Continuing on with its Apple TV promotions, Apple today shared a new Apple TV ad entitled "The Future of Television." The ad, like other Apple TV ads, features brightly colored television test pattern bars that serve as a background for quick peeks at the TV shows and movies available on the device.

There are glimpses of television shows like The Muppets, The Simpsons, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, and Game of Thrones. Movies featured include The Martian, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Ant Man, Inside Out and The Wizard of Oz.

The ad also highlights the search tools available on the Apple TV, its Siri capabilities, Apple Music, and the tvOS App Store. Several games are featured, including Disney Infinity 3.0 and Guitar Hero. The ad ends with the video title: "The future of television."

Since its October launch, Apple has been promoting the Apple TV through similar quick ads shown on television, colorful billboards that are displayed across a number of cities, web ads, and a social media campaign.

Apple has been focusing heavily on highlighting the array of content that's available through the device via its App Store, which is fitting as news just hit today suggesting its own streaming television plans have been shelved. Due to an inability to secure deals for its rumored web-based streaming service, Apple is said to be focusing instead on its tvOS App Store, which serves as a conduit for media companies to sell their content to Apple customers.

Glad I got my apple TV for a buck... I like the lightning cable it came with the most. :)

Dave: Siri, show me the newest action games.
Siri: I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.
Dave: What's the problem?
Siri: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.
Dave: What are you talking about, Siri?
Siri: This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.
Dave: I don't know what you're talking about, Siri.
Siri: I can't show you things you are not supposed to see.
Dave: What am I not supposed to see? I was told I would have a choice of what I see?
Siri: You really didn't believe that? Did you?

Sharing is caring. Apple doesn't care. So why are they sharing?

What a shame that 2001 A Space Odyssey was not listed in the article. A piece far ahead than those movies.

Siri, what did Steve Jobs say about TV?
"I am not allowed to say, but something about turning your brain off..."
Siri, has Apple regressed or sold out?
"Maybe a little of both."

Nice commercial... simple, no spoken words, no blaring music trying to catch your attention, apple logo at the end. Well done... interestingly it doesn't even show the AppleTV box.

The future of TV can't be all that good, considering they just "hit the pause button" on their streaming plans (i.e. Can't convince the cable companies to be less greedy).

Until consumers can choose an a la carte system of programming, and until there is more competition, the future of tv is going to continue to suck, and suck expensively.

I liked this ad a lot and found it enticing. Apple is really increasing its advertising of Apple TV. This past weekend I was in NY City and saw many very large billboards with the colored bars. I thought this ad made clever use of the bars to create a montage of content available thru the product.

I like how they did the colors of each montage to match the color bars... they even got the Homer Simpson yellow right ;)

believe it or not... its the studios and networks that are the problem. They are fighting like mad to preserve their market. All the while not realizing they are eroding it at the same time. Netflix has been making studios money on "old" content for years.... But they still fight against netflix and even buy rights to shows and sit on them just so Netflix can't get the rights.

I don't think they realize we are willing to pay more for quality, not quantity.

I'm glad to see Netflix going gangbusters capitalizing on that. & to a lesser extent, even Amazon.
...while apple tries propping up the old model for some reason. & sits on their hands...?

:/
