I also got American Express in Canada just because of Apple Pay.

It is my property because I paid for it. They have provision in contract where they can check your receipt to verify it is your stuff and or if cashier maybe made mistake. Also prevents others from stealing your cart. But the way they act most of time makes me feel like they think I'm a shoplifter or stealing stuff.

The Costco employees at door act like jerks often.

I've been a Costco member for years. I've never found an employee, at the door or anywhere else in the stores, to be jerks. As was mentioned before, when you join Costco you sign an agreement stipulating that they will check your purchases when you leave the store. If you don't like that then don't shop at Costco and don't pay them for a membership. But don't go calling them jerks if they're only doing the job that they're paid to do.

I guess Apple Pay is taking off. Here in my little corner of Texas it is accepted in a very few stores. I use it every chance I get and the clerks are amazed every time I do. It is not taking off fast enough for me. I really hope it becomes universal sooner rather than later.

Why the slow roll out? Apple Pay has been around for over a year and still not available in most of european countries.

I agree, tell you what I thought was ironic though. Parking wardens, (can you use Pay for fines/charges?), are considered as jerks even though they are doing the job they’re paid to do. Go figure.

I tried to use ApplePay today at Trader Joe's because they had the logo on the machine and what a waste of time. It never quite worked (and the cashier had no idea how it was supposed to work too), so it was faster and easier to just swipe my card…… :\

I use Apple Pay less than once a week. It would be more useful if it was accepted by more merchants. But some who were supposed to deploy it (Chevron, for example) haven't done so widely. And others like Subway theoretically accept it, but the terminals are often not accessible. Even at places that take Apple Pay, it's a pain to have to sign for purchases above a certain amount because the merchant doesn't support the Consumer Device Cardholder Verification Method.

I've had an Apple Watch for 2 months now but I have yet to find a place I frequent that takes Apple Pay (note, I work from home so I don't eat out much):

i.e. I'm in the NW Fort Worth, TX area and often am at one of these, none of which accept it:
* Walmart
* Target
* CVS pharmacy
* Minyards/Sun Fresh grocery store
* Starbucks (although I use their app for the points anyway)

It would be too big a barrier for entry - not everyone is going to sign up for a new credit card (even if it is very easy) just to get apple pay. Also, a lot of existing apple pay partners might get a bit peeved if Apple were to move in to the financial services industry and could pull out of apple pay.
"Too big a barrier for entry"… What are you talking about? Anybody can issue a branded credit card (and almost everybody does these days) As for Apple; I still have my old Apple Citibank VISA card exp 1997. Used to get Apple bucks for using it. Was really sorry when they discontinued it.

As part of the membership agreement you did agree to have your receipt checked at the exit.

Oh no no, it's an evil corporation doing evil things to him, in an attempt to ruin his life! < Much more logical explanation

I'm thinking there should be a test on these agreements after accepting them, to verify that people actually read them.

That's 100% in your head. They do not behave like that. Most of the time, in my experience, they just look bored. As would I, having to do the same mundane task over and over.

This. In fact I never had them really check anything. Just mark the receipt anyway.

They have to turn on the card machine before you can do it. You can't tap while they're ringing up your stuff anymore.

Chevron's only really doing it inside so far. There are a few that have it at the pump though. I think I've only run into one Chevron that didn't have it at all.

Costco just recently got chip and pin and looks like they put in antiquated cheapest equipment they could find.
I hate Costco... they always want to violate my personal property when I leave at the door (ie. my purchases I just paid for therefore are my property).

OH NO! They might see all the food you bought! That's private information, that could be used against you! Give me a break... They just want to make sure you aren't stealing THEIR property.

I've not been that impressed by it to be honest, it's still more convenient to pull out my card and use contactless (up to $100 in Australia). I do however like that it just integrates into existing contactless POS systems so that retailers don't explicitly have to accept "Apply Pay", just whatever your card is.

I still don't like them. Anyways let's move on in this thread - wish I never brought this up LOL.

Why in the world would you patronize a company that acts the way you claim? That makes no sense. At anytime you can choose to stop shopping at Costco. They'll even refund your membership fee. Why not just do that so you can be happy?

FWIW, I've been shopping at Costco for several decades and have never once felt like I've been disrespected. It's a first-class organization.

You're lucky Australian cards have Contactless, They took out all of our Contactless Card options when they rolled out Chip & PIN, and the banks literally say "Just use your phone for contactless!" (Yes our contactless terminals can take the australian contactless cards too, if you don't want to wave your iPhone at them, because as you said, the protocol is the same and things just work in typical Apple fashion.)

Gotta make back their investment in infrastructure for Apple somehow. In seriousness though, Americans really were paranoid about the tap cards so I doubt banks would be able to bring them back on a widespread basis without people really flipping out.

That said, my AmEx has chip and can be tapped.

As luck would have it, I actually DID get to use it yesterday for the first time picking up a birthday present at Toys R Us. Worked as advertised - no signature needed. (was under $30 FWIW)

So I've heard. But I almost never need or want to go inside. Using Apple Pay at the pump would be very convenient, especially if I didn't have to enter my ZIP code, as I do when I use a credit card.
