They should have kept it a theater and renovated it instead of turning it into an Apple store.
Wasted space and Apples future into holding on to all these fancy store fronts to sell their items seems costly and unsure future. No more Genus Bar soon probably with un upgradable computers.

No one has stepped up to keep it a theater and there are more theaters in the area to renovate to turn into a theater if someone wanted to

Just look what is close-by the Apple Theater store, it's another theater that is a retail store that is a real waste of historical use

Downtown may still be rough around the edges (to say the least), but east of downtown, the rejuvenated "Arts District" is nothing less than amazing. What was no-mans-land a few years ago is now a thriving, booming neighborhood, with brand new housing, shops and restaurants. All it takes is a spark and some money and neighborhoods can change.

The west side of Manhattan went from "Hell's Kitchen" to "Chelsea" in a matter of a few years. I grew up in New York and remember when 42nd Street was too seedy to drive down, let alone walk. Investment by Disney, among others, changed all that. Disney did something similar in Hollywood when they restored the historic El Capitan theatre. Here's hoping Apple's investment in downtown LA is equally transformative.
Gotta deal with the massive homeless problem first before anything can be transformative in DTLA. That's a tall order beyond corporations.

Who is they. And are they willing to spend the many tens of millions of dollars to rehabilitate it and bring it up to current commercial building codes as Apple has done. And what is "they" going to do with the theater afterwards?

Apple has collaborated with the local community, leading preservationists, and artists to "thoughtfully preserve and restore the theater’s beauty and grandeur."

Just to house an Apple store? What a disgrace.

Why is it a disgrace?

You'd be fine with another almost 100 years of decay? Where at some point the city would be required to demolish it?

Still, it's a waste of such a beautiful theatre hall. It's sad to see that the city of LA doesn't want to use such a lovely place for cultural things.
Yes it would be great to use this as a theater but this street has the highest concentration of historic movie palaces in the world! 12 counting the Tower. There is the fabulous Los Angeles theater, the million dollar theater, the palace, the Orpheum, and the Ace among others. Great remnants of the single venue theaters. Hard to make cultural uses of all of them.

It look very classy, like an art museum. Which is fitting, since Apple products are considered works of art.

Beautiful. Too bad is downtown LA. That area is so bad with all the homeless and crime. Hopefully, it can get better.
I was in LA a few weeks back and oh my. Venice and certain areas in Downtown are really in a sad state.
Imagine what LA was like back when the theater was going full swing.

How sad what happened, and it's getting worse.

Last time i was there was in 2003, and it was really bad by euro standards. How much worse can it possibly be?

What an immense waste for a gadget store.
Well, given that it was laid to waste and was likely going to be destroyed, I'm glad it was preserved. Watch The Proper People on YouTube (respectful urban explorers with beautiful cinematography) sometime to see how many of these beautiful theaters all around the country are rotting away into piles of garbage. It's really sad and seeing stuff like this makes me happy and hopeful that we can preserve our history a bit better, even if it is repurposed.

All the white and the fancy architecture is just giving me unnerving "interior of a Mormon temple" vibes. I suppose it's perfect if you're an Apple Evangelist.
