Pretty much all of this can be done on people watches or phones. Until smart glasses can do things can't be done on a watch or phone - and people become reliant on them for those things - very few people are going to want to put them on their face as anything more than a party trick.
And that is why they actually should be, I cant believe Im saying this, following Meta's lead. Meta teamed up with Ray-Ban and put their tech in an iconic pair of glasses that people want to wear regardless. A lot more people would buy them if for example, Apple teamed with Oakley. Apple......you dont make glasses. Its not your thing. Stick to what you know, and let the glasses design come from elsewhere.

This is going to canibalize Vision Pro sales. The 4 people who got one will wish they'd have waited for these.
Jobs had something to say about cannibalizing existing products:
"If you don't cannibalize yourself, someone else will."

And that's why he never worried about the iPhone displacing the iPod. If you're not moving forward, you're moving backward compared to your competition.

If it needs a brick of a battery wired to it, no sale. No matter how inexpensive. This isn't the thing you play games on your couch with. It's something you wear in the real world. but you're not augmenting reality. Reality doesn't need our perceptions. And if it's "augmented" it's not reality. Semantics, I know. Antidote to solipsism though.

I talk alot of trash about Apple due to its **** ups(MOSTLY AI)
But I will definitely get these especially with Apple being big on privacy. Hence why I never took the Facebook glasses.
Zuckerberg is a total creep.
What will you do with them given Siri sucks and you won’t be able to control them with your voice?

Tim Apple be like - Quick throw everything at the wall and see what sticks !! We are being left behind in everything !! Double the ram prices, next iPhone should cost 100$ more or else the shareholders will have me for dinner.

Not many non-nerds want to wear glasses that look like glasses. If it at least were sunglasses then ok but this fugly Clark Kent style hipster Ray Bans… 😵

Since AI we know that probably no one inside of Apple knows they are working on smart glasses. Another marketing buzz no one has heard of with no prototypes or working anything? Will we see a science fiction marketing movie of Apple at WWDC again?

I don’t get how everyone is just ok with the meta ones Googles second take at it and now Apple? Weren’t we all freaked out and ppl punching dorks who went into bars with this? Wasn’t the panic creeps going to sit down on the train and snap pics of ppl or make apps to look ppl up on the spot without anyone knowing? Now it’s just a well if ppl gonna do this might as well join them ????

You can order smartglasses with tinted lenses to look like sunglasses, or transition lenses so you don't look like a douche wearing sunglasses indoors.

Also, some nice frames and clear glasses can accentuate someone's eyes and face, although I notice it more on women.

While I don't really have an interest in this stuff, glasses does seem like the only hope this tech has of going mainstream. The Vision Pro-style bulky headset is an unredeemable form factor, it's so awkward and intrusive for minimal benefit. The only other thing I could think this stuff could benefit from would be Soli-style radar for 360 awareness and gesture control from outside of eyeline with the device. This would likely need a chunky battery pack just like the vision pro at the start, but it would be a step up over relying on what a camera or lidar can perceive.

I love my new Meta Ray Bans and they address some of the major concerns and criticisms with first-gen Google Glass.

First off, I don’t try to creep with my Meta Ray Bans and even if you did at least there's a bright pulsing indicator light to signal to others that you're recording.

Secondly, Google Glass relied on bone-conduction whereas Meta Ray Bans have open ear speakers similar to Shokz Open Air speakers.

Thirdly, today's smartglasses dont make you stand out like a cyborg or member of the Borg.

Modern smartglasses are better integrated and more refined than Google Glass, and the designs show more awareness for other people's comfort. When taking a public photo or video with Meta Ray Bans at least it's not a secret what you're actively doing.

My favorite feature of the Meta Ray Bans is having my messages read aloud through the smartglass speakers, and being able to hear and speak in meetings without needing separate earbuds or AirPods that often fall out. The smartglass experience is freeing to me.

How many people work at your desk with you? If you think working is socially isolating, then I guess you aren't as social as you say. You know what is also socially backward? Acting as if your version of 'cool' is it.

Just what is it about the AVP that intimidates you so much? The price of the technology will come down in the versions ahead.

I work in an office... why would there be anyone else in my office or desk? Wearing AVP is socially isolating. No doubt about that.

Meta RB are my favorite gadget at the moment. Every use case is different, but for me spending most of the time on the beach they are great. Speakers are more than enough for quiet surroundings, I can record POV videos playing beach tennis or walking by the ocean, I can use live translation because Spanish is not my native language, they don't look bulky or weird, and in the end when juice runs out they're sunglasses. Just wish Meta was forced to allow users to select different AI bots.

I am excited to see if Apple's smart glasses include AI and Siri. Hopefully, by next year, AI will improve to a new level.

How is talking out-loud to a pair of glasses compatible with Apple’s focus on privacy?
(Operation by hand gestures sounds limiting.)

Once again, Apple caught napping again! Look at me, look at me!

You just know that Tim & Co watched yesterday's I/O & quickly.called Bloomberg for a look at me.moment.

Apple last to the game,..as always 💤
This has been Apple's Standard Operating Procedure for years.

I'm sad I never got to try out Google Glass and that it didn't get out of its beta stage.

Apple Glasses, are far more beneficial than the Apple Vision Pro to me. Can't wait to see if they really release it.
