Following its iPhone 16 event on Monday, Apple shared a PDF on its website with a list of all new features and changes coming with iOS 18.

Generic-iOS-18-Feature-Real-Mock.jpg

The list includes many features that were already announced, including Apple Intelligence, new customization options for the Home Screen and Control Center, a redesigned Photos app, several enhancements to the Messages app, a Passwords app, and more.

The first Apple Intelligence features won't be available until iOS 18.1, which will be released in October, according to Apple. Apple Intelligence requires an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or any iPhone 16 model with device and Siri language set to U.S. English, with support for additional languages to follow over the course of the next year.

The list also includes some smaller features and changes that were lesser known or unannounced until now, such as the following:

  • CarPlay now supports Spatial Audio in compatible vehicles. This works with Apple Music and select third-party apps.
  • Spatial Audio is also now supported when using AirPlay to stream audio to a HomePod and select third-party AirPlay-compatible equipment.
  • You can now add and locally control Wi-Fi-based Matter accessories in the Home app without needing a home hub.
  • iOS 18 expands Live Voicemail to additional languages and countries, including English (U.K., Australia, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Puerto Rico), Spanish (U.S., Mexico, Spain, Puerto Rico), French (France), German (Germany), Japanese (Japan), Mandarin (China, Taiwan, Macao), Cantonese (China, Hong Kong, Macao), and Portuguese (Brazil).

A similar list of all new features is also available for iPadOS 18.

Apple said iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 will be widely released to the public on Monday, September 16.

Interesting they don’t list the visual intelligence as a feature. Feels like something they announced last minute. I don’t want to upgrade from a 15PM, but I actually would like to try visual intelligence when it is released.

The topographic and trail maps is exciting for me. I wonder if Maps will lead me off a cliff or to a nonexistent trail?

250 proposed features that are in development. About 14 of which will be available next week.

I'd like Apple to release a list of iOS 18 features minus the ones that require a 15 Pro or 16....

  1. Crappy new photos "experience" that isn't good enough to be replicated in macOS.
  2. Icons anywhere, but not widgets.
  3. Other*
* rcs

Isn't the GM still quite unstable? I think I can survive a couple months without the AI slop and have stable software.
the "AI slop" you speak of... isn't even in the RC.
and even in the latest 18.1 beta, if you don't want "Apple Intelligence", just... turn it off with the switch labeled "Apple Intelligence".

So you're telling me there's no UI glitches? I've read quite a bit on reddit at this point and issues with Mail.
Mail in 18.0 is pretty much identical to Mail in 17.6.
UI glitches and bugs are not always easy to replicate, but it should be noted that, especially on a site like Reddit, you'll hear from the people with something to complain about... and no one else. the majority without issues don't say anything, because a normal working OS is a lot less interesting than someone having problems.
but even then, iOS 17.6.1 has UI glitches and bugs, as does every version of iOS and macOS and Windows and Android and any other modern OS.

It would be nice if they gave the new more-natural-sounding Siri voices to the rest of us on <15pro,16 level phones (I have a 15 standard). I mean, they don't need to give us ALL the high-horsepower stuff and the visuals and all that, but would be nice to have improved voices nonetheless.

If iOS 18 doesn’t bring an iPhone 11 to its knees, I’ll be totally shocked.
Welcome to iOS 18, we got fun and games
We got everything you want, honey, we know the names
We are the OS that can find whatever you may need
If you got the iPhone, honey, we got your disease
It's the OS, welcome to iOS 18
Watch it bring your iPhone 11 to your n-n-n-n-n-n-n-n knees, knees
Oh ah, I wanna see it bleed

Lemee guess….still no smart albums for photos?
Unfortunately, I wanted that last week-end, but I haven't seen that.

As a kind of a workaround... Searching is much improved and much better and faster than ever. You can type a geographical location you visited (i.e. Mexico), type the name of a thing (i.e. beach), and type "Favorites" and it will show your best photos at the beach in Mexico. For each of those things it will create a "tag", so Mexico will be recognized by the search engine as a location.

As another note, I'm running iOS 18 since the late Public Betas and it's been running really well. There's a bunch of stuff where I can say "Finally", and it seems like they've squashed hundreds of bugs too according to the beta release notes. It's a great release IMO.

Has Apple yet posted a similar, comprehensive PDF of all the new features in macOS 15? (They did this last year for Sonoma, but so far i haven’t seen it for Sequoia)
