Words of wisdom spoken so eloquently by someone who will surely make a negative impact to others during his lifetime

jaredm1 has an "ego" because he is a decent human being that would do what is right? Before you select such big words, you should first fully understand the meaning and the context of its use.

I read through your posts on this subject giving you the chance to redeem yourself but yet you continued to show pure ignorance. Unfortunately, your demeanor and thought process is so skewed that you will never truly get it.

You're an individual that simply cannot be trusted and will make excuses for your behavior throughout your life (blaming Apple for UPS delivering to the wrong address)? Not sure what your justification is for pocketing $100.00 from someone you saw accidentally/unknowingly drop it.

In your mind you will justify your dishonesty and actually believe you're right while hurting others for personal gain. When does the dishonesty stop and at what price?

If you decide to make another excuse for your actions and reply to this post on my behalf, save yourself the time as I wont wast any more of my time with a derelict.

What a life you must live.

That's the problem with people like you. You always think that what seems right to you is... right. There certainly are different points of view about this subject and I'm actually not astonished by the amount of people who only think about themselves when it comes to opinions. Start listening to others, it's probably good for you.

I have my reasons why I would keep that 100$ dollar bill, and I admire not the ones who say I'm doing something wrong, but the ones who actually like discussing peacefully while thinking about others.

And please note, I never said that giving the MBP back/100$ bill back was wrong. I just said it wasn't right, the same way nothing is right.

And I hope someone here has learned something about "selfishism", because those who haven't are pure ignorants, not in an insulting way, but in a constructive criticism way.

Thank you

"This has happened to me before, by the way, with a small package. The company sent one, it got lost, sent another, both eventually arrived. I informed the company rep ASAP. I was fully prepared to mail it back as long as they were willing to pay the expenses. He told me to keep the duplicate package with his compliments. Clear conscience."

I had an almost-identical experience when buying a $20 item from an ebay seller.

They sent two of the same. I emailed the seller back with the offer to return one, and the response was -- keep it. I did, also with a clear conscience!

The responses of this thread have been most interesting. They reveal more about the ethics of the responders, than perhaps many of them might care for us to know! Having said that -- even though I won't do it here -- it's very easy to also decipher their political leanings, as well!

Wuuuf I ain't american :)

Keeping it will only result in problems for yourself. If you signed for both they have it on file you accepted it. If it was just 'dropped' off which I doubt then you CAN say you never got it but UPS/FedEx will file a police report and blacklist your address causing you to sign for ANY and EVERY package directly.

I called apple and they said I could either have a refund or a replacement and I ordered the replacement.

How long did you have to wait until you reordered?
Mine was delivered to the wrong address. I have been stuck in Apple claims for 3 business days now until Apple confirms the loss. Wonder if Im being neglected here... Appreciate the feedback. My patience is running thin...

So the same thing happened to me. My mom bought a refurb MacBook for my dad, as a surprise. Since they have a joint checking account and he watches it like a hawk, she used Amex gift cards to make the purchase. Problem was, with tax and all, it went like $30 over the amount of gift cards she bought. So she gave them her debit card for that, since he'd never notice or care about a little charge like that. So whatever, everything's great, the receipt gets emailed to us as being a charge for ONE MacBook, I track the shipping of ONE package from FedEx, etc.

But then this morning I go over there to check out the boxes that came from Apple, and discover that *two* identical MacBooks had arrived addressed to my mom. In a little panic we both checked their joint online banking account, knowing that an extra charge of $800 would have freaked my dad out over identity theft and spoiled our little surprise. But, only the $30 overage was charged to their account. Now, it would have been easy for us to keep it and call it a day, but we know better than that, so I'm about to talk to Apple over the whole mess and am currently on hold. Thing is, we're about to go away to visit family for the week, and we're leaving in, like, an hour. I don't have time to go to an Apple store or ship it back or whatever. And if they discover their mistake and charge it to my parents' bank account, they'll ruin the surprise. Arghhhh.

Now I love Apple and have never had a problem with them but uggghh! Did my first problem with them *have* to be this weekend?!

I need to point out that this is an extremely poor representation of Kant's ideas and teachings about ethics. If Kant were on this forum he would rip you to pieces...

You were right about the "overall happiness". But then you didn't take it into account. Stealing that $100 might have a high instance of positive saldo to begin with, but the long-term negative saldo is going to be higher. "Overall happiness" is about the happiness level of your life as a whole. It's all about long-term thinking, while stealing $100 is a great example of short-term thinking. You might be happy to have $100 after you stole it, but you're going to be a lot less happy than you were before you stole when you're sitting at the police station because of your theft.

This is probably the worst application of Kant's teachings that I've ever seen... half of your premise is based on knowing what the other party is thinking, which you don't.
You are right, it is a *very* poor interpretation and Kant would indeed rip me to pieces. However, the example at hand was a straw-man for the question whether or not the OP should keep the second Macbook Pro. I merely tried to continue in that spirit (as you noticed, ignoring several factors), and in doing so twisted Kant's teachings to fit (which is a fallacy). Anyone with a basic understanding of logics and philosophy will notice the ludicrousness of this thread (flawed logic, fallacies, and so on). It's sad to realise I do exactly the same.
Shame on me, now bring on the flawed arguments :D

Edit: @boston04and07
They probably won't charge if they haven't already. But the situation sure s*cks. Good luck!!!
