Pointing out how the iPhone doesn’t let you do stuff like sideload apps ignores the inconvenient truth that said feature simply doesn’t matter to the majority of smartphone users, be they on iOS or Android.
That's not the point. I could care less if 99% of users don't. But I do, and that's what matters most to me.

At the end of the day, users are not going to miss what they don’t need. Bury your heads in the sand all you want. You cannot deny what is to come.
Ooh spooky, I'll go grab my tinfoil hat

If I switch to iPhone:
Will my purchases from the Google AppStore transfer over?
Can I bring my older 32 bit apps over to the iPhone?
Will I have RTS text message capability?
Can I side load apps from third-party developers?
Can I expand the storage by inserting a SD card?
Does the iCloud storage match the storage capacity of the iPhone?
Can I load apps from my computer?
Am I able to download apps from my iPhone to my computer?
Will my Google earbuds have full functionality on my iPhone?
Does the iPhone have under the screen fingerprint sensor?
Does the iPhone have 50 megapixel camera?
Can I use my existing USB-C charger on my iPhone?
How well does the iPhone sync with my Windows 11 computer?
Will I still be able to airplay from my iPhone to my Google Chromecast devices?
Am I able to load antivirus on my iPhone?
What kind of dongles do I need to purchase for my iPhone that I don’t need for my android device?
And my answer to all of those points:

You can't create a new world order without first doing away with the current one.

So take my hand. I cannot promise you heaven, but I will be here with you every step of the way. As with any platform shift, there will always be the costs involved with transitioning. From the moment you get your first iPhone, to the Apple Watch and AirPods, to signing up for Apple One, to purchasing an iPad (replete with magic keyboard and Apple Pencil), to rounding it off with the new M2 MBA. Oh, and throw in a couple of watch bands for good measure.

I am not saying it won't suck, and I am not saying it will be cheap, but I am saying that it will all be worth it in the end.
That's not the point. I could care less if 99% of users don't. But I do, and that's what matters most to me.
Of course an advertisement is not going to reach out to 100% of viewers. Of course there are people who don't like, or who will never be caught dead with an iPhone for one reason or another. Making it sound like Apple is somehow doomed, or that said ad is somehow an abject failure just because it doesn't apply to you or some other random Macrumours user again just misses the point at the end of the day.

And that point, once again, is that Apple is clearly having success in courting android users to switch over to iOS, based on advantages like the strength of their ecosystem and their emphasis on features like better privacy. And as Apple continues to round out their ecosystem, I expect the rate of "switchers" to continue to climb more rapidly.

This is something I do not see being addressed in the comments, and I feel it's the shame the comments have not progressed beyond the extremely superficial "but can the iPhone do X" snide remarks.

And it's a trend I will continue to be watching with keen interest in the near future. Together with people who buy iPhones in the 2nd hand market (who add to active users but whose sales don't get captured by Apple), it doesn't take a genius to see how the iPhone is like a snowball that is slowly but surely gaining mass and momentum with each passing moment, completely steamrolling all in its path.

Fun times ahead. 😊

So that's what you think those comments are about? That's cute.

Can you provide a source for that?

This is something I do not see being addressed in the comments,
We're talking about a video ad, not the entire history of Apple marketing.

and I feel it's the shame the comments have not progressed beyond the extremely superficial "but can the iPhone do X" snide remarks.
Just because you don't like those comments, doesn't mean they are superficial. Besides, seeing many comments like that just shows it's a somewhat requested feature.

Fun times ahead. 😊
For sure.

Can you provide a source for that?
It's a recurring theme in the last few earnings reports.

Cook mentioned that the company had a record number of users upgrading to newer iPhone models, while the rate of users switching from Android to iPhone was also high.

“We had a record level of upgraders during the quarter and we grew switchers, strong double digits,” Apple CEO Tim Cook told CNBC’s Steve Kovach. “It’s clearly a strong cycle,” Cook said.

“We had a record level of switchers and saw double digit growth for customers new to iPhone,” Cook said.

At this point, it's not a question of whether people will buy the iPhone, but whether Apple can make enough to sell.

Like Memoji avatars?

Oh wait, you have one in your profile picture!

I also wrote that message from a MacBook Pro, and then replied from an iPhone... What's your point? I can have Apple products and still call them out on their bulls--t or hold them accountable.

Just like I have iCloud for the single reason that it works well with my Apple devices, but I will be the first to admit it is the worst cloud service out there.

Maybe Apple should have included the estimated cost of transitioning besides the iphone cost.

No, I mean, they only designed their own CPU and such small things..

I would argue that bringing their chips in-house was a total operational play. There is nothing innovative about creating your own CPU so that you don't have to deal with supply chain, supplier negotiations, price hikes, and the fact that your suppliers for chips are also providing chips to your competitors, etc.

And despite the marketing, the apple chips are not better than existing chips in the market. At least, not according to many benchmarks. Of course, you get into the arguments about whether the benchmarking software was designed to take advantage of the 'innovations' that exist Apple's chips, blah blah blah. To be fair, I would wager than the M1 and M2 chips are better in some areas, worse in others, and on-par in most cases.

And it's also a perfect example of my original point. They take existing technology and try to perfect it. It's not like they invented some brand new type of chip. They waited, watched, and decided the time was right to bring the existing technology in-house.

That's not innovation, they just like to have 'end to end control', to quote someone that used to work at Apple.

First, define successful. I am never buying another iPhone that is larger than my 13 mini, yet it is going away so I only like features that are unsuccessful? But still, Apple made millions of dollars off the 12/13 mini. Not successful enough for you?
Second, why does switching to an iPhone have to be because something about it is "successful"?

Your "Apple is the only one on the top tier" colors are showing.
The truth hurts.

Apple isn't going to enter such a niche market. 🤷‍♂️

How many of those things will actually matter? 🤣
signing up for the “iOS experience” ( will never Have the freedom , ever again) has it’s short comings. And it’s not your place to doubt how people feel about this os.
I have every right to question people. Your definition of "freedom" is wrong.
greed really has no end does it? they have like 40% of users yet they want more.
What does that have to do with money (and thus, greed)? The goal of every company is to grow. There's never a point where a company wants to stop growing.
You are.

Care to read my last messages again and find out... or send another one of your pictures again if you find that enjoyable.
Again, I'm not. You haven't presented an actual argument to me.

Why are you torturing yourself then? Switch to Windows/Android and be done with it. :)

It goes both ways... ;)

And regardless of which way you go, it'll be worth every single penny.

It’s amazing the amount of Android trolls that still watch for threads like these. They still haven’t grown up, it’s pretty sad.

And before you get your Superoos in a bunch, my first smart phone was a Droid X, then the Thunderbolt and back and forth between Motorola and Samsung for years. The X is where I learned how to root and customize. I designed animated boot screens, wallpapers and you name it. It was so much fun. Just as much fun as the Android users still have today.

But I’ll tell you what, when I made the switch, I sure didn’t start trolling Android sites looking to cause trouble. Or give the whole “golly, how long has Android had that” posts. I made the move because I was curious and found iPhones fit me better. And I have had Android devices since, it just didn’t last long.

Obviously the switch isn’t for some of you, that’s okay. But why not stay on sites willing to cater to your childish behavior. I love a joke as much as anyone else, and trust me, I’ve made plenty at Apples expense. But a troll is a troll and you know who you are. Grow up 👊😙👍

Man, you just brought me back to my Moto Droid (OG)! I stood in line for that thing! Rooted it, etc., so good. Not as good as my iPhones, but it was so fun back in the day.

Right?!? My brother and I stood in line at midnight for the Droid X release. Such fun times. But am very happy where I’ve landed.
My wife made me switch. I would go through a repeatable process. Start with stock android. Get mad at it. Decide the key is to root it and make changes. Do that. Deal with issues for a week figuring it out when she potentially can't get a hold of me. Finally get it working. Still have issues. Finally go back to stock. Sell, try new device.

I may be bored with my iPhones, but that is because they just work.

I'm not doing either of those things. Do you have an actual argument?

Watching a YouTube video is too much for them.

Bring it on for Android, not iOS, thank you very much.

Not that I remember of, no.

Wake up! It's 2022! ;)

No, I assume it's common sense that you can just purchase one for a couple of bucks. 🤷‍♂️

In what world is that true? If anything, the average experience is quite the opposite.

Yes, exactly. Some people just don't get it... 🤦‍♂️

I assume it'd be more comparable if the background listening service was turned off on the Android smartphone.
Any phone with an assistant enabled is always listening. This includes iPhone with Siri and google phones with google assistant. guessing it takes slightly more processing power to identify a song vs identifying "hey siri", but the new phones with their new chips are pretty good with power management.

Wake up! It's 2022! ;)
Read my post again "...Go and buy a decent DLSR or mirrorless..." They are both great. Just because the bulkier DLSR's are being superseded by the more compact mirrorless, doesn't mean they aren't still just as good. Mirrorless have caught up and are smaller, that's all.

For professional photographers, in situations such as portrait photography with the average Joe customer, DLSR's are still king, simply because they are bulky, and the customers have the perception that DLSR's are the best, and portrait photography is 90% psychology, and 10% technical. That perception will change soon enough, but for now, it still exists.

Regardless, wake up yourself, high end phone cameras are excellent where the conditions are perfect, such as good lighting, and no need for telephoto, or high frames per second etc. Otherwise they aren't even in the ballpark.

PS - I bought my first mirrorless, and swath of high quality lenses years ago, if you must know, Mr Smart Pants.

The only evidence you've provided related to Android switchers is Tim Cook rhetoric. As far as I can tell, there wasn't a single quantifiable fact presented. "... number of switchers grew... number of switchers was high..." Generic rhetoric. There's no baseline number to use to make an honest comparison. Without actual facts - hard numbers - Cooks statements about switching amount to nothing more than marketing.

One example is Vo2 max numbers will disappear for weeks and the only option is factory reset. Then the GPS randomly doesn't record the routes. Music on the Apple Watch will drop or skip. Bluetooth to non-Apple devices will drop randomly for no reason. The cellular connection is never active when it should be on both AW3 or 7. The AW has just been a mess over the years in my use. The GW has not had these issues yet.

But I know you won't listen, applogize to Tim Cook for me, and continue to worship Apple. Critisism of Apple products seem like breaking a holly commandment around here. God forbid another product might be GASP better!
Lol. You were giving a good response until your last paragraph. Not sure why you would waste your time and credibility with such childishness.

Thanks for the response, I appreciate your details. That is all I wanted, I havnt had any problems with my AW so I was curious what your issues were.

Funny, I was at a friends house, he just got Galaxy ultra 2022, my iPhone 11 was working faster and better, side by side.

On the same wifi network, his Spotify kept pausing and crashing, YouTube 4k was stuttering.

My 2019 phone, works better them the top offering from Samsung.

I use my Apple Watch exclusively, for payments. I leave my wallet at home.
He gave up trying to use his galaxy watch for payments, because of reliability.

The iPhone just works.
So does the Apple watch.
Yeah but for some reason your not allowed to say that.

Luckily for us your argument won't make sense once the DMA/DSA finally kicks in and we'll be able to access browser engines and emulators.
So the DMA/DSA is going to FORCE people to buy Apple, and then consequently FORCE Apple to cater to the every demand of these FORCED consumers? Lol, or at least I sure hope you are joking.

That's from years of irritating replies anytime I mention a potential bug. It must always be my gross incompetence or a must be a beginner because Apple doesn't make a mistake. The reality is the products are not as polished as they once were. When I brought back my AW3 for the v02 max issue after it already being swapped out, the Apple store employees could not comprehend that the software might be faulty. Even after their own support documents mentioned its known to happen and the factory reset is the resolution. Almost everyone I talked to about it thought I was being unreasonable not accepting a factory reset every 30 days. Everyone seems to have blinders on when it comes to Apples software quality control. In the 90s/00s I was probably the biggest Apple fan boy you could ever meet. Today I am disappointed constantly by buggy software and the joke that is the Apple Store and Apple Support. The Apple Watch is probably the most frustrating and disappointing Apple product I have ever owned. Even the AW7 has issues. I'll go for a walk without the phone and it never connects to cellular. Apple store says carrier issue...happened on 3 different carriers. It's a trash product...great hardware....software is worse than NewtonOS 1.0

That’s quite a list. Good thing nobody here cares if you switch or not

Please, stay right where you’re at

If I switch back to any Android device I want:

Do I finally get to enjoy the next 6 years worth of updates on that same device?

Right? That update struggle is real. Do I also get to guarantee no apps from my carrier? And that I can remove anything I want? That used to be easy. Root used to be easy...not any more.
