All this product is, to me, is a sales pitch for the upcoming mophie cases. This is worse than mophie now in Almost every tangible way... (it does have about 15% less added battery than Apple's option)

Anybody else get it and feel like it dies quickly? I barely use my phone for 20 mins and it goes down to 89% from 100%.

Yes thats happening with me! Unless I’m just using the hell out of it but I do think it’s getting drained fairly quickly.

What iPhone are you using?

Just a note for my Max Smart battery. I noticed it draining fast at first. After a full charge overnight, I used it from 6 am to 9 pm yesterday and then it completely depleted. My fully charged internal battery was then used.

Maybe thers a chance I have to charge it a lot longer. I will say this, last night before I left for work i had it charging for a lot longer than usual and it did last longer. Thank you for replying! Keep updated on how it does again in the next couple of days on your end.

That's what I was talking about in #46. In my experience, this smart battery tells the phone that it is on a charger and the phone continues to do everything it would do on charge, like syncing backups/photos/whatever. I've seen claims that the "smart" part of this battery is that the phone knows it's on a smart case, but I see syncing happening when I look in my Xcode console while it is on this battery. It just drains the things super fast*

* - Well, with the old smart battery, I haven't tried this new one yet.

Important to know that this probably does not work with CarPlay. Usually if there is a data/power passthrough, CarPlay will not function or will be unreliable. I am waiting for the Mophie case to come out this quarter which leaves the iPhone X/Xr/Xs/XsMax Lightning port free.

It says on the product details accessories can still be used through the lightning port. From Apple.com "The case can be charged even faster with USB-PD compatible chargers. It also supports Lightning accessories, such as the EarPods with Lightning Connector (included with your iPhone), or the Lightning Digital AV Adapter (sold separately)."

Hmm.. But doesn't having the iPhone's battery constantly charging kind of DESTROY battery life?

CarPlay works fine FYI I used it all weekend with the Apple XS Max Smart Case.

I picked mine up Friday night. First thing to know is you should charge it first, before your iPhone. Especially if you charge wirelessly, because it will take forever due to the way Apple has the phone charge before the battery case.

While I am happy to finally have an Apple Silicone case that covers the bottom of my phone, the larger shape of the bottom is immediately noticeable in the hand. The microphone and speaker holes seem very tiny, not at all taking Apple's own case design guidance into account. And...

Question for me is, how heavy is it? I hope the added weight isn't too much...

...the weight is immediate. I don't know that this is a daily driver case for me. I would say it would make for a great travel case, but I hope by the time my travel comes up this year, Moment will have released their updated battery case for the iPhone. You can't attach a lens to the Apple case, lol.

The haters will suggest that this is how Apple will drive upgrades.

It's just trickle charging when your phone is full, so I don't believe so.

Yeah, after a couple charges it seems to have evened itself out for me. I’m keeping an eye on the charge level for the rest of the week though in case I need to get a replacement.

I take it when the smart battery case is on the iPhone that it alters the phone's water resistance rating? I can't imagine the case has a water resistance rating like the phone. There are also f-m lightning connectors. I wonder if Apple has something written somewhere in the fine print.

I was hoping if someone could answer if Battery cases interfere with NFC technology? Including 3 party?

How would something surrounding the water resistant iPhone, alter the phone itself? Of course the battery case will have it's own rating, but that won't change the iPhone's.

I can test for you this evening probably. At least as far as ApplePay is concerned.

It works fine no issues and I use it allot daily with the battery case on haven’t seen a single issue

I said affect the phones water resistance rating. Not phone itself. I guess you haven’t heard of what happens when water and batteries and electricity mix. If the battery shorts in the water you don’t think there’s a chance that will affect the phone given it is directly tethered to the phone? So by attaching the battery case you are inadvertently attaching something that could feed more than it is meant to into the iPhone.

Quote from Apple in relation to water resistant iPhones:

'...do not charge your device until it’s completely dry. Using accessories or charging when wet might damage your iPhone. Allow at least 5 hours before charging with a Lightning cable or connecting a Lightning accessory.'

https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT207043

I believe you can class the Apple Smart Case as a 'Lightning Accessory'. So the there is a reasonable possibility (possibly significant) that your iPhone XS/Max etc will have an issue if the smart case is on when it gets wet or after it gets wet. The phone alone is ok. But once you marry it with the smart case it (iPhone) is certainly not in an IP68 rated state.

I have a quick question. I charged both the phone and the case but now as I'm actually using it, the icon in the top right-hand corner just continually shows the charging symbol. It's only when I go into control centre that I can see the actual iPhone power level. Is this normal?

What's funny about this is that this popped into my head this morning in the shower. The case wouldn't affect the water resistance, but maybe it charging would.

Yep, I just used Apple Pay three times (including one at Taco Bell) without issue.

Yes that is normal. That's one of the first things I noticed, too. So I guess that means that the phone thinks and acts like it is plugged into a wall charger - which I think is actually not good if it's 100% of the time. I'll be taking my battery case off my Xr at least once a week to run the internal battery down and charge back up.

I have read this thread twice now and cannot see anyone posting the weight of the new cases. I would have thought this was a key point for Apple to communicate in the specs. I can see why the weight is not shown or publicised by Apple as it may suggest it is considered a negative feature.

Please would someone post the weights of the XS case? i'm interested in the XS weight as I mainly carry the phone in trousers or suit jacket and it might be very heavy.

thanks
