There is very little reason to upgrade to newer models, smartphones have hit a tech. ceiling I guess. Incremental benefits won't let people buy $1000 cellphones yearly.

Apple is stupid if they thought they can sell 100M iphone forever every year, its called market saturation.

Sure, except apple sells over 200 Million iPhones a year not 100 million.

Got it. My opinion = wrong. Your opinion = right. I don't mind either way how Samsung is selling, I just expected better.

Or the fact that he has been claiming apple is doomed for so many years he didn’t notice Samsung tanking.

No but you opinion that "Samsung did poorly in terms of sales" is wrong. At least pay attention.

16 million iPhone XS Max > 2.1 million s10s+
I would say that the s10 did very poor in terms of sales.

Samsung did do poorly that’s why Samsung electronics operating profits is down across the board and Samsung mobile posted a 40% decline in operating profit.

Also Apple only increased prices. They didin't pivot anything.

Do you have a problem reading? the poster said they pivoted to wearables and services as well as increasing prices to take the lions share of the profit for the market.

It’s the post you quoted directly above yours.

Not so much a problem reading as just deleting most of the the post you quoted and asking the question again.

I've been claiming that?
Prove it.

Well you are wrong.
The S10+ actually sold better in the last month of Q1 2019 than the iPhone XS Max did in the entire quarter. This is the only relevant comparison as the S10 was not available to purchase in the last months of 2018 when generally the sales for electronics are at their highest level.

I'm not interested in profits and it's not the subject of this thread.
Profits go up and down all the time and Apple isn't doing anything special anyway so you should be careful with how much you try to to shove profits in everybody's face.

I delete what's irrelevant.

Yeah but you didn't give any plausible reasons for the numbers you expected so you are wrong, meaning that your claim about Samsung's doing poorly in terms of sales in Q1 2019 has no veridicity, deal with it instead of just wasting time with more irrelevant posts. I don't understand why you keep trying to defend an undefendable position.

Yeah because those are still growing business but it was nothing incredible.

I compared Apple numbers to Samsung numbers, first month sales vs first month sales. If that’s not plausible, I’m not sure what is. Yes, Services and Wearables are growing businesses, exactly what I said they pivoted to. For some reason, you are ignoring my point to fit your narrative. I’m glad the chart helped you understand that those businesses are growing at least.

I compared Apple numbers to Samsung numbers. Being that Apple isn’t innovating anymore, Samsung’s flagship phones should be selling more than Apple. They aren’t. Yes, they are growing businesses, exactly what they pivoted to. I’m glad the chart helped you understand that those businesses are growing at least.
Well Yes they are. Like I've said, for the one month the S10+ was available in Q1 2019 it sold better than the iphone Xs Max which is it's direct competitor. And this happened in the US, Apple's most favorable market.

Really? Can you screenshot some examples of what you are talking about?
I bet you can't.

You need to compare first month sales of each. You can’t compare first month sales of a Samsung flagship to sales of an iPhone that was released 6 months earlier. iPhones still sell better than any Samsung flagship, these are just facts. Everyone knows this.

Be serious. The comparison in Canalys's article is not fair to Samsung anyway.
The S10+ was only available for one of the 3 months of Q1 2019 and it sold better than the Xs Max which was available for 3 full months.
In the Q1 2019 the Xs and Xs Max were still at the beginning of their cycle, they weren't old devices nobody cared for. Everyone knows this.
You also made the general claim that as flagships you expected the S10 to sell better. But the S10 and Xs are not the only flagships so if your claim is correct you must have recent examples of other flagships besides Samsung's and Apple's that sold better in their first 2 months on availability in the US. Or you don't have something like this?

You seem to be changing the discussion. I think the article was mainly pointing out how well the XR did 6 months later against the just released S10. iPhone XS sales in their first month of release sold better than the S10 in their first month of release, that’s all I said. Even with an estimated 30% drop in sales, iPhone still sells best.

No, you made the generalist claim that the S10 sold poorly for a flagship phone. Thta's why I asked for examples of other flagships phone besides the iphone that sold better in their release months.

It's surprising to see how poorly the S10 sold given its release in the quarter.
Correct, I would expect a flagship phone to sell much more in its first 2 months.

Well of course US is Apple's home turf but Samsung did gain on Apple in terms of market share in the first quarter of this year.

Yes, and I did give my example, iPhone. I am not talking about other companies because iPhone is the only other high end flagship on the market that could compare to the S10. They still don’t sell as well as iPhone. For being as dominant as Samsung has been in the smartphone industry, I think that’s pretty poor. You may disagree, which is fine, but I gave you my reasonings.

I would expect sales of a new phone to be highest at launch. Do you have a citation for the sales of the s10+ vs the max?

Because there are no other companies to talk about so your general claim that S10 series sold poorly is incorrect.

They sold poorly compared to the iPhone, which in my eyes is the only fair comparison. If you want to compare it to a OnePlus or Huawei phone to make you feel better, have at it. I am not sure why this is tough to grasp, but I am going to move on.

You be serious. Neither Samsung nor Apple break out unit sales, let alone sales for specific models. These numbers are guesses and speculation. All of them.

Also, post your specific source and numbers you reference for XS Max and S10 Plus.

Both Samsung and Apple posted numbers consistent with a mobile phone slowdown. iPhone revenue was down 17% and Samsung Mobile posted a 40% operating profit decline. Apple still just sold over $30B in iPhones in 90 days. Comparisons are complex due to product release dates, mix, availability and other market conditions.

Very difficult to establish changing consumer Taste as far as which phone they prefer. More likely, it’s that people are not upgrading as often. Evidence is active device count for Apple is growing, not shrinking.

the xr unchecks so many boxes - display, weigh, inferior lte chipset ... thats just the start of an endless list

i love usa but people who cant afford an iphone shouldnt buy anymore - the xr is just a disgrace for all of us!

Completely agree. Bought two brand new XR’s for the wife and myself, neither phone will work on LTE. They are sending a replacement but I suspect a hardware issue so expecting same performance0.45 downloads. Wish I would have done more research before buying these. I have a two year obligation on a buy one phone get one free program. It’s obvious the Intel chip they used does not work. Apple is. It acknowledging a problem. Shameful. Never used android but I am buying one today. I won a tech company with many iPhones and Macs. Apple has lost my business. Shocked there is not a recall on these phones.

Horses for courses. I have a max, wife has an xr. We don’t have any issues with connectivity. Interestingly enough in my circle the max reigns supreme as far as the new iPhone purchase of choice.

Good luck with your future tech purchases.
