What a fkn useless change. It's indeed going to to give more false positives.

How about being able to control your iPad or Mac with Siri on a iPhone? Or vice versa. I only have it activated on the iPhone so when I call it, it doesn't trigger every device. But it would be cool to, let's say put the Mac to sleep with the iPhone or set up a alarm on my iPad.

Unless Apple radically improve voice recognition, this might end up in quite a few false Siri starts. Even with “Hey Siri” it used to frequently fire up for me when I was using any French construction involving a “si” in it. So much so, that I ended up switching it off.

SERIously?! I'm sure there will be SERIal acts of cases where SIRI will mistakenly jump into conversations, such as when discussing the need to purchase more CEREal at the grocery store. I mean, hell, she already interrupts randomly at my house.

You're all 100% correct. More false positives certainly never once occurred to Apple in the process of making this change. Because that's entirely realistic. Internet people so smart.

One of my best friend's wife's name is actually, literally, Siri. While it's been fun and annoying at their place with iPhones and HomePods around, how is this change supposed to work at their home exactly now? Did Apple workshop this use-case? Will there be options in the various OS's to change this?

The city I work in and spend half my time in is Surrey.

Maybe Surrey is up for changing its name. Otherwise I’m doomed.

You're really not in any position to comment on it. Neither are the people downvoting this comment who have never used it once, let alone used it over the course of time to get an impression of it.
Agreed. I enjoy joking about it but the algorithm might be so much better that there’s fewer false positives.

But if that’s not the case I’ll be there. 😀

Great, even more false positives. It's not even good enough yet with "Hey Siri", so why would they do this?
This, 1,000%.

My Apple watch would have multiple false triggers every day and I can go for weeks without have false triggers on my GW 5 Pro. How Apple can't figure this out and improve Siri after so long is beyond me.

Haven't watched the full keynote yet... Did they announce any upgrades to Siri's functionality leveraging AI?
They didn’t mention AI not even once, and Machine Learning about four or five times. Siri was definitely an afterthought.

This really stinks because my wife's name is Siri and already I avoid saying "Hey Siri" when I am talking to her.

Now I can't say her name without waking up my phone? Geesh.

Seriously, how difficult could that have been to implement? just continuously flood Siri internally with a loop of my voice saying "Hey", so that when I only say "Siri" it responds

If you are able: Raise to talk on. Hey Siri off.
