This is what keeps me away from getting one. They don’t really offer enough compelling reasons to convince me to switch from Amex. I also don’t need to add anything else to my wallet.

The Amex extended warranty and purchase protection is seriously hard to give up.
Plus cash back, at least with the AMEX Blue Cash I have.

Maybe I am too critical but Apple had really stopped making creative, fun and memorable ads.

You can even see that they didn’t put much work in making these ads – these were shot in one take and literally just voiced over and cut precisely.

Also the color grading work is horrendous and dull. How are they trying to grab attention (key goal of any ad) if the picture looks colorless an lifeless?

Also too much attention on actors/fake looking play and almost 0 attention to actual Apple Card process. For example they don’t show if the process to set it up is simple or not, some action shots when people buy something OFFLINE (cmon COVID is over! They must show it is over!).

Tl;dr Apple management really needs to sit and reThink their branding and marketing strategy if they ever want to get to 4 trillion cap

They're in the laundry room. He has a laundry basket at his feet. He did the laundry and the sweater was shrunk when he took it out of the dryer. That was all pretty clear, I thought.
Interesting, I will have to rewatch it. I thought it shrunk in the laundry, not that he out grew it.

I do laundry, but that never occured to me. The sweater looks brand new, and not like something that was washed incorrectly and ruined. It doesn't change the fact that all three ads are about decay and failure. Two failed articles of clothes, and a guy letting his wife clean the gutters.

Since the focus was on his protruding belly, I missed the story initially, but figured it out eventually.

Overall I thought the ads were dark and weird. 🤷

Apple Card has zero card benefits other than cash back compared to other no-fee cards: zero extended warranty, zero protection from loss/theft in first X days, rental car coverage, etc etc. Other than Apple purchases (3% back), there are other no fee cash back cards which offer way more consumer protections with useful web sites and live support staff.

It also has no foreign transaction fees, so it’s decent for travel if you have no other travel credit cards.

Skeptical:
Not sure about level of human support. Like if I had a real problem. Amex is proven to me as is Chase.

FWIW chat support has always been really responsive for me and disputes have been a lot easier than many other cards I’ve had. A few messages back and forth and I was all set. That said if it’s a wallet app related problem the Apple Card/GS support will hand you off to Apple support and vice versa which is kind of strange.

Was genuinely curious. Not trying to strike a nerve.
All good. Problem is you don’t really know a lot of these little things until you sign up and start using their products. A good example is their checking account, you receive a “debit card” but the debit card processes as a credit card still so if the company doesn’t take AMEX then you can’t use the debit card. Make it make sense.

I don't know what you mean. When I lived in UK I had to manually pay a credit card balance too.

I think you might be confused credit vs debit here.

Even in Europe you have to pay it manually (unless you set it up as automatic which is possible in USA/Canada too)
Huh, maybe it's an Italy thing but even credit cards automatically pay themselves off from your balance, they just do it every month instead of every transaction

I don't think I've ever seen a bank here that doesn't just pay itself automatically but I might be mistaken

Thats a debit card - not credit card.

2 different things.

Debit card - uses your existing money you have on your account
Credit card - is a temporary loan provided by card issuer which needs to be paid either in full or partially each cycle. There is usually 3 weeks grace period.

In the UK I pay my credit card by direct debit; I can set this up to pay the minimum, a set amount (if more than minimum) or total amount owed that month. I can also pay card manually. My debit card on the other hand takes money from my bank (monzo) as soon as I use my card. Older banks debit card would process overnight and take money next day or Monday when using card at the weekend.
I would like to see Apple Cash and the Apple Card in the UK but maybe our banking system and existing cards means Apple Card wouldn’t be profitable enough for Apple to open an Apple Card here.

Why would you buy the same sweater again if it is so prone to shrinkage and clearly not fit for purpose? It seems like a foolish thing to do. I don’t understand this ad.

You clearly don't understand how washing works. LOL

Any jumper will shrink when washed incorrectly!

Now we know that your wife is doing the laundry :)

Maybe I'm mistaken but I've never heard of people here getting credit card bills, we just get a lette from the bank outlining how much money they automatically deducted at the end of the month

I'm actually checking the website of an Italian bank right now and they just mention charging your bank account 30-45 days into the next month with no mention of being able to pay manually

Guess my "as an European" was a gross generalization tho! Clearly it's not set up this way EVERYWHERE, my personal experience involves both Italy and Spain so I incorrectly assumed it was the same everywhere else

Exactly this! You get the impression that she's been putting up with this hapless guy for years, and now the Apple card makes picking up after him that much easier. You can see it in the story they're telling - he's a goof and she's patient (but a little over it).

I'm an early adopter, August 2019.
I like the card, nice 1-2-3 cashback although 90% of it is 2%.

It's ok when you can tap to pay where your other cards only get 1% or 1 point per $ spent.

But yeah, it has no benefits but the ability to request a new virtual number on the spot is great.

I believe every card has its niche, I definitely have an use for Apple Card!

I have had the Apple Card since August 2019. At this point, I have gotten thousands back in cash back and it's been far better than the points based CC's I used to use.
I have had mine since the beginning also and use it regularly because of the decent purchase rewards and the savings account interest it pays me.

my wife who doesn't like a lot of cards got hers about a year and a half ago. it is the first card she uses now and has some cash in savings. she is a big fan of the card. tells merchants to get Apple Pay on their system if they do not have it. she tells her friends about how much she likes it also. even the friends that say they don't like apple but cannot tell you why they do not...

my Phd friend still dislikes apple because his students have apple products and he takes pleasure from shaming them for it. he would be very happy with a text pager and a flip phone but his choice is a google phone because it is not apple or Samsung. go figure...

I have been using Apple Card since day one, but in recent months I stopped as I was leaving out too much potential for earning cash back. 2% in my opinion is OK but not great anymore and the fact that Apple Card is MasterCard and thus it is not accepted at Costco was the tipping point for me.
I have moved to US Bank Altitude Reserve which gives 3% on any tap to pay purchase and if redeemed for travel that number jumps to 4.5%. There are plenty of other benefits that US Bank Altitude Receiver offers and while I recognize that Apple has a really nice interface and transaction search is very powerful, ultimately, money talks and being able to earn over double the cash back compared to what Apple Card was offering was good enough reason for us to move away from Apple.

If Apple decides to up the game and perhaps offer flat 3% on all Apple Pay transactions and 2% on titanium swipes, I will reconsider it, but 2% for tap and 1% for swipe is too weak in my opinion.

I doubt Apple would ever offer such but, it would be great if we could redeem part or all of the cash back on our account towards the purchase of a new Apple product. I would like to see the ability work the same way we can currently have the cash back automatically sent to Apple Savings.

We never use our AC card for big purchases because 2% back isn’t enough to make up fo the lack of supplemental coverages and insurance.

We use our AMEX for big durables purchases and use my AC for smaller consumable purchases.

I guess this is exactly why Apple won't be opening Apple Card anywhere other than the US, too many regional differences!

Between these and the “Crush” ad, Apple needs to fire whoever’s in charge of making these videos. They’re all so weird for the sake of being weird. And somewhat dystopian…(the YOU FORGOT TO PAY segment of the Ladder video in particular). Their ads could be so much better.
