I believe this is what distinguishes stores that support Apple Pay over stores that just support NFC. Stores that officially support Apple Pay treat your fingerprint as your signature

Nope, Wegman's still makes you sign if you go over $50.

Your mileage may vary, depending on the country and state you are in. In the US, the merchant generally has no right to stop you unless they suspect you of theft.

However, they don't have the right to search you (including your most recent purchase), unless security is a sworn police officer, and he/she has an suspicion you have committed a crime. It can't just be a "you look shady" suspicion: he/she has to have some evidence, observation, or witness to a crime.

Costco is an exception, because you must sign a membership agreement to make a purchase there. Buried in the membership agreement is a clause in which you agree to a bag search when exiting.

A merchant MAY also be able to do a bag search f they post a big sign at the entrance that says you are subject to a bag search on exit, and that you agree to it by entering the premises. But, I'm not sure that's ever been tested in court.

Mmm. No. We are protected against search and seizure. I can simply walk out and they can't do anything about it.

It doesn't vary on "what state" you live in, it's enforced by the federal government and supreme court.

They absolutely do not have any right to stop me. I don't care if they type it in a document that I sign, which that part would technically and automatically be void because it's unlawful. I'm not sure why you're typing fallacies on the boards.

Why is this news when Apple Pay was introduced over a year ago? As of now in FL most retailers still do not accept it.
Because some of us (using Macs since 1986) could not figure how to use the darn thing. I did not want to be that jerk at starbucks trying to use apple pay holding up the line, when just a swipe with plastic works now. Thank you for the video, apple

Where in the world are you and how the heck do you sign?
Northern VA. Most of the terminals are verisign or some other type terminal that also supports legacy card swipes and all have signature capability. You sign with their pen on screen. I put a dot if it will take it or a straight line otherwise.

Well that's dumb. The technology is there for the machine to distinguish physical cards from contactless payments, so it makes sense to treat your fingerprint as a secure signature. I'm sure we'll get to that point eventually.

In my opinion anyways, Wegmans hasn't updated their terminal software yet to take advantage of their future payment technologies.

Also, in my opinion, I believe they will update their software for not only EMV, but for Apple Pay recognition and Apple Pay + Loyalty card recognition at the same time.

I love using AP w/ my AW. Only problem is only an infintesimal number of stores I shop at are set up for NFC. The ones that do take it like Whole Foods and Walgreens I only go into occasionally. I'm not sure why most grocery stores haven't signed up yet. Payment is a real pinch point in grocery lines. You'd think they'd be jumping on it.

The benefits of using Apple Pay with Apple Watch are more evident when compared with dip transactions on a chip card. Those take a long time.

Something else I like about AP/AW is that it works without my wallet and without my phone. And it works on my iPhone 5s :)

Give us a 4" iPhone that supports Apple Pay!!! Not everyone wants a two-handed 4.7" phablet.

You probably already know but, just in case, you can use Apple Pay in your iPhone 5s (I think also 5, not 100% sure), if you couple if with your Apple Watch. I do it every day at Peets (our coffee branches), WholeFoods and our local grocery store - CVS, our Pet Store, and others say "very soon", but still waiting...
