I’m keeping my subscription and am glad for the free extension. I love a lot of the shows so far and the service is extremely cheap.

This is an interesting development. Probably not a good sign. At least short term. We'll see how this all plays out longer term. But I think Apple TV+ is Apple playing outside of their skillset and against competitors who know the business better. Further it also feels a lot like "mission creep". I'm not optimistic for Apple on this one.

Got the letter saying I was extended to Feb 2021... but the original Dec 17 expiration still shows in my subscriptions...

I wonder if this has anything to do with Apple One? It may be delayed due to Fitness+ and so they do not want people waiting for Apple One to have a lapse in service.

I certainly would have canceled next week in preparation to re-subscribe via Apple One.

That's my thought, too. Thought I just switched from "Annual" to "Monthly" when they announced Apple One. I mean, I was going to pay anyway because I like a few of the shows, plus, the "$4.99/month" saves me $9.99 on CBS All Access and Showtime.

They do. I've found it when I canceled my Apple TV+ trial. I presumed the actual cancelation will take place at the end of the 12 month period, but it was canceled right away.
Yeah, it even warns you that will happen. I usually go right in and cancel free trials the minute I sign up for them. This one had a warning.

I signed up for the trial earlier this year when Apple offers it on my 7 Plus. Never even watch a single video from the service. This is a good reminder for me to set up a future reminder to cancel it before it renews.

I bet they've aligned the cancellation date with the premiere of SEE or some other big budget series. First episode free, Pay for the rest. Hook, line, and sinker.

If it was profitable then they wouldn't need to extend the freebie now would they.
What a ridiculous theory. Firstly how could it be profitable since every customer got AppleTV Plus for free that purchased a new Apple product? SMH. The app was put out right around the same time the 16" and iPhone 11 came out so most people that bought those products subscribed to it got it for free. They're only extending it up to 3 months and you do remember Apple had to stop production due to COVID so that hampered them from producing new content? So AppleTV Plus users didn't get much content to enjoy. The extension is a goodwill gesture for their customers. 3 extra months free is not going to help increase sales. If you believe otherwise then you need to take business 101.

Mine renews December 25, the day after my GF gave me an Apple TV. I wouldn't mind a three-month extension, but I'll continue with it regardless, as I've enjoyed the programming, and it's only $4.99 a month...the price of a cup of coffee.

The trouble with “it’s only $4.99 a month” is that all these little subscriptions add up. Your phone plan subscription is A; your 1Password subscript is B; your iCloud storage subscription is C; your Adobe Creative Cloud subscription is D; your Apple Arcade subscription is E, your HBO subscription is F; your Starzplay subscription is G... It goes on and on. There must be plenty of people who look at their bank statement each month and wonder what the hell happened to the world.

As for myself, I will only subscribe to something if it is really good, or fairly essential. I subscribe to iCloud storage for the convenience of having tons of photos everywhere And I subscribe once a year to Ordnance Survey maps (because they are just so awesomely good). That‘s it! I avoided the 1Password tax by getting the standalone version, and I let the wife subscribe to Netflix & Amazon Prime, LOL. Her Amazon deal is pretty good, I have to say, because she gets a ton of stuff delivered from them quickly & cheaply in any case.

Net result: my bank balance is happier than it would otherwise be.

My personal opinion about Apple TV+ is I don’t see it standing up against Netflix or Amazon, unless they carry on making it free forever. The Apple Original stuff really isn’t that good IMHO.

U.K. user here. My trial is expiring at the end of November. So far, no extension email but I’m not making much use of the service anyway. I’ll be cancelling before it becomes chargeable either way

The business model of most companies is now "Get them subscribed to services - which they will forget about but keep paying"

Apple is definitely dreading the day they have to report subscriber numbers to Wall Street after the free trials end! Who in the world is going to pay $4.99 a month for this clunker of a service? Tiny amount of bland content...what are they thinking? Apple should stick to consumer electronics devices and leave entertainment content to Hollywood (or Netflix).
