I wonder how compelling Portrait Mode is because most people post selfies to brag about where they are at. "Look at me at this restaurant!" "Look at me on vacation!" "Look at me at this bar!"

I suppose it's good for people with really messy apartments, though.

The iPhone I had the issue with was 3 years ago...but Apple slowing down iPhones was news last December mate

Where did you find a download that you trust?

XDA, APKmirror, GitHub

They are often as trustworthy as downloading the app directly from the Play Store.
Not to mention Play Protect scans for malicious behavior any app I install, even if it's from outside the official store.

Could be. Especially if you're really looking for professional results one would expect with a couple of lights and modifiers, and made by a professional portrait photographer with many years of experience.

I think most who like to make casual photographs of their friends and relatives will be happy with the results, knowing they have neither the skill or equipment to produce the above.

Maybe it's just from years of shooting I see the flaws in rendering so much more.
