Apple today shared a new ad that's meant to highlight the Dolby Vision HDR video capture, editing, and playback available on the new iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max.

The video features a series of people using their iPhone 12 Pro devices to capture video content with a variety of camera rigs and equipment to simulate different angles while getting creative, movie-like video shots. "The only camera to shoot in Dolby Vision," reads the video's tagline.

Both the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max support Dolby Vision HDR video recording at up to 60 frames per second, while the iPhone 12 and 12 mini support the feature at up to 30 frames per second.

IMO, it is the Best New Feature in the iPhone 12 family.

And here, I am ONLY referring to the Capture / Recording aspect of it.

Editing needs to be done on a much BIGGER display than what ANY iPhone offers !

Preferably a Mac connected to a BIG screen TV via an HDMI cable.

Not to get cynical immediately, but two questions
1. Was this ad shot completely on an iphone 12? (be cool if it was but doubtful)
2. If you've got a buget for mics, light rigs, miniatures, horses, do yourself a favor and pick up a used EOS or A7iii, even a gopro for under $1k.

I mean, I get the ad, gonna get some peeps into filmmaking but still...

I've taken some great videos of Autumn scenery with my new 12, unfortunately there is not much support for the amazing quality elsewhere.

They look great on the phone.

Shame that they don’t actually play in Dolby Vision when using AirPlay to my 2020 LG CX OLED. Don’t see how I’m meant to watch them
Oh, so LG doesn't support the 8.4 Dolby Vision that Apple has implemented? The Verge mentioned that it's a fairly new standard within a...standard. Let's hope LG will eventually update their TVs. I'm currently using an LG C9 so that screen is really the only way for me to appreciate Dolby Vision content, with the exception of the phone itself.

I see your point, but it’s looking too deeply into the meaning of the ad. All Apple wants to do is inspire someone to dream bigger. With their phone, of course.

Selfies and home pr0no right?

Is porn done in Dolby Vision HDR these days?

What a truly remarkable age of technology we live in.

An iPhone is superior to a GoPro IMO

I really liked that they weren’t using super expensive equipment or lenses attached to make the video they were shooting. Was kinda like, I can do that, too! LOL. Cute video all in all.

Exactly! So many people get caught up in lusting after the best gear. And really, it's about imagination and vision, which can often be realized with less, with a bit of thought.

This is like the GoPro commercials where everyone is jumping off mountains and doing backflips on their BMXs with $10k worth of gear from REI, when in reality the vast majority of their cameras are sold to buyers who have watched so many episodes of the Masked Singer they've left an imprint in their sofas.

Don't know. Ask the guy who has multiple dedicated cameras but now shoots on iPhones
