This whole thing reminds me of the invention of the electric telegraph. Because, when it was invented, people did not really understand what electricity was. But… What is it today that we fail to understand? I think it is either attention, or intention, or maybe even both.🍸😺

Siri text my partner that I’ll be home soon: I don’t see your partner in your contacts.

Siri what’s that thing in front of me?: sorry, I didn’t quite get that.

Siri what’s the white appliance on the floor?: I’ll show you some web results if you ask again on your iPhone.

Once again, Apple caught napping again! Look at me, look at me!

You just know that Tim & Co watched yesterday's I/O & quickly.called Bloomberg for a look at me.moment.

Apple last to the game,..as always 💤

According to Bloomberg, an Apple employee said that the glasses are similar to Meta's glasses, "but better made."
I swear Apple act like they are in Primary School. This is clearly Apples "leadership" team leaking scared. 🙄🤦‍♂️

I mean, I’m not saying Apple is on top of their game right now, but these things have been rumored for months, if not years.

And yes, Apple is generally late to the party, but they usually (not always) do it right when they get there.

If the screens aren’t being used for AR, then what’s the point of them being glasses?

I don’t like the idea of whatever the fnord Ive is making but fake glasses I like even less.

I hope apple are announcing this because they actually are well on their way and expect to start manufacturing later this year, for 2026 shipment.

And not because google announced their product; and they need to say they're working on it (when they aren't) to appease shareholders.
Because the latter is exactly how you get into the situation apple intelligence is in.

Users care because we're mostly social creatures. If you want to socially isolate yourself, then the AVP is perfect.

How many people work at your desk with you? If you think working is socially isolating, then I guess you aren't as social as you say. You know what is also socially backward? Acting as if your version of 'cool' is it.

Just what is it about the AVP that intimidates you so much? The price of the technology will come down in the versions ahead.

They'll throw a twist there somewhere like not being able to capture true video, but it uses AI to render an image based on your video, so anything incriminating is not permissible as evidence. But it'll keep track of the user all day and night long. Won't be surprised if there is some wireless standard businesses can use to SHUT OFF features like recording when in their buildings or networks. Why wouldn't they be so overt at this point? Nobody is stopping them.

I really hope they do a pair of AirPod Glasses with spacial audio. I wear Meta Ray Bans all the time (both Rx and sunglasses) just for the open air audio. They are fantastic for listening to audiobooks & podcasts and for taking phone calls. I rarely use the camera and have all of the Meta AI junk turned off.

“According to Bloomberg, an Apple employee said that the glasses are similar to Meta's glasses, "but better made."”

This is by very doable for Apple

“The Meta Ray-Bans use Meta Llama and Google Gemini, but Apple will rely on its own AI models.”

This is unlikely.

Apple AI is currently 💩

Why the hell would anyone want smart glasses without a display? This is seriously embarrassing if true, especially after Google’s presentation last week.

Apple is planning to launch a set of smart glasses by the end of 2026, reports Bloomberg. The glasses will be comparable to the Meta Ray-Bans and the Android XR glasses that Google showed off earlier this week. …
Provided this unneeded tech takes off, that will mean once you enter public space you are subject to be surveillanced by everyone who would like to and you have no direct indication that it is happening. The Stasi would have licked their fingers at such technology. If at least it could be regulated but that is not likely to happen in the orange age. Tech has been increasingly deconstructing cultural values of community, respect, and trust. It is also disappointing to see that Apple —instead of innovating useful tech— prefers copying Google’s and Meta’s spyware.

So apple is getting into the data collecting game as blatantly as FB and Google? We'll see if Apple Intelligence is up for it by then.
Maybe it will only be compatible with 12GB-equipped iPhones that can handle Apple Intelligence? That could be an effective way to motivate people to upgrade their current phone.

The problem is that the tech to make this a revolutionary product is 5-10 years away, yet Apple wants to rush a gimmick product to market like the Meta glasses.
