Is there not a way to just add a SATA card and then install a garden variety SATA ssd on your own? (without needing and Apple certified technician).

If not, that's a huge fail.

thunderbolt enclosure or san would be more likely considering what these will be used for.

yeah, I noticed the same thing. I was hoping to get base model and if desired upgrade that in a year when they are cheaper.. I guess not.

Looking at the design, Xeon processor is a clip in with the air cooler above it. It should be a whole hell easier then it was 6 years ago.

In the MPX video, the user is instructed to keep the power cable plugged-in, but at the end, they should reattach the power cable. Someone didn't proofread their copy...

It says to keep it plugged in to ground yourself. The next step after that is to unplug the cord (0:35). You have to unplug it since standby power will still be supplied.

Question: Can a person that has purchased an $8000 computer buy an additional 256GB SSD and install it themselves???

Is this computer an open architecture with regards to hardware or NOT:mad:
The Mac goes into many military and government installations. I think it is great that the SDD is locked to the system. It is super secure, and calling Apple Tech for a T2 unlock or validate a SSD is just another great way to secure you data. Would I want anyone to call Onstar to have them unlock my car to take my things inside. I have to prove who I am so I can get into my car if I locked myself out or the batteries went dead on my remote. Onstar unlock this car and start if for me, I want to drive this 2020 Corvette, but I don't own it.

You can't because the computer does not physically have a 3.5 or 2.5 inch drive bay.

Has anyone else noticed that you're not offered AppleCare when configuring the new Mac Pro? I was offered AppleCare for the display, but not the Mac Pro. Is AppleCare unavailable for it?

I suspect it is the same price, if you look at the AppleCare + page they show the new monitor. My guess it is the same cost as the last model.

Basically you can only freely upgrade the RAM and you can sort of upgrade the PCI-E slots, but it has yet to be seen if you can install non Apple-approved cards. It’s actually not a really big upgrade from the trash can in that regard.

I installed PCI-E non Apple cards in my old Mac all the time. It should be no different now.

Oh my god!!!! you have to call Apple for assistance!! how horrific. I talk to AppleCare people all the time and they are great and have helped me many times. They have a great helpdesk. I won't even talk about how may bad Helpdesk I have had to talk to over the years!!!!!

I think the point is that he would like to be able to add the SSD himself. No helpdesk or apple support involved at all. I would agree with that. I don't mind apple having some of their own SSD's, but give me an M.2 or 4 and some SATA connections so I can add storage myself.

Yes that feature is useful for some. But not at all useful for me. The security features should be optional.

Are you ***** kidding me?!? The $6000 ultimate, expandable mac has no way to add an internal SATA ssd ... even with an add-in internal expansion card?!?

I think I just threw up a bit in my mouth.

Oddly enough, you need to call an Apple service provider if you want the wheels installed after you buy the machine. Does that mean the feet are locking? Or that it's a totally different bottom plate?

You might want to do some simple research before going into hysterics. Of course, I doubt you were going to buy one anyway.

You cannot put a SATA card in but you can add a SATA drive via a MPX module.

SATA is obsolete. It has not been substantially updated for a decade. In the PC world, it's going M.2 or U.2 on the high end.

Anyone else find it insulting to have a VIDEO on how to properly install more memory on a Mac Pro? Maybe it's just me, but I think that a simple support document is sufficient for 90%+ of people buying this...
