn't get charged 3 or 4 times.

Just camp out early the next day instead for the reserved phones that didn't get picked up :D

Just pre-ordered mine on apple today (after selling my 3GS on ebay for $300). Shows: ships by July 14th...

Is anyone thinking of going to Walmart to get an iPhone4 on the launch day?

They could've made it a lot more successful if instead of getting on and trying to put a whole order in with everyone at once, there's just one box, "email address", then click preorder.

When **** settles down a bit they have a number for everyone, then they email the ones who made it in time to follow a link, where they add their details and deposit/contract.
