So the pro gets: nothing but a performance boost on a product that has exceeded software performance needs for the past 5 years.

Base iPad gets an amazing upgrade, a much better Smart Keyboard accessory (You can remove it without having to open it up...), a properly placed camera for a device that is often attached to a keyboard or stand...but they screwed it up with 1st gen Apple Pencil.

Basically all iPad upgrade options suck this year...so I'll pass.

Apple has SO MUCH product overlap and inconsistency between its lineup. At 599 you get the 256gb base ipad with a landscape camera and keyboard attachment that supports function keys, but a terrible pencil integration. Or at the same price you can upgrade to the air with full Stage Manager support, but you lose the better keyboard option and landscape camera function. Then you can upgrade to the iPad Pro which gets you the better processor, but again you lose the keyboard and camera upgrades.

There really should be some linearity in features as you upgrade through the product path. We also now basically sit at budget or mini option, good, better, best with most of the products. Wasn't that the first thing Jobs eliminated when he came back to the company?

The new base iPad seems pretty good, looks like an iPad Air 4. But still using the crappy 1st gen Apple Pencil from 2015. And it's more expensive than before. Is the base iPad's display finally laminated like the Air, Mini, and Pro?

The M2 iPP is just a spec bump and won't offer most users any better experience than the M1 model does.

At least we're finally getting iPadOS soon. Here's hoping it's not terribly buggy.

The base iPad is now overpriced ($399 would be the ideal starting price) and the Pros literally only got a processor upgrade. *yawn*

You need to buy the adapter for lightning to usb-c to charge the first Apple Pencil on the brand new iPad 2022. And its the only way to use a pencil. Now I have seen everything. 😂

Small improvements. However, the iPad owns the tablet market and hasn't really been challenged in the space. Android developers seem to be lazier than Apple with hardware specs ranging from outright terrible to overpriced (Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 o_O).

What a world we live in when a tablet gets the M2 before their desktop lineup!
Do you understand that M1 is more powerful and less power efficient than M2? That's why. Sometimes, larger numbers don't correlate directly to the best product experience.

Apple is crazy for not including the same updates they gave the base model to the Pro. They know they will get hate but they don't care. I was hoping to upgrade my broken screen 4th gen iPad Pro 12.9 but now I really don't know.

For those wanting a landscape camera on the Pro (which is understandable), how could they get that to work when the pencil magnetically attaches in that position?

I honestly think that might not be possible, as the pencil has to charge, and the camera would get in the way of that.

I'm confused. So the basic iPad gets a snazzy new look, smaller bezels and USB C (nice!), but it supports the old apple pencil that is lightning... but it's USB C?!?!
... and there is a dongle for that. We can't wait for you to try it, you are going to love it.

I assume, the limitation is the second generation Pencil probably requires a ProMotion level display and digitizer. And, at this point, those probably don’t make the profit margin cut in the “regular”/entry iPad despite the price increase.

I have the m1 iPad pro and that suffices and will for long time. I skipped through the video and went back to my life. I did cringe though when they showed those hands using the iPad pro - Like the left hands are so static, fake almost with no movement while the right hand does some tasks. You try holding the heavy iPad pro like that do some work!

They need to fire Tim immediately, and hire someone that is going to come in and reboot the product lines with coherent differentiation and tiers.

Why in the world does the new iPad only support first gen Apple Pencil?! This is ridiculous! The European prices are WAY off! Holy cow!
I thought I noticed that v1-indicating silver ring on the end of the Pencil being used in the iPad video. Thought it odd.
But to learn the new iPads only support Pencil 1... That is just bonkers.

That aside... Not really sure what peeps were expecting, though. I guess I should say, I have no idea where to take iPad from here. The hardware is pretty incredible. From size, to weight, to squared off edges, to screen res, to performance, spec bumps are about all I expect in that category. Not the first to say it, but it does seem like the OS is where the real breakthroughs live. And we've seen the 16 betas, so we are where we are. Prob a good idea they didn't keynote this. I guess for those in the market, these are better than the previous models - they get squared off, full-screen, colors and TouchID built into the power button, ala iPad mini. Again, better than previous model. The cycle continues...

No laminated display on the 10th-generation iPad according to the specs.

The 9th-generation stays on sale, which means there are now four mid-size iPads to choose between!

So, now Apple is advertising davinci resolve for iPadOS. Is Apple pretty much giving up on their own final cut software?

You know the new iPad isn't bad, just priced a bit high. Will be interested to see how much it gets discounted at retailers.
