Seems like the extra time may have been for 4G testing and also to make sure they have enough stock to meet demand for Q4... and in more countries than just the US. I'm guessing they are looking to make Q4 their best ever by far.

Can't wait to see what other goodies we get this fall. :)

Phew, thought we have to live a whole 24 hours without release date Rumors ;)

In my opinion, with an October ship date, it feels like the extra time they took to put it out will make it a possible 4g iPhone. Why else would they take 5 extra months beyond their typical life cycle?
Well either that or at least something more than just an 'iPhone 4S'.

I'd be very disappointed if it is just an iphone 4 with slightly faster components after such a long wait.

Would love it if this image was an accurate representation of iPhone5. Would definitely inspire me to upgrade early.

iPhone4 preorders were also offered a few weeks prior to launch. Were available to new customers or renewing customers. Some exceptions were made to allow early upgrading ahead of the typical 2 year window but I think it was still > 1 yr. You could preorder though apple.com or AT&T.com.

Not too sure if anyone mentioned it but the mock up pictures seem more ipod touch like. So it must be the iPod Touch 5 and not a new iPhone.

I dunno if anyone else posted about this but....

what is the second picture of on the 9to5mac article? The picture has the caption: "Note the elongated home button," and shows iPhone digitizers in the production line (I think that's what they're called). To my untrained eye, I couldn't really see if it was an iPhone 5 digitizer leak or just showing iPhone 4 digitizers in production at Foxconn.... And I can't believe 9to5mac didn't even post a description of a picture that's embedded in their article..

Anyone else see the picture/read the article?

Let's just hope the Apple website isn't the same disaster for iPhone 5 pre-orders like it was for iPhone 4 pre-orders.

I AM READY and waiting!!

Will probably try to sell my iphone 4 mid september, to get the most cash back. Then live with a POS flip for a couple of weeks until the new one comes out

The pictures are mockups.
The mockups are of the new iPhone.
Therefore, the new iPhone will be a picture.

That's what I'm saying! I mean, why would they wait so long to put it out?? All of the other components that are rumored to be in that thing should have been ready to go a while ago. You can't tell me that Apple with as many resourses as they have couldn't meet the product cycle deadline of the iPhone unless they were waiting for something.

That has been driving me crazy! I would love to see an iPhone 5 with LTE in it... especially with all these rumors of LTE/HSPA+ and what not.

I'm really impressed at how tight apple has kept this phone from leaking even with the 4+ month buffer for release. I know they have something big! it's coming!

Maybe they wanted to release it closer to Christmas so there wouldn't be newer phones out there. The iP4 still had a lot of momentum to carry them.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the likelihood of the iPhone 5 being available factory unlocked? Sorry if this has been asked before.

(I'm assuming you mean unlocked per carrier, not jailbroken correct?)
They just did this with the IPhone 4, but you'll have to shell out 650 bones for it. I'm assuming they will do this for the 5 as well- maybe 1-3 months after release(complete guess, I have nothing to back that up with except my gut)

October! Excellent. Can't wait.
Why in the hell would you say "Excellent" to an even later release date? I suppose you'd be ecstatic if it were delayed until November?
================
All I can say is this long wait better be for more than a warmed over iPhone 4.

Verizon is having a SALE where you get $100 to dump your feature phone and get a smart phone. It ends Sept 30 so it's not likely they will start selling pre-orders before it ends.

These pics are exciting, but it is getting hard to wait longer. Anyone else looking to get a nice android and return it when the iphone5 comes out within 30 days? Can you do that? Just kidding :D
