Apple swung and missed with Vision Pro, but these glasses should have a much better chance of success.

Nobody wants to wear scuba goggles in public. Eyeglasses are socially acceptable.
You mean eyeglasses filled with cameras and microphones? Not sure if that is socially acceptable...
Apple should really stop copying things that do not work from others (only a few millions of Meta Ray-bans were sold in 2 years) with the thinking that they will do it "better" and then the product magically be considered useful.

From the description, these glasses won't visually augment (e.g. via a display in the glasses) anything, but rely on voice alone? DOA as far as I'm concerned. The only way I'd wear GLASSES is to SEE something! If it's just gonna be some sensors so Siri knows the environment, they should do what Jony Ives seems to be doing: use a necklace based gadget.
Edit: The Google lens have an augmented screen on the inside. I don't see the utility of an Apple smart glass without a display.

If the screens aren’t being used for AR, then what’s the point of them being glasses?

I don’t like the idea of whatever the fnord Ive is making but fake glasses I like even less.
Edit: The google glass has a screen on the inside. It seems an Apple smart glass without a screen would not be that useful.

I have a question for those here:

Presuming of course you love new Apple Products.
How much difference would having some sort of screen in these type of glasses be a gamechanger for you?

Would something like Meta Raybans, with a camera, speakers and AI be enough, or does there need to be a screen, even if only limited in size, and just in one lens need to be there before you'd consider a purchase?

Myself I'm going to hold out for some display, as live maps I can see / directions is the major item on my Wishlist.

I have not played with them, but I have heard from friends that the Meta Ray Bans are surprisingly compelling even without the screen.

That said, it seems like a screen would certainly make them significantly more useful and appeal to more "normal people" vs. early adopters like my friends. But of course a screen also leads to battery/weight/safety trade-offs that would have to be considered.

Long way of saying, I'd consider it without a screen, but not sure how many other people would.

Sounds like Apple is rushing this now, because of competition from everyone. Considering that’s what they did with Apple Intelligence, that’s not a good sign
Yeah. I can just see it now - you're walking about and ask siri for some information about whatever it is you're looking at and as usual siri gives a half-arsed answer or worse points you to a website lol

A rumor that doesn't say it will happen in 2027? I can't believe it. 🤣

The endless question is how will this work for people that wear prescription glasses. There are a lot of us.
That's a good question. Wearing prescription lenses frightens me. I'll have to sell my firstborn child or something to pay for it lol

I work in an office... why would there be anyone else in my office or desk? Wearing AVP is socially isolating. No doubt about that.

So you keep saying, but even if true, so is sitting at your desk. so is wearing headphones. so what is the problem? But the reality is they just aren't as socially isolating as you think, if you just get over your phobia of not looking cool. Whatever that means.

Actually conceptually these could completely change the landscape the way the first iphone. I suggest apple puts aside adding every last feature and concentrates on a workable AFFORDABLE everyday product.
And as a high index glasses user imagine even glasses that could always assist you to see in perfect focus.
Operate your iphone in your pocket at least for calls and message reading using eye movement. An infrared camera or overlay for night time. Diwn the track interface via contacts or sensors in the glasses arms via thoughts. Potentially this could really change the landscape.
<humour>
At least until we can have neuro interface chips implanted 🥹🤣

I got a prototype

I am sorry, it’s just me but I really don’t get this product at all … I understand the benefits of Xreal type but not those ones … I would really like Apple to launch Xreal competition or a much lighter Vision (no need to be pro) at 1500 top …

Siri+glasses=failure, Siri is junk I wish they would just get rid of it and just give us an option for something else anybody remember HomePod yeah that thing doesn’t work HomePod, Apple Vision Pro, glasses hey that will be strike three

Rushing? Dude they say 2026 .... this is Apple we are talking about ... so 2027 ...and by then the whole smart glasses thing will have died. Its looking for a solution to a problem that doesn't even exist.

I've had my Meta Ray Bans for less than a week and it's already become an essential part of my routine for getting ready in the morning. I will reach for my smartglasses before my smartwatch. Yesterday I chaperoned an all-day school field trip to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and forgot my smartwatch at home but had the Meta Ray Bans on my face. You can argue that I normally need regular glasses anyways and probably would never forget my glasses, whether smart-enabled or not, but I have stopped wearing my regular glasses that I just bought in January because I love the convenience that the Meta Ray Bans afford me.

Back to the field trip. On the bus and throughout the day, it was nice to be alerted to new messages in the chaperone group chat and respond without having to look at my phone. The Meta Ray Bans would read aloud the messages with perfect clarity through the speakers and I didnt need to wear AirPods or earbuds that often fall out. I could also snap quick photos of moments or take short videos of outdoor shows without holding up my phone and blocking someone else's view.

You hear the phrase, "a solution looking for a problem", and while that definitely applies to many tech I dont believe smartglasses are going to fail. It is more an example of, "you don’t realize how great or convenient something is until you try it". The field of smartglasses is full of potential and more interesting than the minor improvements in the mobile phone space. I definitely don't need to upgrade my phone every year, but I look forward to more innovation (and more battery life) added to successive generations of smartglasses and I plan to upgrade every year or whenever a new model of smartglasses comes out.

Ugh

Get me off of this timeline

No matter how good they are the Vision Pro and these glasses are never going to be mass market devices like the iPad, iPhone and AirPods.
They should have just pushed out the foldable phone and fitness ring.
