What's the cheap-looking little walkie-talkie thing Tim is holding in his hands? It has an antenna. It doesn't look like an Apple product... which is odd. I'd assume he'd use an iPhone if this was simply for advancing to the next slide in the Keynote app - there's an app for that. (Branding, consistency, and all that).

The "Liquid Retina" is basically the same display that we have had for years...And calling something the Super Retina HD or the Max just makes you sounds like a 5 year old that is trying to one up their friends. Im guessing next year they will call the the Super Retina times infinity display....

Perhaps it didn't warrant a new name, but the low bezel all around LCD was actually a new version of LCD that Apple teamed with a Japanese company to put in the Xr. There were some articles on Mac Rumors about it. So it wasn't just the same with a new name.

I was hoping for a little more from the XS but I get that this years release is about completing the lineups transition to X style phones. My wallet says thank you. I might have to get the series 4 watch though. There’s enough new features since the original that I might upgrade. The issue is cost. I don’t know if I want to pay an extra $100 plus AT&T’s monthly fees for a watch with LTE though it would be nice to be able to leave the house from time to time without the phone knowing I wouldn’t miss any important texts or calls even if I had to take a call on the watch and look like a total DB. Lol!

It's unwatchable. They all try to be something they aren't. And they're all busy congratulating each other for their imaginary good job.

I really miss the old Steve Jobs presentations. Made me want to buy everything. Of course they took chances back then, now they're just another service company.

BTW not getting the new XS or anything else. They already have my fingerprint, they aren't getting my face.

Hmm
but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die."

For the day you purchase from this fruit you shall certainly be broke. :D

Nevertheless Apple will sell a ton of these phones and make hugh profits and Tim and the boys will be shareholder hero's with multi million dollar stock bonus's.

I was hoping for new Macs and mac mini's or even the new ipads not just more expensive phones or watches. So it was kind of a downer to me as well.:(

I wouldn't wish my worst enemy to sit through a viewing of this. If it was a choice between having to watch it again or water boarding I may well choose the latter. It really is time for Apple to scrap these events. The most gracious thing you can say is 'they were of their time'.
How dramatic.

Yeah Apple totally has access to your fingerprints...

You obviously misunderstood. No any navigation system would ever tell you to jump into a pond, even if it is shallow.

However, there was a time when Apple Maps told people in Fairbanks, Alaska who were trying to get to the airport there to take their car onto an airport taxiway in order to get to the terminal. :p

I watched it while it was streaming live, and enjoyed it. I think Tim looked more relaxed and comfortable than he ever has before (although I never jumped on the "he's not Steve" bandwagon) and was genuinely excited about the product line. Jeff stumbled a bit, and Phil was his usual Dad self. All in all, a fun experience.

I made it until 10 or 15 minutes during the Apple Watch part, then I closed it because wasn't paying attention anymore, checked the Apple page one hour later to check the new iPhones. iPhone Xr will be the next to be "unapologetically" discontinued.

Did anyone else notice that in the opening video, when that lady was running with the suitcase and she asked Siri for directions to Steve Jobs Theater, Siri started rambling off the directions and the lady promptly took off running a different way? It made me chuckle because of the implication that Apple's own employees don't do what Apple Maps tells them to do.
The ridiculously clear intent was that she didn't have time to take the route that used an established path that people are actually permitted to walk on, and instead sprinted across the fountain, which would be somewhere between faux pas and career damaging, illustrating the severe import of delivering the case in time. She also ran across tables in the cafeteria. Did you think Apple Maps should recommend that? While you were focused on her ignoring directions, the thing everybody else was noticing was that she got Siri's attention with, "Hey Siri", rather than having to tap an earpiece.

The whole "Apple Maps is terrible" thing is getting really old - yes, they were bad initially; they've gotten worlds better, but people keep asserting something "everybody knows" based on outdated information. I use Apple Maps a lot, and I find it more useful and more trouble-free than Google Maps.

Now, Apple is removing the lower cost option, which used to be the iPhone 8, and replacing it with a more expensive option.
They're still selling the 8 (and the 7), so it still is the lower cost option.

did not expect it, but I actually do like the new watch (the predecessors were kind of ugly to me)

the watch design is maturing and there are some nice new functions

will not get it anyway because I do not wear watches

on the contrary, the new iPhones do not excite me one bit ...

I'm told it it's the standard controller for a PerfectCue system, which is the one all the better-equipped presenters depend upon. It can indicate more than simply "next slide", and if you're doing a live streamed event in front of all your customers, you don't want to be fumbling around looking down at an iPhone to make sure you're hitting the right part of the glass for the button you want - separate tactile buttons allows discrete hands-free use. Using such a device makes lots of sense, and buying the best one on the market rather than devoting developer/designer resources to building one in-house (when you only need one) seems like a good use of resources.

If you missed Apple's "Gather Round" event yesterday or if you just want to rewatch, the event video in its entirety is now available from Apple's YouTube channel, in addition to the Apple Event website.

At the "Gather Round" event that was held at the Steve Jobs Theater on the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California, Apple unveiled its new 2018 iPhone and Apple Watch lineup.

Three new iPhones made an appearance, including the high-end flagship OLED iPhone XS and XS Max in 5.8 and 6.5-inch screen sizes and the new lower-priced iPhone XR, which features an LCD display and six color options.

Apple also unveiled new Apple Watch Series 4 models with bigger displays, slimmer bodies, a faster S4 chip, a haptic Digital Crown, and support for taking electrocardiogram (ECG) readings.

If you don't want to watch Apple's full video, take a look at our recap, which covers all of the major features you need to know in just six minutes.

The iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and Apple Watch Series 4 will be available for pre-order starting tonight at 12:01 a.m. ahead of a September 21 launch date. The iPhone XR will be available for pre-order on October 19 ahead of an October 26 launch date.

Apple still has multiple products on the horizon that did not make a debut at the September event, which suggests we may also get an October event where the company launches new Macs and iPad Pro models.

Am I missing something with the 7nm process?? Wasn’t it supposed to bring huge processor advancements in speed and battery life?? 30-90 minutes more of battery life doesn’t seem much, and the 15% processor bump (if not mistaken), doesn’t say much either... so, can someone explain to me, what’s soooooo fancy with 7nm???

This is said on a yearly basis now. I guess it speaks volumes to just how good Jobs was. I think we’re all realising more and more the difference he really made, he was the key ingredient to what made Apple, Apple. Now? They are just like any other tech company really. I don’t feel any emotional attachment to any of their products like I did in the past, I don’t get the same joyful satisfaction out of any of them either. They used to be warm and full of life almost, but are now cold and... lifeless. They are still good products, but they are missing that special thing that once made them (to quote Jobs) insanely great products.
I didn't bother to watch this one. But I'm older now, and I've had iPhones ever since the first one. Currently I have the iPhone X, and I'll probably keep it another year or maybe two.

It's eleven years since that first iPhone. iPhones are not going to be super-exciting now. Back when Steve Jobs was still around, even he couldn't make the iPod Nano exciting. I seriously doubt he could make you fall in love with the iPhone XS the way he did with your first iPhone. And he couldn't do it in this market when nearly every detail was already leaked before he walked onstage.

I wouldn't wish my worst enemy to sit through a viewing of this. If it was a choice between having to watch it again or water boarding I may well choose the latter.
Uh, so... best of luck with your waterboarding... I guess? (Sorry, I'm not familiar with the protocol for proper etiquette surrounding such procedures.)

Who was putting the eye drops in your eyes while they were pried open to force you to watch this, and what kind of manacles did they use to restrain you? It's a shame you couldn't have gotten free somehow and changed the channel. Oddly enough, I watched the whole thing of my own free will.

I think the big joke are iphone prices- sure in US they start at $749, but in Greece and apparently many more european countries the prices for the Xr start at 929 euros (equivalent to $1,086 usd!!!)... Minimum price for the Xs Max is currently at around $1,570 usd... Xs Max 512 GB is $2,095!!!!! Bravo Apple, thanks for screwing us!!!

Oh good to know I missed that one, I was just disappointed it was the same PPI as the iPhone 5...

The guy who presented the watch suffers from charisma bypass...boooooring

He's no Craig / Scott / Phil etc

As for the rest of it - a 6.5 inch phone = how big a pocket do you need ???

I can hardly fit my 8 plus in mine
