Best Buy has the base rMBP 13" listed for $1419 plus if you sign up for their student coupons you get an additional $100 off coupon, so $1319 + tax for a new rMBP 13" base model. I'm thinking about picking one up tomorrow. Tired of waiting for Haswell and school starts in 2 weeks for me.

Those were the days....

yeah especially 2008 when people weren't all hyping iOS yet. I grabbed my Macbook Pro in June and got an iPod Touch. Kept it around as a toy and when the App Store launched I was super happy I had an iPod. I think it's the thing that got me into touchscreen smartphones early. I realized the power of a touchscreen smartphone and apps and then bam.

Just found the BTS in UK, The price for basic models stay unchanged. But if you configure your laptop. The price has increased compared with the price before. What the fxxk....

They issue the 70 pounds gift card. increased the price by almost 200 pounds.

Is this called promotion?

Don't forget ...

... that you can apply the iTunes / App Store credit to your account then use 'EasyPay' at a physical Apple Store to buy items in-store (that you might not think you can use this credit for!) ;)

I noticed this also, i was ready to make the order for a new imac, but the price increased!!

I've been waiting for this for a BTO Air i5 w/ 8GB. In the German online store, no price increase for that at least compared to pre-BTS pricing. However, my school has an "Apple on Campus" online store (offering better pricing than the educational online store) and I noticed that clicking on the BTS ad will remove that discount and go back to the educational store pricing. Maybe that's what's happening to you guys in the UK? Just using my AOC link and adding the laptop to the cart there will automatically add the gift card as well and retain the AOC pricing.

I logged out and logged on again, prices seem to be correct now

This is in UK

If I go to edu store via NUS link and click on BTS promo the 13" rMBP is approx £1170, if I go to NUS link then just click on macbook pro's it's £1070 approx (was this price previously). There is also a diff in upgrades, eg 256gb is +£150 instead of +£138...

So the BTS promo is just bumping up the prices it seems....wtf. It's not even relative! an extra £100 for a £70 voucher....hmmm

Nothing changed yet, the price still higher than pre-BTS. It's almost 200 pounds higher than pre one. That's ridiculous. This is not the promotion I wanted.

It keeps the same. the problem is we need to log in the education store in the bottom link. And log in your university line. the link in the pic is individual student education. When you get in the uni store. it just the same as pre BTS. Good luck guys. I have already placed the order.

If I login to NUS education discount store (via link on NUS site) and click straight
to macbooks it does show as previous price (and looking in more detail it adds the giftcard when you place the order). Yet if you go through BTS banner, it def changes all the prices (yet is still in NUS discount store).

Guess it does not matter much as you can still order at old price, but people need to be careful when ordering

Just the $100 Mac App Store gift card was kind of a bummer. In 2009 and prior It was worth it to wait for these promotions so you could get a $200 device for free along with student discount. I'd be pretty happy to see this type of promotion implemented again.

I agree, I remember the days of a free ipod touch and a free printer. mac apps are kinda worthless to most people

----------

Not really, you missed another option:

3. Student Loans

you would be better off financially in life not going to school than taking out student loans.

Not sure if you are referring to Student Loans in the UK or not so will give you the benefit of the doubt.

But in the UK student loans are pretty good. I got £4k per year (only half needed to be paid back). So buying a macbook out of that is pretty plausible. And my current increase in earnings from going to University 100% makes student loans and going to uni worth it, as I am better off financially...

HS is free? For whom?

Don't be obtuse. You know what I mean.

HS for many is "free" to the student through the statewide/local collection of taxes,

College is not in that regard. These same taxes do not cover the entire collegiate expense. The best they do is offer in-state tuition vs out of state.

You have a student who in hs, never had to pay for books or education directly to a student in college paying fees, books, tuition, and on campus livinbg expenses (while still paying local taxes, etc that may support hs students)

This discount is aimed at acknowledging this burden by a college student
