Apple Set to Increase LiDAR Chip Orders on Strong Demand for iPhone 12 Pro

I think this is all due to keeping all the legacy models on sale (2020 SE excluded of course) so that they could justify the prices for the 12 range. The potential 12 buyers are all split between the legacy models and waiting for the Mini.

I still don't get why the pro is so popular. The only differences are
+ 128GB minimum size, up to 512GB
+ LiDar scanner
+ 6GB of RAM
+ Additional camera
-+ matte back, shine sides
-+ Conservative colors
? battery tests give divergent results

Damn, now that I wrote this list, I should probably get the pro. Too bad there is no mini pro 😤

Honestly what did they expect. In most countries outside the us the price difference between 12 and 12 pro is barely 230$. While the difference between the 11 and 11 pro was 450$. Saying this in euro. A 11 cost 650 euro, while the 11 pro was 1159. Now the 12 cost 959 euro, while the 12 pro is 1159. Just a little more for a lot more
Yeah I think I'm going to go 12 Pro when my 11 is up for renewal as the UK pricing for 256Gb storage 12 Pro is only £10 a month more than the 256Gb 12 on Apple Upgrade program so if you upgrade every year there is only £120 difference in payment costs. For more RAM and a better camera that seems like a good deal to me.

Did you really just make up those numbers?

Well.... when you price the other inferior 6.1" device at only $130 less (assuming both at 128GB), then it shouldn't be so surprising that the 12 pro sells more.

Either this report is erroneously reporting Apple's surprise and Apple knew this would happen pricing the *cough* "more affordable" 12 at $829, or Apple is dumb.

Can't wait till they're "surprised" by how well the mini sells both because it really is "more affordable" than the pro... and, oh yeah, because it's the almost EXACT phone people having been wishing for for years. 🙄

I don't know if Apple is dumb or very smart this year with the iPhone offerings/pricing 🤷‍♂️

Like iPhone 11(vs 11 pro, pro max); iPhone 12 don't have clear winner. Every model will be winner as it caters to the size, features, price combo to different segments of users more or less equally. There was news that iPhone 12 is doing great in India where the price matters the most. So, I am sure iphone 12 will do well in rest of the world.

I wouldn't say the 12 Pro offers "a lot more" vs regular 12. Slightly brighter display, extra camera, Lidar and 2 GB of ram. Will see how the camera improvements of the 12 Pro Max turn out.
- brighter display
- extra camera
- Apple ProRaw
- Dolby vision
- Lidar
- 2GB of Ram
- More luxurious back and frame

I would like to argue these differences are bigger then a 11 pro vs 12 pro update >.<

I am really dubious about Apple Glass. I have been playing around with the iPhone 12 Pro, and AR is still so bad. Things still don't "stick" perfectly, there is noticeable lag when moving the iPhone, and the phone gets crazy hot. The improvements necessary to make something like Apple Glass work seem so far away.

Now that I have seen night photos taken on the Pro I am starting to reconsider my decision to get the Mini.. damn these tiny little hands!! 🤲

What apps are best to use with LiDAR to take advantage of it?

Supposedly it will help with some elements of photography.

So many LIDAR iPhones out there, and most not knowing what to do with it.

I truly wonder if Apple even knows. Otherwise they would have revealed some killer app for it by now.

The popularity for the Pro model appears to have caught Apple by surprise, as the company had reportedly prepared more stocks for the more affordable iPhone 12 on the assumption that demand would be higher for the entry-level 6.1-inch model.

The 6.1" NON-Pro is out-selling the 6.1" Pro, it's just that Apple thought the difference would be in the 3x-4x range, but in reality, it's ONLY in the 2x-3x range.

Apple is selling far more 6.1" Pro models than it expected, & far less 6.1" NON-Pro models than it expected.

Perhaps they simply priced the 6.1" NON-Pro too high !

The mini is the Wildcard, "could" out-sell both by a wide margin ! ... especially AFTER the Early Adopters get their 6.1" Pro.

BTW, the 6.1" Pro has 5.6 GB of DRAM, & it could be LPDDR5 ... still needs to be verified if it does OR not.

The 6.1" NON-Pro has the same 3.7 GB of DRAM as the 2019 Flagship iPhones.

The extra DRAM in this year's two Pro models is a BIG deal, & hasn't gotten its Day in the Sun, simply because few, if ANY, are actually using High Performance Apps anymore.

Its best attribute is that it can Mimic the depth-effect benefit of a FAT, WIDE lens !

Think Female Photo Modeling, both Amateur & Pro.
