Back to School?

http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08/05/29/sources_apple_planning_biggest_back_to_school_promo_yet.html

I think maybe they're shooting a commercial for their back to school promotion. That would seem about right, because apparently this is going to be the biggest year ever for their back to school discount program according to the article.

Unfortunately, I think this might be the most likely reason for the filming. I'd love to be wrong though.

THIS JUST IN...they are doing another TRUTH commercial against the tobacco companies...their slogan this time is...Don't smoke the pod.

This is your brain. (shot of large grey matter)

5 + 4 = Phone + iPod

Isn't that what the iPhone is? It was also initially released by Steve calling it a Phone and an iPod in one unit.

*sigh* I hope you were kidding

I don't remember any Apple commercials where they advertised anything other than a specific product. I might be mistaken though.

Man, as a videographer, I'd love to be on that crew. :)

"videographer" - Do you shoot weddings? I've never ever liked being called a videographer... ugh.

You're a shooter. That's what they call news guys. It's much Fing cooler.

Then again, I'm paid to produce these days... Last time I shot for cash was 5-6 years ago... Now I shoot for myself. End rant.

Sorry, no photos immediately available.

I can actually picture that commercial...and then just slap an Apple logo :apple: at the end of it...and some Feist music to it, throw in some white glossy shimmers...badabing badaboom, It's in the can.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the mysterious line that formed in front of the store a few days ago.

Maybe the store was able to accommodate fewer shoppers than normal, and thus create a line, because there were commercial pre-production people in the store scoping out the location to formulate the shoot.

No it's not, I posted a response to that on the 2nd or 3rd page. That line was formed because the iPhone was back in stock at the store and people were in line waiting to pick up one.

I BELIEVE THIS IS GOING TO BE AMAZING :)

anywho!
this may be just a diversion... & Apple could be doing some product sending underground?

with the help of WALL E XD

Well that was the way the story was explained away, but who exactly was the source of that information? I'm saying maybe that explanation wasn't really the truth. Apple wouldn't want the news getting out that an Apple commercial was going to be filmed there in a few days, otherwise there would've been all kinds of unwanted mobs out there.

Wall-E looks incredible, that is a must see midnight showing on my iCal!

Did anyone actually catch the film The Pixar Story? it was made the end of last year, and it was showed on Starz last month, Steve Jobs was in it, actually a lot of the film, he refers to Pixar as his baby that is growing to Infinity and Beyond.

funny catch phrase. I never saw that though...

Isn't this a near mirror of my post a page or two back?

I posted before I saw your response. Yes, it was a near mirror of your post. Every time I make it to a new page, there's already an additional page to read. I'm trying to read the whole thread through but I'm like "a page or two back." :D

Been there ... Done that ... No worries!

The truck outside in one of the pictures belongs to Panavision New York. Panavision makes 35mm film cameras that are used for big budget movies. So I think this may very well be something big (remember 1984). We'll see, but in order to shut down the flag ship store, I would bet this will be somrething big.

Hell, I'd rather be a focus puller than a videographer. Not to mention that it pays better.

You're spot on though. Every time I hear someone call themselves a videographer, I think of weddings, or some sort of amateurish endeavor.

Panavision uses a wide array of different camera systems...my best guess, they aren't using 35mm...but the typical Duigital HD Genesis Camera System that they use for mostly 95% of all their commercials. Unless it's a theatrical commercial....which I doubt.

Yeah, "videographer" does sound amateurish. Cinematographer or Director of Photography sounds better. :D

Oh, and it's pretty obvious the large black crates are just crates holding production gear.

I noticed that.

They don't just shoot big budget films. You can actually rent Panavision equipment if you have the money or the clout. It might be big, but it doesn't have to be that big.

Instead of 35 it could be the Genesis. I think we might have shot with one. I know that our usual DP has shot with it. I don't know why they'd be shooting 35 over there for a commercial. But then again, we do every time we can get it in the budget. It's just so much more fun! :D
