They have become so stingy it's crazy. They have either increased prices, removed supplied accessoires and/or decreased trade-in values for every existing product.

Examples:

- MacBooks not coming with a extension cable anymore. (now you need to buy it if you need it)
- Headphone jack - lightning adapter not included anymore. (now you need to buy it if you need)
- Apple Pencil 2 doesn't come with a extra tip. (now you need to buy it if you need it)
- Increased cpu and ram upgrade costs. (At least here in Europe)
- This article.

I'm sure there is a lot more, but these are a few example that just popped into my head.

Almost, but not every single product. iPhone 11 got cheaper, compared to the XR. ;)

Are you okay? Serious question.

iPhone XS Max
Launch Price - $1099 + Tax
Trade In - $500

The german trade in price is ok. Up to 430 Euros. On eBay you would get 550 - 650 Euros. And then you got the eBay fees and the risk of a scam buyer. So I think its fair.

Obviously the Trade In /Recycle program is not hitting Tim Apple's margins. Not a surprising move IMO. You'll see more of this as China sales continue to see double digit growth. :apple:

My particular model of MacBook Air had an estimated trade in of $325. After the 16” was released they only offered to recycle for free o_O

Wow, my timing was good...I did the trade in through Apple when I purchased my new 16” MacBook Pro two weeks ago. Had an old 2014 MacBook Pro 13” and most of the offers I found through 3rd parties were in the $300-350 range. Apple offered $420 so I took that...They sent me the pre-paid return box and I sent it in, expecting them to reduce the amount...because of something...a scratch there or here, a depleted battery, or something...but nope...Three days after they received it, I got the confirmation that it was inspected and my credit card would get the $410 credit within 3-5 days...which I did.

At a glance, these still look very generous trade-in values.
I hope you’re joking

I'm surprised the prices lasted this long. I expected they would drop after the first month. What would you pay for a two year old phone?
Are you kidding? Most 2 year old phones are worth $4-500 these days at least

$290.00 for an I pad pro when I paid over a $1000.00 I think not for that little bit I will pass it down to one of my kids to play with.

I just paid $350 for a 13" iPad Pro 2nd gen 64 GB, the used prices on them have plummeted the last few months.

Overall some of the prices are ridiculous, some of them are fine (we traded in my wifes 6S for $100 because the battery was **** a year ago and were happy with the process), but calling it slashing seems a bit clickbaity.

So you’re saying the fair market value of a used phone goes down over time?

I haven’t been this shocked since I learned glass breaks when dropped.

My thoughts Exactly!

Oh, and I don't care what other trade-in sites offer, Apple has evaluated aging used equipment and determined that is the amount they will pay for it at trade-in. I guess if you were thinking of trading in yesterday the old adage of 'you snooze you lose' is befitting.

How does it compare to trade-ins of other company?
These reductions in Apple's trade-in values seem to be in line with what's going on with Best Buy's trade-in values.

(I keep a pretty keen eye on Best Buy's trade-in program because they periodically bump UP values for a short time and am always looking to take advantage of those deals)

That is what I normally do with my Apple devices. My iPhone is the only thing I trade-in annually to upgrade to the newest model. Everything else (iPads, Apple Watch, MacBooks, etc.) I hang onto for 2-4 years and I give them to one of my kids when I upgrade.

By "most" do you mean 2 year old iPhones or any phone? Are you talking used or new? The Samsung Galaxy S9 is a little less than 2 years old and it goes for about $350 new on eBay and mid $200s used ("refurbished"). 2018 Google Pixel 3 phones are about the same price.

The Xr goes for $350 to $500 used but it's just over 1 year old. The X goes for about $400. The iPhone 8 (2 years old) is <$300 on eBay. The 8 Plus is around $300 (and higher for a new one).

Those are just high-end phones. Considering the estimated global average price of smartphones is under $300 (https://www.statista.com/statistics/484583/global-average-selling-price-smartphones/), there's no way "most 2 year old phones are worth $4-500".
