Drops to 4th in Fortune 500 list. Missed out to Netflix for Obama series. Wonder why?
Apple's revenue increased by 6%. You make it sound like their finances are in bad shape, they're the highest valued company in the world, almost touching $1 trillion market cap lmao

This is definitely a generational thing used to placate those that are heavily into Snapchat. However, can Apple just dedicate more resources to fixing Siri? I would be fine if Apple came to WWDC and said we have nothing new to offer except complete dedication to making Siri better. I would personally climb onto the roof of the HQ and sprinkle confetti on everyone as they walked into the building each morning.

They just made a huge hire recently who reports directly to Tim Cook. I forget the name, but he was important in Google’s AI efforts.

I share people's frustration at the lack of new macs that satisfy more users... but I'm pretty confident that the advertising team who came up with this are probably not the same people who would have been making a new mac mini (etc) if the animoji ad hadn't been taking up all of their time... I doubt it was a choice between the two things... animoji ads or new macs.

Maybe I'm being overly-optimistic, but if anything, the stuff we see as cringe-y, silly fluff that sells iPhones could in theory give Apple more scope for making macs, not less.

"for a short period of time, Animoji karaoke took over the internet"

It was a very short period lasting until Apple hopped on the bandwagon & catapulted everyone else off.

This is targeted to iPhone X users to revive the flame after months of buying a +1000 USDs phone. You need to know you spend your money on something cool (at least until later this year).

Used Animoji maybe a few times on the first day it came out, haven't used it ever since. Do people actually use it regularly? And same with iMessage stickers? Assume it's just for children to beg their parents for...

Apple has reached a new low.

Can we have a (real) pro laptop instead? How about an updated mac mini? Or replaceable batteries (in any product)?

Agreed. They shouldn’t have taken the engineers off the things you mentioned and put them on Animoji, something in a field they were not hired for and likely have no expertise in.

So at the WWDC keynote, I'm expecting nothing more than a truck load of innovating emojis. Emojis are at the very bottom of my 'don't-care list'.

Netflix is putting in 8x the cash this year, I’m sure that has something to do with it.
Yeah, but Apple has 10x the cash that Netflix could possibly spend even if they liquidated their company. I'm not sure I want Apple to become a content provider, but if money is all that stands in their way of becoming a media company then really, nothing stands in their way.

Apple is also making things that aren’t movies. I’d rather Apple take that money and use it to hire more software engineers, buy AI companies, and maybe some chip companies to help them continue to make amazing chips.

Movies should be the one that gets the least focus in terms of cash.

Edit: And so many server farms. Build them.

The watch really got actual traction and approval under Cook. People are now wearing watches again. Apple watches in particular are easy to spot everywhere and produce billions in sales. What exactly would YOU have done differently? Updated the Mac mini so that a tiny subset of niche users would stop complaining?
You better believe it - that so-called niche is not that small. Many of them were FORCED to resort to using iMacs.

Wearing watches again? Not me.

Apple yesterday shared a new Animoji karaoke ad on its Korean YouTube channel to highlight the newly released "Citizen Kane" single from Korean indie group HYUKOH.

As with previous Animoji karaoke songs Apple has shared, the new spot features Apple's Animoji characters lip syncing to the new song.

HYUKOH's "Citizen Kane" single comes ahead of the planned release of the group's newest album on May 31.

Apple first adopted Animoji karaoke for two ads that were created for the 2018 Grammys, with Apple's characters singing "Redbone" by Childish Gambino and "Stir Fry" from Migos.

Animoji karaoke is a concept that was conceived by iPhone X users back in November of 2017 shortly after the release of the new device. People discovered that Apple's 3D emoji characters that are designed to mimic facial expressions and emotions could be used for lip syncing to songs, and for a short period of time, Animoji karaoke took over the internet.

Animoji are limited to iPhone X users because the front-facing TrueDepth camera is required to create the depth map that's used to animate them with a person's facial expressions, but in the future, Animoji will be available on additional devices. The next-generation iPad Pro, which is rumored to be adopting the TrueDepth camera, is likely to be the next device that will support Animoji.

Since the launch of the iPhone X, Apple has added four new Animoji characters, including the dragon, bear, skull, and lion, two of which are used in the new Animoji karaoke ad.

Apple is planning additional updates to Animoji karaoke in iOS 12, with rumors suggesting Apple will add more new Animoji characters. Apple is also said to be planning an overhauled Animoji interface and Animoji integration in FaceTime. Animoji support for FaceTime would allow users to use Animoji characters during FaceTime calls.

Yes, we get it. You (And others) want an updated Mini. But you waiting for an updated Mac Mini has nothing to do with the context of an article about the iPhone X. Two things are not mutually exclusive.
Do you REALLY think people are going to spend all that money to buy an iPhone X just because of this "feature"?
It DOES have to do with the fact that it has been TOO LONG since the desktop computers have been updated. Some apps will refuse to function with older products that have operating systems that cannot be updated. Buying the more recent (new OR used) versions with 5-year-old electronics is unacceptable.

Does anyone actually use animojis?

I do but not in the way that it's pitched. I don't send video Animoji messages. Instead, I use it as reaction stickers. Rather than search for an Emoji to depict my reaction, I just make the face myself with Animoji and drag the sticker to the iMessage chat.

The TrueDepth camera and Animoji have the potential to be the future of Emojis. There are just too many and they continue to grow. Animoji provides a way to minimize them. Instead of one emoji per emotion, just have a character selection and then make it display the real emotion/reaction currently on your face.
