What really gets me going is this whole "Oh, well iOS will only have new Emojis I guess. Oh, new watch bands, who cares?" sentiment.

Well, the average consumer does care about those things. And if you are a developer you should be freaking interested in an OS or Ecosystem being compelling to your average Joe and Jane. Yes, we developers want fancy new shiny things but most users out there simply do not care. Apple has admitted once that releases with new emojis had an higher adaptation rate than other releases. And developers should care about that, because at the end of the day you want your app on as many phones as possible.

And if the iPhone 8 rumors are true, we could be facing a big change in iOS this year. I mean in terms of AR, AI and VR there could be a lot going on. And the lack in leaks does not indicate that there is no major change, or else there would have been leaks that there are no big changes coming. And I don't think Apple is missing out this year. With Android O being real dull (imagine Apple doing the same thing....) they could really get ahead again.

Anyone else finding WWDC less exciting and more predicable every year? Although I guess that just may be Apple as a company in general.

2014 WWDC with iOS 8 was the last exciting conference I remember, due to the announcement of Swift.
I'm not sure I'll be able to watch it live this year, but honestly I don't care. I'm a developer so when available on the WWDC app I'll watch the keynote, platform state of the union and many of the videos since they're relevant to my job, but the only event I really want to follow live is the one they hold in September with new products.

Ready for watching the keynote to hear these words mixed in with OS updates, Apple Campus announcements, and product annoucements: ImPORTant, Unbelievable, Remarkable, Incredible, Fantastic, Easy, Beautiful, Nice, Great, Gorgeous, Stunning, Thin, Amazing, Awesome, and hopefully Can't Innovate Anymore My Ass.

Don't forget "magical" and "courage." ;)

Apple is suffering from extreme senioritus like the old Steve Ballmer era Microsoft. They need to replace Cook, Schiller, Cue, etc. with fresh new talent and find someone enthusiastic, tech savvy with public speaking skill to kick off WWDC instead of the drunken incoherent slur of Cook.

I dreamt for a day when everyone will be sitting using their laptops. :) Who knew it would be an Apple event.

Judging by the style of invite picture looks like we'll be getting more emojis.
The characters have all different colors of shirts on that must mean more watch band colors.

Don't see any of the characters using a desktop so no new iMac, Mac Pro, or Mac mini.

Some of the characters are reading a book.. Designed by Apple book version 2 confirmed?

It's kinda the shape of the new building... I'm sure they will spend a lot of time talking about that.

I'm not gonna lie about it: I have a strong feeling this years WWDC is gonna be... less exciting. Could be wrong of course. But I'm getting tired of Cook saying there's a lot in the pipeline, and then eventually getting (almost) nothing. However, I'm always happy with new updates. Especially since I've got one of each category now. So I'll be able to update my iPhone, MacBook Pro, Apple Watch and Apple TV later this year. Heck, I'll be using the betas as I've been doing since iOS 5 (with exception for Apple Watch, don't wanna take the risk to actually brick it and not be able to restore it).

My wishes!
My wishes for iOS 11:
- Night Mode (yes, I still think it could happen)
- Ability to lock individual apps with password/Touch ID
- More Siri integration features for developers (wouldn't it be great to say "Hey Siri, search on Netflix to House of Cards" for example? Or "Hey Siri, search on IMDb to The 100"?)
- Continuity for Music app (start playing music on iPhone, continue on Mac or Apple TV)
- Apple Pay support in the Netherlands (!)
- News app support in the Netherlands
- QuickType suggestions in Dutch

Nice-to-haves for iOS 11:
- Finder (although I'm satisfied with iCloud Drive so far)
- Basic Terminal (e.g. to simply test network 'on the go')
- Default apps (would still be using current default web browser and mail e.g., but would love to 'replace' Messages with WhatsApp)
- Multi-user support (even on iPhone)
- Clear cache (I've got enough storage on my device, but it'd be a nice touch if I'd be able to clear cache)
- Improvements to Siri in Dutch (you have no idea how many times I have to repeat myself or correct Siri)

My wishes for macOS 10.13:
- 'Hey Siri' (I now use a key shortcut to activate, pretty annoying if you're walking around for example)
- Better performance (I hate to say it, but Windows 10 runs far better than macOS does, because it doesn't have billions of animations)
- Fix Safari! (it becomes utterly slow after an amount of time, it should be clearing itself to prevent such thing from happening, just like iOS does!)

My wishes for watchOS 4:
- Keep battery life as it is now!
- Same goes for performance!

My wishes for tvOS 11:
- Auto Unlock with Apple Watch/iPhone (Touch ID)
- TV app in more countries, including Netherlands
- More categories in the Dutch App Store

Actually we are overdue not only for ipad, but in a lot of hardware too.

For this keynote I expect only software announcement, but I think that they need to say something about the mac lineup specially the desktops. If they don't, well i expect an iMac release, by the time Apple releases officially the new MacOS, in September or October. We probably might hear about a Mac Mini, but my bet the Mac Mini won't be release this year.

Here is the thing, I starting to see a lot of delays in lot of hardwares and all are pointing for releases in September to November, this year. If there is no release of hardware at WWDC, you will have: the Macbook Pro refresh, the iMac refresh, new IMac Pro, mac Mini (unlikely, probably release in first quarter of 2018), Ipad Pros and Iphones (rumours point for 3 different models).

That is a lot of stuff.

Yet, I hope that i'm wrong on my assessment.

Yeah, that strikes me as too much stuff for September. I'm looking at getting the next iMac and the next iPad Pro. What Apple sells right now is fine for my needs, but I don't like to buy stale stuff, so I will wait. If everything comes out in September, I'm looking at adding in the iPhone.

To me Apple lost (maybe together with Steve RIP) the ability to think about features in SW or HW that I really look forward to use. Instead they drop more and more stuff that I find really useful - Aperture, Airport Wifi base stations, Cinema Displays, Bento, iWeb just to name a few with Aperture being the most important app to me. I would understand if Apple would be a tiny company that needs to focus on just the phone but they do have billions in the bank...

Nope. It's actually my favorite keynote because software is exciting. More than hardware in many ways.

new watchbands, new mac OS X, probably a one more thing siri speaker and new ios.

not bad but still not what I want. the days of me waiting for apple to deliver something i want to buy are over.

time to move to where the competition is. apple does not seem to be changing direction anytime soon.

4K Apple TV, Kaby Lake MacBook would be the most I would expect out of hardware.

Apple really needs to blow people away with its iOS for iPad to jump-start sales.

With phone hardware maturing, this is going to be really important for the iPhone also.

I use Filemaker Go and find it magical. Is Bento that much better?

I never used Filemaker Go. Searching google as we speak.

Update: It is something very different. Bento was a standalone DB product. Go seems to be used in conjunction with Filemaker. Also Bento was not expensive and did the job. One day I will move the DB to Numbers.

This is off-topic... have anyone noticed that Apple embed Apple Maps on WWDC page: https://developer.apple.com/wwdc/more/

This is the first I've seen. I know there is no option to embed but who knows if they'll announce at WWDC... I think they'll announce a new OS name change for CarPay = carOS. That's my wild prediction.

Predictable are the ‘hardware’ rumors, the wishful thinking that comes at any Apple event :)

You say it right: e.g. a new Pencil would be a bonus, WWDC is about software.
The wishful thinking is because several products are overdue for updates: the iMac and iPad Pros. So the possibility is slightly higher than normal. Then there is the Apple Drone someone mentioned...
