They're also saving the planted by extending the upgrade cycle to 3 years with the iPhone 7 because no one will buy it

Dude, you hit the nail on the head. While Apple's "eco-friendly" facade has been around for over a decade, it all comes down to profitability. Ecology created a strong emotional reaction of nurturing for many. Connect that feeling with a product, you are gold!

Given a small enough population on the planet, everything is renewable.
Given a large enough population on the planet, nothing is renewable.

So what are you saying, doing nothing is better than doing something?

no you are missing the point...people are getting exited about an announcement when it shouldn't be much of a surprise ! most datacenters are used in the banking, logistics, health care sectors, etc... but yes i do understand that imessage is equally important (cough, cough).
besides you can only be 100% green when you encourage your employees to be green as well which i can hardly believe.. have the buildings been erected by means of green energy.. doubt that as well.. so in conclusive this ad is merely an act of propaganda to lure the ignorant...

so what i say is: hmmmmm

And it would be better for you not to use a computer that also runs on non-renewable energy to post on these forums running on more non-renewable energy.
So start being a leader and stop posting here. THAT will show Apple and the rest of us. Be an example!

All things being equal, your advice might be valid.

However, the good I can do imparting my wisdom here at MacRumors outweighs the good I would do in saving that energy.

So I will keep on posting, you will be relieved to know.

Turning green is an evolution, not an endpoint.

Sounds like the same type of rationale would apply to Apple as well (and likely in a much more exponential manner too).

So basically not useless to many of those who use it?

And iMessage was advertised as an open API?

Yes, it was.
They talked about multi-platform integration and an API to built into your own applications.

The problem with iMessage is not that it's bad or anything, but if I have to use another messenger to communicate with the majority of people, I would rather just use one messenger to text everybody.

I recall there was a mention to that effect early on in regards to FaceTime, but I can't say I've heard anything similar in relation to iMessage.

Basically because of banal reasons : lack of fuel, lack of food, lack of medicine, lack of services, etc, but note that the births grow as well.
Then it's likely that the (predicted) skyrocketing Death rate would correspond to the same countries with the skyrocketing Birth rates.

Maybe in the 3rd world countries? China just lifted its 1-child policy, as a matter of fact.

The point is that by using Apple devices - and therefore, Apple services - you are lessening your contribution to environmental damage of Earth.

The services (here: iMessage) are run by renewable sources of energy. Renewable energy counteracts (or at least helps balance) the impact caused by using fossil fuels.

I get that. Not sure if others will based on the ad.

iMessage has been a problem for me ever since release. The messages never get delivered to the right device. Sometimes texts aren't received. It's just been a mess. I know a few people who use it without problem. idk

When it first launched I thought it was dumb anyway. Take my unlimited text messages and start sending them through my limited data plan instead. Just didn't make sense with wireless data caps being so low and already having unlimited texts to switch to a service that would eat into my data. Data isn't as much a problem for messaging now as it used to be. But since the service still messes up on me, I can't use it.

iMessage has features sms or mms doesn't. If you don't care for some of the features of iMessage I can understand why you want sms or mms; but I like iMessage.

I applaud apple for their continuing effort to try and become more environmentally friendly.

If every manufacturer and company tried the same , to win customers via becoming GREEN, we might get somewhere. Regardless of the motives
