SMS message

Yeah I recieved mine today in the afternoon. My friends had download it and not much of difference but iPhone 3g works fine though. I'm going to download mine now. Check back with you guys later.
Whitey iPhone 3g :apple:

i also received SMS from ATT/Apple. It's first time i've receieved SMS from them alerting me with new SW update.

Very interesting.. It still did not fix my problem.. ehhhh....

I'm still on 2.0 because of all I have read here. Haven't received anything yet.

Same here. I have had my phone for 4 weeks now, and I have never synced it to my computer. Not even once. My phone, still running 2.0.0, has never frozen on me. My phone transitions seemlessly between EDGE and 3G, and all pre-loaded Apps work fine. I do have keyboard lag and contacts lag, but hey, so do the rest of you.
I did not receive a text message from Apple.

Update for me. I just got the SMS message, 4:32pm PDT. I'm still on the factory-installed 2.0.0, so I'm thinking now that ATT is just sending out a blanket message to all iPhone owners to say that an important update is out there (like how M$ Windows, Acrobat, and Java tell you). No phoning home.

BL.

I JUST NOW GOT THE MESSAGE !!!! WOOHOO!!! I'M SPECIAL ... just like everyone else! :D

They even sent mine on 3G ... I guess that means that I won't be able to participate in the class action lawsuit. Heck, everyone I know has 3G coverage ... I guess they won't be able to participate either. Do you see a trend?

How I solved my bad reception issues

I was having some drop calls and low reception here en Mexico when using 3G, but since I discarted the leather case I had for my iPhone and started using it whith nothing on it, all the issues disapeared :). Maybe some one else can benefit from this experince

To make your experience scientific, you need to put the cover back on for a day and see if the signal decreases, then take the cover off and see if the signal increases. Having studied magnetism and radio waves, I can inform you that leather alone will not interfere at all with radio waves, however if the leather has a magnetic dye or metallic paint, the dye or paint could interfere.

I've had a couple of dropped calls but all in the same day, nothing really after that day near the end of july. Aside from that, I updated and actually noticed LESS bars and more fluctuating, BUT it could be because I'm actually paying attention to it now instead of just taking it as it comes.
It does appear more responsive though
and thank god that text is free, these AT&T text messages don't come cheap :(

2.0.2 Firmware

I just finished downloading the firmware I turned it off to refresh it and turn off the 3g and then turn it back on. Its the same no difference except the batter drains soo incrediably fast. Oh well at least my iphone 3g is not doing strange will see tomorrow.

I got it this evening but wife has not yet received the message. Regardless, we both updated a couple of days ago.

I haven't really noticed an increased 3G signal, but I have noticed that the iPhone seems to switch between 3G and EDGE more readily when the 3G signal gets low. I also have not had a dropped call since the update.

I just received a free text message from AT&T and Apple saying that the software update that was released last Monday was suppose to help the 3G connection. Well, with my experience since upgrading to 2.0.2 my connection has basically dropped to 2 bars or less while on 3G in a 3G-enabled city (Dallas, TX) where I am suppose to have excellent connection. Since Monday I have had about 5 or 6 dropped calls, and it takes me about 30 minutes to receive text messages (I tested this out by having one of my friends send me a text message).

I am an Apple supporter. They have amazing computers and iPods and I have recommended them to my friends when they asked me if they should get a PC or a Mac. I only wish the iPhone 3G could be just as reliable.

Currently I have switched my 3G connection to off so I am on EDGE, and I have 5 bars where ever I am.

...
Has anyone had a better connection with 3G since downloading this update?

Thanks.

I've had EXACTLY the same experience. Actually, I downloaded the update because my phone wasn't connecting at all while on 3G. Since updating, my phone now takes anywhere from 15-30 minutes to receive text (tested by having several friends on different networks and on AT&T text me while standing next to me), my phone/internet sometimes doesn't connect at all even though I'm showing 2-4 bars standing in the middle of the street, and 3G still doesn't work. I'm in New York City.

As if it wasn't bad enough that my iPhone doesn't connect to the network, my battery doesn't stay charged throughout the day and I'm constantly recharging it just to keep it alive in a 24 hour period.

The speaker phone is so quiet even when turned all the way up that you can't hear it unless you put in right in your ear hole. What a joke.

I came to this phone from Verizon and I immediately regret the decision. In the 10+ years I was with Verizon I can count on 1 hand the number of times I've dropped calls. Since getting the iPhone I drop more calls in 1 day than I had in 10 years with Verizon. And the call quality of the calls that aren't dropped is so low I'm constantly asking people to repeat themselves or they can't understand what I'm saying.

And what's with the lack of in-building service?! I mean, the phone works only if I step outside of buildings. The second I step inside the phone goes dead or drops all the way down to 1 bar. That's in most buildings. In the building I work in the phone is completely dead unless I step outside. I won't tell you what it does to my productivity having a phone that requires me to stop what I'm doing and walk outside every few minutes to use it.

It's a great device in concept, but it works for *****! What do I do?! I can't run my business off a phone that doesn't work! I'd be better off with a couple tin cans and some string. Maybe a carrier pigeon?

I heard there's a class action suit being filed against Apple because this 3G phone doesn't work. Does anybody know where I can get in on this?

I want out!!!

Hmm, I haven't received a message yet.

I have already updated to 2.0.2, but from what I've read, everyone should receive the message.

It sounds like you got a lemon. Take it back and have them replace it with a new one. Mine isn't perfect but I don't have any of the problems you have, other than the occasional dropped call and poor 3G reception at home (though I suspect that has more to do with where my home is located--AT&T's network--than the iPhone itself).

I'm on 2.0.1 and because multiple people stating that their iPhones were worse than before. I did get the message though, and I just ignored it because I do not need it.
And besides the only problem I had was keyboard lag, which wasn't as bad as others, but now is gone so I'm happy.

I have exactly the same problem when I go inside a building, I was at the Apple store in San Francisco last week and I could not get 3g reception inside the Apple store, how embarassing is that!
