It would be nice if they gave the new more-natural-sounding Siri voices to the rest of us on <15pro,16 level phones (I have a 15 standard). I mean, they don't need to give us ALL the high-horsepower stuff and the visuals and all that, but would be nice to have improved voices nonetheless.
It would not surprise me at all for older phones to get some sort of/almost AI features. There must be some features that require less horsepower than other features.

Welcome to iOS 18, we got fun and games
We got everything you want, honey, we know the names
We are the OS that can find whatever you may need
If you got the iPhone, honey, we got your disease
It's the OS, welcome to iOS 18
Watch it bring your iPhone 11 to your n-n-n-n-n-n-n-n knees, knees
Oh ah, I wanna see it bleed
Have you tested it on a 5 year old phone or do you prefer to spew uninformed nonsense?

This is interesting:

Files

Desktop and documents in the Cloud setup
When you set up a third-party cloud
account on your device, you will be invited
to sync desktop and documents to the
cloud. This can also be set up later in
Settings.

It would be nice if the iPhone/Mac can sync directly to third party clouds
without installing an app.

Above the list reads, "Apple Intelligence'. Does that mean that all of these features are restricted to iPhone 15 Pro (and up) and Silicon iPads & Macs?

Ok, this is totally off-topic, but the headline "Apple Shares Full List of..." reminded me of AppleShare. Do y'all remember that product? OMG, I haven't thought about it for YEARS, DECADES!!!

Way back when, AppleShare was a pretty big deal, I think, as it really brought the possibility of networking local computers and printers together in a way that made it easy for a non-expert. I remember my high school computer teacher networking the computers in the computer room with LocalTalk. Computer Room! What school now has a dedicated "Computer Room"?

Anyhow...told you it was random and off-topic... :)

My uncle works at Nintendo and he said the Switch 2 is going to run iOS 17.
My uncle works at Nintendo, too and he said that your uncle is lying. The Switch 2 will indeed run iOS18, but since it doesn't have 'Apple Intelligence', most new features won't work.

So you're telling me there's no UI glitches? I've read quite a bit on reddit at this point and issues with Mail.

There are UI glitches when adding icons to Home Screen using the new widget resizing. Most of the newly added stuff still feels slightly beta. I've yet to run in to any major issues. Not like on 16 when Safari decided to edit my paragraphs for me.

This is the most bug-free release I've run in a long time, for the things I use. It's only the new stuff which is not quite done, but the amount of bugs fixed and performances improved outweighs the minor issues to the actually useful new features and layouts.

I am a little annoyed that the text effects button in messages doesn't seem to be able to be removed. Hopefully they'll fix that. But all the apps I need work just as well or better.

Any updates on RCS messaging? Anyone on 18 sharing media with Android users?

I have a Verizon line and a Tmobile MVNO line. The Verizon line claims to support RCS but is not working, even with another Verizon user on the same account. The MVNO doesn't even claim to support it.

I'm hoping this changes after the final release.

the iPad Pro is amazing, and the iPhone 16 isn’t bad when it comes to hardware upgrades. I think they should actually focus even more on software and services.

I agree completely, Apple's HW game is on a very high level these days, my point was directed at the fact that this year everything is incredibly iterative, the design hasn't changed much if at all for most products this year (with the new AirPods 4 being the exception), and there are no new form factors.

Also agree on the focus on SW... there's so much more Apple can do on that front

And actually be quiet enough to enjoy it while traveling down the freeway 😋
Agreed. I honestly don't get the need for high-end car audio. Even if you weren't supposed to be paying attention to the road, thereby not truly appreciating the way the music is being presented, there's always too much road noise or noise from the engine or any number of things to break the listening. All high-end audio does in cars is make an intolerable quest for volume to somehow overpower non ideal listening conditions. Or I guess to impress/upset those around you depending on how they feel about car audio. I'd far rather invest the money in a good home setup where you can truly appreciate your tunes. Sadly, I know that for many, the car is the only place to listen in peace, so I get why people spend the money there. But they're never going to get a great experience, IMO.

Interesting they don’t list the visual intelligence as a feature. Feels like something they announced last minute. I don’t want to upgrade from a 15PM, but I actually would like to try visual intelligence when it is released.
It's an iPhone 16 feature rather than an iOS 18 one, yes, it comes in iOS 18 but exclusive to that model.

in the release notes, it said the voicemail is extended to support lang other than english, e.g. cantonese for china and hk.

do you guys know how to set the voicemail, both the greeting and the transcript, to use other lang?
