I love Macs and OS X, but still see no reason to upgrade my iPhone 3GS. It's a leash and I don't need a better leash.

_IF_ you're being serious, then you really have no reason to upgrade. I'm on an iPhone 4, running iOS 7.x and it gets me by just fine, but I'm starting to feel its age and lack of performance.

Live Photos are brilliant.

Recently my mother passed away unexpectedly and I had a photo of her holding my 11 month old son, the photo is just a nice photo but then when pressed it reveals that she kissed his head just before. lovely for adding a touch of feeling to a photo.

a week later it was also my wedding, the photos our numerous friends took really capture the vibe of the day (plus some of the action on the dance floor in the evening!!).

Two great examples of why Live Photos really are the next thing.

Perhaps apple should focus on how they can make Live Photos seem more personal to their customers.

Although, I do like this ad.

I thought this ad was for iPhone 6s video, not until I read the headline , did I realise it was live photo. For me it's just short videos, and easier to shoot in video mode ... In 4K

I just wanna say I really like Live Photos, they add an extra bit of atmosphere to every photo you take and I love looking through my photos now and watching them move. Even better when you go through them on your own and can hear the sound.

People saying 'just take a video' are missing the point. My friend told me it's the best thing about his new 6s.

If you are serious, then you really have no reason to have a smart phone at all.......belive me, the difference between no smart phone and an IPhone 4 is very close than the difference between an IPhone 4 and an Iphone 6s :)

Live Photos are great. If you do not like Live Photos, don't use the feature, point.

And especially that they do NOT look like a video give them that special thing....cannot describe it....i for myself really like them.

Hello there. Bruce Turner here. I must say. I'm really impressed with these innovative new Live Photos on my 6S. It must be great one day having these live photos printed out in years hence and seeing them move around in true Harry Potter style. Or maybe on a iPhone 4 or 5? Or other phones or tablets? Just another reason why I'm pleased with my purchase.

What's that? You say you can only view them on the phone it was taken on or a similar spec iphone? Oh no! What was I thinkin'? It's just a gimmick then? But the advert made it look useful! Just wait 'til my missus finds out what I've gone and bought. . She's gonna kill me!

So this is the kind of "investment" that will impact on a better product experience, not SSD on base desktop models.

Your old DVD player won't play Blu-Ray discs. I don't know you your marriage survives.

^ Doesn't understand Live Photos.

I just don't fall for the reality distortion field like some. These are videos by definition. People like them and that's great. I personally don't see the point since the camera is already capable of recording video. The way I see it, if I wanted a video, even a three-second one, I would record a video at a much higher quality. But that's just me.

that's the exact point, it's not ABOUT filming a video. it's about capturing an u expected moment that a photo alone would not capture. Hidden gems within photos

They are videos, by definition - but taken at the same time as, and also attached - to a photo. The way you take then and also view them is different, and you also get a full res 12MP photo out of it too which isn't something you'd get by taking a video.

I'd define them as photos but with added depth. You don't shoot like you're shooting video (like you would with Vine or just plain shooting video), you take a picture like normal and the "live" bit just adds a little extra content to your photo.

I wonder how many of the people here who are ragging on Live Photos are actually photographers? By "photographers" I mean people who have adopted photography at least at a somewhat serious level, have a body or bodies of work, perhaps a website of their work, have done a project or two, etc Or even just making photos as a serious endeavor towards recording family memories. Not even talking about making a living from photography.

I suspect those that don't see the value of Live Photos have not adopted photography as a serious element of their life.

For those that don't "get it" or think it's a gimmick, or an Apple conspiracy to sell phones with more memory, it's easy enough to turn off. Why worry about the little stuff that doesn't have any personal value and no bearing on your livelyhood?

Speaking for myself, who shoots regularly, often with a phone, I think it's a pretty sweet feature.

I've no idea who this guy is (clearly not a basketball fan) but I like the ad and Live Photos is fantastic. Everyone I showed it to agrees that it captures memories much better than stills.

And it looks especially cool when I use it as a watch face on my Apple Watch.

Too bad the ability to share outside the circle of 6S* users is so limited.
For me that is precisely why I consider Live a total letdown.

Still just looks like a short vine to me.

You can't talk about moving pictures and call it a photo.

I think anyone watching this at home who hasn't watched an apple press event will just think this is an ad about making a movie (and they wouldn't be wrong).

That's exactly what my issue is with the ad. If you know about the feature, then it makes sense. Otherwise, it looks like Apple is advertising that their phones can record short choppy videos.

(And that ad shows the complexity of decent live photo shots. The video was cool and the photo itself is boring. I always either have that issue or the opposite).

Unexpected....like a half-court basketball shot?

I agree totally. I'm having a lot of fun with live photos and can see the benefits. I just don't get the ad since it doesn't give context to what the phone is doing (just looks like it's shooting video). However, the feature has been really fun with our kids.
