Funny how things come back to haunt you Apple.

I bit disingenuous you are Joseph, or naïve. Remember that the whole world is the back yard of Microsoft windows OS, (at the time) representing approximately 95% of the market.

It was natural for Apple to remind the viewers that any CPU you bought came fully loaded of all kinds of crap and bloated software -not need to tell you, you probably know. We have the terrible blue screen, and on and on, and on.
Apple brought the fresh idea with nicely tailored adds explaining that MacOS was and still is more advanced, based in UNIX, free of bloatware software and easier to work with. So, nothing came to haunt Apple, only the fears of Microsoft that, betraying his present clients, is setting their “own “walled garden to compete based in half truths. And fallling behind

I like how the video pointed out that companies like twitter, google, facebook, youtube are not just trying to advertise to you they are trying to influence your decisions. Why should a bunch of tech billionaires have so much influence over our lives and what we are presented with?
Laughable since Apple is the king of corporate speak, imaging and presenting things the way they wanted them presented, rather than reality.

And so it begins, 100% FREE Ad-based apps will soon go the way of the DoDo Bird !

NO ONE, & I mean NO ONE, including those INSIDE Apple, have ANY clue as to how this will play out !

ALL I can say is that 100% FREE Ad-based apps will (soon) completely disappear from the App Store !

Oh well.

Apple believes we should have a choice according to the ad above ... so can I choose to download apps from a browser like I can on a Mac?
yes you can download a web app from any browser available on your iOS device, always have been able to .

I love the new prompt but I don't like this ad.

The ad makes it sound like apps will not be able to perform some of their functions if you opt out of tracking. It sounds like there could be a penalty if you choose "don't track". Which is not true.

The ad should be clearer and instead say: "if you opt out, apps will behave in the same way, as they can still access all the data they need to function properly, but they won't be able to sell this data to third-parties and profit from it anymore."

It is important that people know that by choosing "don't track" they will not give up any functionality and that, while there is a choice to be made, the only choice that makes sense is "don't track" (unless you prefer to have personalized ads at the expense of your privacy).

I don’t think the answer is to hide ourselves. But let us participate in the equal share of this money that I 1000% helped you make. Send checks payable to me directly. That’s the future. Tik Tok is informing, sharing bit sized info. NFT’s are the future of transactions and shared wealth, and our digital fingerprint should be equitably beneficial to me. If I helped 500 people join FB, pay me. If I garner 500 likes on an ig post and it’s shared 400 times. Pay me. My shared content brought YOU advertising revenue that was never possible without me. PAY ME. That’s the future.
But you are getting paid. You using the app for free is your payment. The infrastructure to run those platforms costs money, and your ad revenue partially goes towards that. Other platforms like YouTube actually do pay you depending on how many watches you get.

They could offer to pay us for our data……

Anybody else not getting the ATT prompt? None of the apps I KNOW are tracking me are prompting me. I have the toggle on in privacy settings for them *to* ask. Not happening on my iPhone or iPad. What's the deal?

Privacy for consumers has been a waning privilege in the tech-social media world for the last 5 years, it’s nice to see Apple not only exposing consumers are being tracked, but they actually executed a feature to help combat tracking. This is a huge step in the right direction.
I worked for a direct mail company more years ago than I want to admit to. One of the services my employer offered was mailing lists. A company or a group or a campaign would pay to target people to receive or NOT receive their mailings. Five years ago doesn’t even scratch the surface of how long data firms have been compiling information on people. It wasn’t as detailed or thorough then as it is now but advertisers and businesses considered it so worthwhile that they made sure that once gathered they could sell it to others without needing your permission. It’s not required to be accurate either and data firms are under no legal requirements to let you see the information or correct it if it’s wrong. It may seem to be in their financial interests for the information to be as correct as possible but there were and are people and companies that these institutions didn’t care about and didn’t care if they took advantage of. And they made money off these situations by causing these people to get less favorable ratings so they paid more interest on loans and credit cards or needed to pay more money up front to buy things like houses or cars.

Good I pay for quality. The free **** is trash 99% of the time. No one wants to work for free. If it’s free you are the product.

let’s be clear ... Free Apps, some are done well, genuinely free.
freemium with such restrictions that limit what you can do or explore about the app to the point that the fermium iOS app is not a description of what the app should be = pure garbage!!

I also pay for quality and a firm believer (within reason) you get what you pay for. Been using apps since S60, BBOS (Prior to 2007), Microsoft PocketPC-PE And have always paid for quality apps / games:

LonelyCatGames ProfiMail on S60 I must purchased 3x depending on the Nokia S60 I had n OS version that required a purchase.
file management apps - above company had a sister app that eventually was bundled,
Karateka - Mac OS system 7 and iOS 11 still have it - always willlove Noah for this classic if it’s updated.
Things!
Etc too many to mention.
banking and investment apps which are fully free because they facilitate movement of funds, are done very well for the most part.

freemium apps for learning - especially for coding of learning gets me vexed! Not the cost it’s the listing of Free and you cannot do anything until purchase. That’s a waste of my time and I don’t purchase I leave critical and mature feedback in hopes many others do to and such developers change their app to allow discovery not limitations at every turn.

it’s like you tubers now asking all viewers to Like, Subscribe, Ring The Bell At the beginning of the video: damnit EARN IT! You get nothing for free.

This video is really awesome, calm and well done.

Yes, you can. You can buy an Android phone. On iPhone the source of only the App Store for applications is a security feature of the platform and relying on the old install anything from anywhere (from back in the 80's) is way obsolete in todays security atmosphere. But Android is waiting for you if you don't want to subscribe to that point of view.
Don’t worry that guy is just waiting to walk up n down the mobile app street corner ready to turn in his next data trick! :) lol /s.

I think this is great. I don’t use social media but plenty of apps and sites share data with social media companies. Hell why should they get rich off me? And not pay me for it. Which brings me to the next question why can I not monetize my own data if I want to instead of say Facebook or Google doing it?

I don’t agree with you. They can still advertise without my data. Don’t be so dramatic.

Even if it were true... those “free” apps aren’t free...

and here you are thinking you know everything lol

you do realize this feature is largely about tracking right. It’s not necessarily against ads though as ads arent directed as a whole, it’s just the tracking you part they are implementing. And the good thing in regards to this is if some (or perhaps all free apps) have ads it’s not the ads you’d get as a result of tracking your data, can be random ads.

but I’m sure you forgot even Apple wants this to enhance the security, safety and privacy of they’re platforms so I know they know what they are doing more than you think they should be doing and I’m sure the “free app” section is still very relevant to Apple despite the new feature

This ad is perfect. Beautifully executed but definitely slanted toward “Ask App Not To Track”!

Um, so. I’d rather pay $1 or whatever the app is worth rather than having them make money off being a digital creepster!

Why? This doesn’t get rid of ads. This’s just getting rid of ads tracking. The advertisers can buy ads in the old way, you know, the way they did in the 90s.

Call me crazy, but, if I’m going to see ads I’d prefer targeted ones. Also, if it makes my life easier to track info between apps I’m ok with that too. So I plan to select “Allow”.
