Am I the only person who really likes the design of the iPhone 5 C?

Nope - I'm a fan too. Obviously there are colors I wouldn't buy, but people have different tastes.

All-in-all, its a nice looking low-mid range phone (if leaks/rumors and renderings are true).

Yep I like it also. But I'll be getting the 5s.

All the goofy comments aside... this is great news for Apple and great for the shareholders. :)

Looking forward to next week.

Shareholders will really benefit in about 3 months when sales # are announced.

I just hope the lower cost 5C isn't a exclusive for China, with U.S. and other nations only getting the more expensive 5S.

While I'll most likely go with the 5S anyways there should be equality of options available for all nations.

I can actually see Apple making such a move, but I highly doubt it. There are plenty of us who would like a lower cost iPhone. :)

Nope, same here. Looks pretty good. Cannot wait to see it in person! :)

Folks... the marketshare % is about to take a drastic swing worldwide.

There will certainly be a larger customer base for Apple in China. No doubt!

But I also hear that only 138 million China Mobile customers are on 3G now. That's out of the total 700 million customers.

So while that 700 million figure sounds nice... Apple's addressable market on China Mobile is actually much lower.

And that's before you consider price.

I'd like to know just how many of those 700 million China Mobile subscribers can afford phones at $400+

Well amazingly enough the same thing has been said here about low income individuals and somehow they find the money (or do the subsidizing).

OK, now I think we know why Carl Icahn took a big stake in Apple. With more sales in China (and Japan with NTT DoCoMo reportedly getting the iPhone), the worldwide marketshare will go up.

Plus, the 5C hits a sweet spot in price in the States and Europe. Margins should be better than selling older iPhones at a discount.

Wall Street should be happy with this news.

i'm beginning to wonder that the iphone 5C was more of a demand from these chinese mobile carrier rather than worldwide demand.

either way, really want to know the 5C sales in the coming months

$400-500 means it's a midrange phone. On top of that it's pretty expensive for midrange

For comparison, the Lumia 520, which is the hottest budget smartphone in India, retails for about $160. Midrange phones like the Galaxy Core and Lumia 625 sell for $300

Marketshare will swing a little, but that Android dominated budget market is not going anywhere

I hope Apple didn't have to make a lot of concessions to get China Mobile. Because if you make concessions to one carrier the others will start demanding too. Last thing I want is AT&T and Verizon logos and bloatware on my phone.

Oh right... subsidizing.

I'm so used to hearing about non-US countries and their habit of paying full price for phones.

Thanks!

Even if they pull full price, say $250 for an Android or say $400 for an iPhone 5c, the $400 will go farther in the long term and resale.

$400 to $500?

:rolleyes:: $300 is my limit.
So no cell phone this year.

 ... Or perhaps an used iPhone 5.
Who knows?

There won't be daily updates here on exactly precisely which shade of gold these phones will be, and what the connector to their home button looks like. Talk about beating a dead horse into horse powder.

And we'll be able to move on complaints about screen size all day, everyday, yey!

Sure, but I don't see the Chinese buying into the closed iOS ecosystem as enthusiastically as they do with Android.

I think the iPhone will sell well, depending on price. But yes, we shall see.

I wonder about this too with the "everything is free Chinese Android store" they have.

...and one of the last strongholds/strangleholds of Android is about to fall.

The release of the 5C may decrease Android's market share to some extent, but I wouldn't say fall. The most recent Kantar numbers for China have Android 70.5% and iOS 22.4%, that is a big lead for Android. Interestly Android is more dominate over iOS in part of Europe that in China.

No, I like the colors too. But the massive China populace is mostly poor so unless the price is vastly lower than everywhere else this won't change much.

It looks like this is about to happen. Surely the 5C would cannibalize any 5S sales here and perhaps Apple doesn't want that to happen. I guess we'll get a glimpse of the 5C's profit margin once Apple announces what country it's sold in and if alongside the 5S.

It already had shifted in the US when T-Mobile finally got the iPhone 5 in the spring leaving Android in the USA no place to hide.

With the iPhone appearing on more and more carriers where Android has had exclusivity is going to bring their % tumbling down.

Can't wait for the analysts to try to spin this one.

Nobody truly knows how many Android Devices there are in China, because there are so many Android Handsets that don't have Google Play connectivity, so Google can't "see" them.

So this is how they're spinning it now... I'll need a source. I'm truly curious if Android manufacturer's don't actually track sales and instead rely on Google to "see" them by connecting to Google Play. That's a back-asswards way of doing things in my opinion.

Now, if you'd like to see which app store is "stronger" (or whatever), that'd be the right way to measure it. Android could argue that their store *could* be stronger if it weren't for some countries poor connections, if there even is a connection. But every OS/Manufacturer would suffer from this issue.

Let me see if I can find the source (of the rumors :D) but there has been whispers of 5C's shipped to US soil. I don't see Apple ever doing a region/country specific device.

Found it: "C Technology, which has been posting a number of photos of alleged iPhone 5C units, packaging, and manuals, has also claimed on its Sina Weibo account (via @MobilesPie) that 1.2 million iPhone 5C units were shipped to the United States yesterday. " MacRumors Article

The reasoning to some (mostly iPhone users/intelligent people :p jkjk) is that Android can be had for a ridiculously low price, especially in China. You skimp on quality, but that's not a choice of Google of course, that's the choice of the manufacturer. Leaving the final decision to the customer on whether to save money and have the features of a smart phone albeit a possibly ugly and slow phone.

Im betting the 5C is for china only. Perhaps this is what the C stands for.

India and other emerging economies will get them also. It looks like Apple is going to continue selling the 16GB 5 so either the 5C will not be sold here or the 5C is 8GB only (if you could get a 16GB 5C, why would you bother with a 16GB 5 ? ).

Of course the 5C will be available everywhere. Apple doesn't do region-specific products.
