To everyone who is having a crapfit over not being able to pre-order this thing:

You do know that your current iPhone still works, right?

But everyone wants it on day one. Its a status thing...

My current 3G is having all kinds of problems, (constant restores required) so I really need a new phone ... I finally got through last night and so far, it looks good for a June 24th delivery.

I too would love to know how many phones are being pre-ordered and how many people were trying to pre-order!

Same exact boat. 3G is showing its age (it is rough around the edges, replaced digitizer/LCD, get ton of dust under the screen so have to constantly take it apart to clean). Did manage to finally order one last night (around 7est) with a June 24th ship date.

I ordered on the Apple store last night. It said It would ship Jul 2, deliver Jul 6th or so.

I checked my status this morning and the confirmation email says

Ships: Delivers on June 24th
Delivers: Jul 6 - 8

Looks like they moved some priorities around as I take this to mean it is being delivered on launch day.

I ordered for both of my lines yesterday at 1:30 EST, but we have to order through AT&T Premiere. So far the order just says "processing." I wish there was a way to get better order status for Premiere.

I had many problems with Apple's online ordering. I read on USA Today app on my iphone that everyone was having problems except those using the app for the iphone I think called "Apple Store." I downloaded it around 3:30pm EST and one two three, I got my iphone ordered for in store pick up. Got an email conformation and it shows up in the app. Way cool.

Just glad I got mine done. Would be sad that every year I got the new iPhone on the release date that I wouldn't be able to do that this year. I'll be there at 5:30 am...maybe earlier if I can't sleep!

Sorry to those who had problems, I would say go early and stand in line.

BTW, I bought my iPad when it first came out at Best Buy. Was there at 6:00 am. I was the 2nd in line. Got one that day. Maybe Best Buy will be the place for folks that didn't get to reserve one.

Is your in-store pick up a reserve or did you give cc info and made payment through the app?

So i tired to pre-order one today and only update available are the 3gs's. so i logged out and tried from the att homepage and it said "Pre-orders for iPhone temporarily suspended". this sucks. im sad. :( :(

I feel lucky that I got my pre order in. However I do feel like a depraved Apple zealot for spending a good hour + of my life battling Apple's website and ATT servers. I would say it was about the 37-42nd attempt that finally got lucky with a completed order and confirmation email with delivery on June 24th. I wonder though... if I got my order through only because I choose the 16Gb version? The first 30 or so attempts was for the 32Gb version but after some deliberation I realized that I could live with the 16Gb version and would be better off saving the $100 for the next ipad or iphone.

I also ordered one of those tricked out bumpers. Yeah they do seem overpriced at $29 but then again I spent $50 for my iskin 3G case and had to go for over a month with a naked phone before receiving the case. Still for some reason the bumper does not ship until a week after I receive my iPhone 4. Anyone else get suckered into buying one of those bumpers? I got the white one but am having second thoughts now. I like the look of the black bumper on white iphone but I don't think white bumper on black would look as good.

2) Its a cell phone. You don't deserve it, you don't need it, you're not guaranteed it. Apple and ATT owe you nothing other than the phone you already own. If you really want one, you'll get it eventually. I keep seeing words on here like "upset" and I'm going.. really? Its a phone. They're going to make a lot of them. I have 10,000 other things to worry or be upset about in a day, not having the new iphone on day one does not need to be on that list. I'll pick one up, when its convenient. You should breathe and do the same.

So one of the 10,000 things you have to worry about in a day is people who are disappointed that they can't order a new gadget? So much so that you need to post about it? Why do you care?

Whew...my ship date says the 24th.

I got a little nervous after some of the posts stating that the date had changed. I couldn't get my order to go through until around 4:30 (mountain time). Got my confirmation email late last night and it has a ship date of the 24th!

This really sucks, considering it was impossible for me to get the website to work correctly yesterday or today (I was finally able to preorder this morning through the Apple Store App, for early July delivery). I can't believe Apple bungled another launch.

I believe Apple has lost its way.

Reality check people:
1) Apple loves this press. Of course the servers were going to crash, thats the new benchmark of success. Of course they sold out within the day. It's a great news story.

Ummm. So, good for you? I don't care how you feel about not wanting the phone. Does that help?

They can only do so much planning. Sometimes things happen. They got way more volume then they thought they would get.

To everyone who is having a crapfit over not being able to pre-order this thing:

That's fine and good, but 13% of us are first-time iPhone owners. And its really frustrating after waiting 3 years, now we must wait even longer.

I am also frustrated that AT&T has "temporarily suspended" pre-orders, and Apple won't accept my money to order online either, for some reason.

Apparently one of the 10,000 other things you have to worry about is how upset people get on a forum.:D

But everyone wants it on day one. Its a status thing...

if you believe that, then i suggest seeking help. anyone who wants one for "status" purposes can go check themselves into the nut house, because thats just absurd.

most of us just love the iPhone, think everything about it is really cool and fun, and the sooner we can get our hands on the latest and great edition of that fun, the better. it's really quite that simple.

Not to mention, this time around, there will be an extraordinary amount of both BRAND new iPhone users, as well as iPhone upgrades from the original, or 2008 3G model.

Best Buy Just Told Us Mid August For White

Sorry for the double post but have you tried calling Best Buys? They are the ones that appear to be accepting preorders for the white ones. The store I visited expected to have 40 iPhones for preorder total, 10 of each type. When I went in at 6:30 PM less than half had sold out. I know Best Buy doesn't have a great reputation, but it beats camping outside for two days if you want the white one.
Another member here just posted last night that a Best Buy employee told him they wouldn't have White until Mid-August.

still sounds as being delivered on Jul 6 - 8th

Lots of whining in this thread. Be happy you even have the means to purchase an expensive phone while others cannot afford to feed their families. Get over yourselves. It's not like the iPhone 4 is a limited edition phone. Apple will make millions and you will get yours at some point.

Doubtful. Items abandoned in carts do not = sales. After a set period unsold items in carts are returned to inventory.
Agreed, but apparently the timeout was longer than the time I last made it to an "add to cart" (say 10 am EDT) and the time I finally made it all the way to see a populated cart (~7 PM EDT) and placed the order. This is an unusually long amount of time for something to sit in a cart unsold, plus the fact that I got two different delivery dates in the cart is very unusual.

My point is that the system may just have been too busy due to people trying to place new (ultimately incomplete) orders throughout the day that the return to inventory calls may not have been processed as readily as they might otherwise have been if the system wasn't already melting down.

FWIW even once the system was "working" it still took them 3 hours to get the confirmation e-mail to me.

3 questions...if anyone knows..

1. When will it be available in White?

2. Is laser engraving an option/available?

3. On a less serious note, will it blend?

:)

Thanks for putting it into perspective. We feel so much better now.

I have the means to purchase an expensive phone because of my career, which is greatly assisted (nearly to the point of necessity) by having that expensive phone. Not to mention the ability to communicate via video with our well-fed families who may not currently live near us.

I am curious why you waited 3 years. Is there a particular feature you were waiting for? I stopped using mine after 1st generation because of AT&T's BS, but many others don't really seem to care how much AT&T sucks. Unfortunately, they really aren't going to care until it hurts their bottom line. So I anxiously await the day when Apple finally breaks its exclusivity with AT&T, and I get to watch the stock price plummet while I laugh hysterically.:)

If you "reserved" an iPhone be warned...

I reserved it at an apple store with the apple store app around noon, and received a conformation email about it. It'll still be there on the 24th, right?

Anybody that simply "reserved" an iPhone for pickup at the Apple Store either using Apple.com or the new Apple Store app is not guaranteed to walk out with a phone on launch day. I worked at an Apple Store for 2 iPhone launches and the reserve system simply gives you a one up on people who just walk in without a reservation.

If you look at the email you should have received after you made your reservation, you will notice that the fine print at the bottom says "Pre-authorization does not guarantee iPhone availability at an Apple Retail Store. iPhone is sold on a first-come, first-served basis."

So there you have it people, if you want an iPhone 4 on June 24, prepare to camp out overnight or at least arrive a few hours before the store opens at 7 am. Even if you have a reservation.
