I was thinking the same - from that animation it could be more 'Aqua 2.0' than the dull grey of VisionOS. I'm a little worried about legibility though. Dare I say Microsoft tried to go full-glass with Vista and quickly regretted it. Hopefully Apple learnt some lessons from their failures.
That was the beauty of choice, Vista and 7 had two other style for those who hated glass: basic and classic. You were not forced to shut up and put up with it

OH MY GOD THEY'VE GOT VISION PRO CONTACTS ALREADY

AND THEY CAN TELL YOU WHICH MONTH IT IS

I always loved Aero glass from Windows Vista/7, and while I didn't have a Mac at the time (my first Mac was a Late 2013 MacBook Pro with Mavericks, which was very quickly updated to Yosemite), I really liked the look of Aqua, too. If the UI looks like glass, I am all for it. I hate flat design, and I hated it ever since iOS 7/Windows 8 the entire time.

Lets look in my glass ball what this actually means….

Hopefully the iOS19(26?) Developer Beta won't be as bad as the first few iOS7 DBs.

The first one practically melted my iPhone 5, haha!!

Apple: We lied about our technological capabilities regarding Apple Intelligence, and have increasingly introduced more and more bugs on our platforms.

Also Apple: Everyone look over here! Look how shiny it is! Don't worry about how far behind we are, look at how cool the glass is!
Yet every day we see stories of AI making stuff up in official processes, ignoring instructions, etc.

No one is “ahead” in AI because transformer LLM models are a dead end multi trillion dollar scam that will NEVER deliver the results these firms are promising with “AGI”.

Gotta prop up that bubble though…

It’s all trash, and it’s going to bite everyone but the oligarchs who are pushing for it…hard.

As for the new UI, if I could dig up my post from the introduction of AVP I stayed plainly that day that the vision UI would be the main UI all of Apple’s products coalesce around going forward.

Not much of a choice though. With “Basic” you gave up the hardware accelerated interface altogether, offloading it to the CPU and got back all the downsides that come with it. Like window tearing previous Windows versions suffered from. On top that third-party Windows apps tend to look pretty horrible probably because of all those different legacy interfaces.

macOS has a “reduce transparency” option for a while now which doesn’t disable the hardware acceleration for interface rendering.

Alright, point taken. Implementation of it might have not been the best at the time, but it still was a choice.
