they said appple had an update ad to update my 3g phone. Anyone else get this message? It doesn't say it fixes 3g just says to update the phone
i got it and I am 2.0.2. they are probably just sending it out for the people who dont keep up with the updates and dont realize there is a potential fix for their phone.
Did you read the thread? They're sending to everyone. I have 2.0.2, and I got the message.I wonder if they are tracking who has what firmware and sending only to certain groups? I disabled Apple's kill switch for 3rd party apps on my phone. I love Apple but no way do I want them to have any control over my phone whatsoever.
I just received a free text message from AT&T and Apple saying that the software update that was released last Monday was suppose to help the 3G connection. Well, with my experience since upgrading to 2.0.2 my connection has basically dropped to 2 bars or less while on 3G in a 3G-enabled city (Dallas, TX) where I am suppose to have excellent connection. Since Monday I have had about 5 or 6 dropped calls, and it takes me about 30 minutes to receive text messages (I tested this out by having one of my friends send me a text message).
I am an Apple supporter. They have amazing computers and iPods and I have recommended them to my friends when they asked me if they should get a PC or a Mac. I only wish the iPhone 3G could be just as reliable.
Currently I have switched my 3G connection to off so I am on EDGE, and I have 5 bars where ever I am.
The message from AT&T and Apple said: "A free message from Apple and AT&T: An important software update for iPhone 3G has been available on iTunes since this past Monday. To get it, simply synch your iPhone 3G with iTunes and click the "Check For Update" button.
Has anyone had a better connection with 3G since downloading this update?
Thanks.
We're not sure if that advice reached Apple, but AT&T and Apple did indeed start sending out text messages to its users asking them to upgrade to the new iPhone 2.0.2 firmware.Word-of-mouth is often how dismal news spreads. But when you have more than 1 million people to whom the information needs to get to, worth-of-mouth doesnt cut it. Web message boards dont cut it. Not commenting doesnt cut it.
And if the news involves iPhone problems, Apple and AT&T, wouldnt a text message from those two companies to the million-plus users of the new iPhone make sense? Its certainly easy enough for them to do. Its not like they dont know customers phone numbers.
Apple has said that this update should address some of the 3G connectivity problems that have been reported."A free message from Apple and AT&T: An important software update for iPhone 3G has been available on iTunes since this past Monday. Nope. I've had 2.0.2 since an hour after its release, and I got the text.I really like the idea though... but.. this means AT&T knows what firmware we are using, because I didnt get this text... Meaning they already know im at 2.0.2!

BTW, I've had no connectivity issues, either, with any of the firmware versions. I've had one dropped call since July 25th. (I'm just saying it, since most posts are about problems)
