I'm in a position because my wife's name is Siri and as it is I get a lot of false triggers even when I'm not explicitly saying "Hey Siri." Now it will be 1,000 times worse. This is a stupid change. Apple should let us record our own phrase.

The nice part about "Hey Siri" was that it wouldn't have false positive triggers that often. I fear that "Siri" is going to be picked up a LOT more in random conversations.
As I've posted above, my wife's name is Siri and I get false triggers when I am saying her name. This change will make it much, much worse. I will start calling my wife "Hey you" or "oy wifey" (a la Jerry Lewis).

1) Is it configurable? What about people named Siri? In everyday life, when talking, the assistant will turn on.
2) It is strange that in the era of chatgpt nothing is said about improving Siri. On the other hand, they focus on security and the fact that the data does not leave the device. But it looks now, in 2023, not so convincing, but rather as an excuse. They lagged behind Microsoft, which invested in open ai. On the other hand, neural networks may turn out to be another fashionable buzzword. First cryptocurrencies, blockchain, then a quick glimpse of the NFT, now chatbots.

We've been trained to say Hey Siri....hopefully it won't be too much of a curve to change it up.
What's sad ... is it took Apple's existing AI team, and courting a Google AI lead engineer + Stock Options for him in less than 1yr to grant us this - 4yrs LATER!!!

Oh and to add that he's moved to the vapourware of a Car Project - that is a pure WASTE of company employee intelligence, financial resources and legal negotiating skillset and time.

I really wish they could make this damn thing smart enough to change it to whatever trigger word that I'd want. "Computer, turn off the lights." "Snooky Lumps, dim the lights." "Hey f***nut, close the blinds."

I don't have Siri voice enabled except on my porch where I have my HomePods set up for TV viewing. Any other time, I usually just press the crown on my Ultra to use voice commands without calling her by name--a name of which I hate by the way.

Apple today at WWDC announced that it is simplifying the voice command to invoke Siri across the iPhone, iPad, Mac, HomePod, and other devices. Instead of "Hey Siri," users will now simply be able to simply say "Siri" to activate the voice assistant.

After activating Siri, users can issue multiple commands in succession without needing to reactivate the assistant, according to Apple.

The shorter "Siri" command will be supported on any iPhone and iPad that can run iOS 17 and iPadOS 17. For the Mac and AirPods, however, Apple says the feature will be limited to Macs with Apple silicon and the second-generation AirPods Pro.

The shorter "Siri" command is one of several new features introduced across iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS Sonoma. The software updates will be available as developer betas starting today, and will be publicly released later this year.

I hate this so much. My wife’s name is SHERI and we both love using Siri, but even “Hey Siri” gets triggered accidentally. They need to make this customizable.

My sister's name is Sheri and it's close enough to get picked up when I say "Hey Sheri". She may have to change her name.
My wife’s name is Sheri and it triggers our HomePods constantly. Super frustrating, especially since we otherwise love our HomePods!

Anyone with a name which sounds remotely like "Siri" is going to be hating life. I'd like the option to rename it, even if they just have us a couple of other options, like "computer". People with similar sounding names will have to live in Apple free households...

So now instead of having my phone react whenever I say “I’m sorry” it will it will react every time I said anything… great.

Siri has been a huge embarrassment from the start. They don’t need to change the activation they need to fix the system.

Haven't watched the full keynote yet... Did they announce any upgrades to Siri's functionality leveraging AI?
You must be joking. Every year she steps backwards and becomes less aware of the world, much like an Alzheimer’s sufferer. They likely had to shorten the wake word because she couldn’t remember a phrase that long anymore.

Exactly this - the whole point of two-word commands is that they're less likely to get picked up on accident. Siri is going to be constantly activating once this is implemented

Lol. But laughing through tears. I need Siri to be better.

I guess Apple has limited this feature for latest iPhone as I do not yet see this option on my iOS 17 updated iPhone Xs Max.
