In my opinion, with an October ship date, it feels like the extra time they took to put it out will make it a possible 4g iPhone. Why else would they take 5 extra months beyond their typical life cycle?

I love how locked down everything is this year. We have some speculations, but for the most part, nobody knows what iPhone 5 will look like (of if it is even iPhone 5)... I bet Steve put the fear of god into everyone involved to prevent what happened last year...

i bet he did! after phones left and leaks everywhere i'm not surprised.

right, but do they do preorders via verizon stores or just on apple's site? just curious. my phone is my only non-apple device, and keepign things synced is a pain.

when the iphone 4 was first released last summer it could be pre-ordered from an at&t store, apple.com or at&t.com (though we all know they had server crash issues.) when the iphone 4 came out for verizon in February, it could only be pre-ordered on apple.com or verizonwireless.com. if i had to guess i would say it could be ordered from both carriers stores and websites along with apple.com and the apple store. dont quote me though.

The iPad 2 needed a new os version which pushed back ios5 which pushed back the iPhone 5.

Man I hope the T-Mobile version is true.

+1
i hope there is a cheap as in around $50 T-Mo version with dual cameras for skype calling. tried to find an android phone for my mom for skype but it horrendous. skype refuses to support some phones for no reason, tegra 2 phone just don't work with skype, etc

Well, looks like another night of staying up until 4 AM for when the AT&T site goes live for pre-orders.

Like others who did this, I got my pre-ordered iPhone 4 the day before it was officially released. I got to drive past AT&T stores with people lined up outside them and smiled.

I took mine to the local Apple Store and walked around with it, also passing the poor souls camping out in line over 12 hours before it went on sale. :D

Mine too. I guess we were lucky since I remember reading here that lots of people did have problems.

yeah you guys were lucky.

after my order went through i was nervous for 3 days because UPS had no tracking information for my order. I finallyreceived a tracking email from them after they delivered my phone LOL

I had to go in to do a SIM swap since I was passing my 3GS to my son. It was funny to see the faces of the AT&T reps when I walked in with it!

Though the real design is not public, this design show in the picture is kicking ass:D

Seems unlikely to me. They should of incorporated the iPad into their iOS workflow and timeline by now. They were able to bring iOS 4 to the iPad and the iPhone in September last year, so whats different this year?

The team who makes the OS aren't the same ones who make the hardware. One has little to do with the other, since they previewed iOS 5 in June already.

Except for the fact that there is no way they would launch iPhone 5 without iOS 5.

I don't think iOS is really what held-up the launch, but hardware and software are very dependent on each other when considering a launch timeline.

I am still hoping for a Sprint version... I don't want another Android nor do I want a Blackberry... so, WP7 might be the way I will go if Apple ignores Sprint again... there are no other alternatives. Sprint barely has anything that's not Android. Right now, besides Android, there are a couple of Blackberries, the old Palm Pixi (can't believe this one), and 1 WP7 phone...

Maybe I could go back to a feature phone and get a 4G modem for iPod touch...

Wonder what an iPhone 5 is going to cost to pre-order when you aren't eligible for an upgrade on VZW? $699 for the 32 GB?

I don't know how real this photo is, but 9to5mac posted it with their post on this topic.

According to them, its iPhone 5 production, but other than that, there are no details. You can clearly see the smaller bezel and larger home button, but for all we know it could be the assembly line of one of the fakes, or a very elaborate photoshop.

Can someone Enhance™ that pic? The top portion definitely looks smaller, suggesting a screen size change. I don't really understand the idea of the elongated home button though. Is it hard to press now for some? Maybe it will be tough sensitive and support a horizontal swipe?
