The survey can be seen as an attempt to gauge the experiences of PCWorld's readers. PCWorld's readers are not a representative cross section of general users since most people don't bother to go to a website to find out about their PC. Apple fans have a vastly higher representation on tech websites than the wider picture i.e. 5% Mac users worldwide. Look at the comments section on any tech website and you will see Apple's fans make up a much larger percentage than the wider picture.

Asus? ROFLOL

How in the World did Asus score so high??? I have an asus router and not only is it garbage but tech support is the worst I have ever encountered in 20 years of using tech support. You get disconnected a LOT and a different answer from each tech And it's the wrong answer 90% of the time. Asus support is Hilarious!
I will never buy another asus product EVER again! It makes you wonder how the company gets products out the door every day. It just goes to show that you dont need a brain to have a huge company and make a profit every year. Look how popular windows OS is an it's horrible as well. There is a sociological answer here somewhere. Maybe we are just all to lazy and put up with what these companies give us if it's almost good enough.

I'm not quite sure you understand what XP mode is. Are you talking about visualization? If so, I downloaded XP mode once, but erased it since it was quite useless, for most people I imagine. It was created basically for companies that had old custom programs that worked on XP, and that won't get updated. Other than that, I never found a program that would require XP mode. Plus, virtulazation wouldn't be good to play games, unless they were really old, in which case they can use an emulator like dosbox. I have some old games, like Return to Castle Wolfeinstein, Doom 3, Sonic Heroes, Grand Theft Auto 3, and they all work fine. I'm assuming you mean games like the original doom, don't know if they work, but again, dosbox.

Oh. I'm talking about 'little known non-dos games' like...um....I don't know.....Diablo 2?? Bethesda games like..um..that little known...Fallout 3. I'm sure, if I looked, I'd find a good slew of high profile ones with issues.

From all the posts I've seen around. Haven't seen one that had a solution without XP mode. Of course, this doesn't affect Mac users as much as they'll just run the Mac version. Windows-only users, on the other hand.

Main things without issues are likely MMOs (including free to play) since those are constantly updated and likely already patched for Win 7. We aren't exactly talking Dos-Box games here.

They spent a lot on the Mac, so they are "happy", weather this means the mac is performing or they let it collect dust, they are satisfied because they believe in the "value" of spending more on a product, or the more you pay, the better it must be. Of those who use a mac and are totally satisfied, they maybe the only computers that they have used for years, and so they just don't understand the value of a pc.

LOLwhat?!

Ok, I admit I grew up on Mac. But at one point I did do the, "Macs = too expensive, I'm buying a PC.". Used it for a year, got aggravated with it and all the random weird quirks it got (at least my Mac when it locked up, it locked up. The PC would get all weird, go weirder, and maybe eventually lock up. And did so far more often than the Macs I'd used and this was before OSX. I swear at least three times a day I'd have to restart it). Got excited to see a "deal" on a Mac that was no longer the newest Mac and bought it with the idea of having two computers to use (my PC for the fact more stuff was made for it cause I did enjoy the fact that for once I wasn't getting the, "We don't make this for Mac" problem). But, once I got the Mac, the PC ended up gathering dust.

Now, that's not my only experience with PC. I eventually wanted to play the new Microsoft Flight Simulator (2000 I believe). So I gutted out my old PC with all new stuff (literally, it's a Gateway shell) aimed at being a Flight Simulator machine, and put XP on it. Now, I did actually start using it cause it was far newer and faster than the Mac (and in general, what I want most in a computer is that it does things quickly and doesn't lag much), and XP I'll say is not a bad system. It's the first Windows that hasn't pissed me off.

Heh, used that one for a few years actually. Some how I think I still wanted a Mac in the back of my mind cause I decided I'd buy a cheap laptop to have a laptop as well. But kept trying to see if I could afford a Mac laptop. Ended up from wanting to spend a few hundred on a used PC laptop to justifying 900 dollars on a macbook off of ebay (mainly you couldn't find a used macbook for less than 500 that wasn't really outdated or broken and for 400 more I found a month old Macbook that the actual model had only been out a month even. Admittedly I got lucky and it was a really good deal on ebay for that. I couldn't find a good deal like that for my current MBP sadly). Loved it so much the PC gathered dust again (and I loved OSX, this was my first real experience with it as my old Mac ran OS 9 and the first OSX which I wasn't that impressed with. But I did like Tiger).

And my point is: I'd say I use Mac because I just find it more pleasant to use. And it is more expensive and I hate that, but I just can't see myself going back to Windows. I'm happy with Mac and Windows doesn't really have much to entice me (other than Flight Sim though I'm hearing X-Plane which does have a Mac version is better. I know that I'm impressed my old Mac could play X-plane, good luck on it even running windows to run Flight Sim which tends to be a resource hog).

Can I just point out that the headline in the graphic includes the phrase "touch bottom" and that I find it quite amusing? That's all.

First, the sample was tainted. Out of 79,000 responses, I would bank on less than 300 were Apple.

You're making an assumption, which means you're wrong right from the get go and your words are about as useful as Kim Kardashian for President.

About Apple fan-boy owners:

Now you're just being rude.

They spent a lot on the Mac, so they are "happy", weather this means the mac is performing or they let it collect dust, they are satisfied because they believe in the "value" of spending more on a product, or the more you pay, the better it must be.

Wrong again. Am I seeing a trend here?

First, we are happy with our computers because they actually work and do what we want them to do when we want them to do it. I know, I know, I was shocked too when I bought my 1st Apple.

Second, we are happy with this article because we did pay more money than your avg PC, and in return, expected more in terms of quality, both in hardware, software and overall user experience. We are happy because, for once, we got what we paid for - I know, it's unheard of !

Of those who use a mac and are totally satisfied, they maybe the only computers that they have used for years, and so they just don't understand the value of a pc.

Bingo - wrong again.

Most of us came from the PC side of the fence, especially over the last decade, though as you can see through sales figures, many are just now switching over. I myself was a PC user for 21 years, switched over 2 months ago. I can promise you this, the overall experience you get from a Mac is a million times better than any PC out there. I can also promise you that we understand "the value of a pc" quite well, if not better than you and your blind, misguided ideas.

Also, when you conceder

It's "consider".

Stay in school.

that the demand for PCs is far greater than macs, you come across the "cut corners" approach by many manufacturers to keep prices competitive.

Wow...you just gave yourself a glimpse of why we pay more for better...unfortunately it went over your head and under your feet. Food for thought on your day off, perhaps?

This does not exist on the mac because OSX is linked to hardware, and not supported on any other platform.

Ignorance is bliss.

Apple doesn't cut corners like other PC manufacturers because they want to offer their customers a certain experience, stemming from its leader's visions. Your typical PC manufacturer could careless in comparison.

FYI: I have been building computers for over 15 years, and own a Mac Mini for iPhone App Development. Recently I upgraded the mac mini with a hybrid drive and more memory. Yes, I did upgrade it myself, and no, I did not use the spatula method as it damaged the case, I used the wire method. Apple does not want you to upgrade their computers, they want to have you spend money.

News flash - 99% of the world's population doesn't care about programming and development, or doing your own upgrades above and beyond a disc drive and RAM. They just want a device that makes their lives easier and more enjoyable. Mac does that, PC doesn't (the PC experience actually does the opposite).

Btw, Apple has a Mac Pro line available, if you're serious about configurations and need such a work horse.

Do I love the mac? Not really,

Boy am I glad you cleared that up! I wasn't sure there for a second.

OSX is not the easiest to use and there are so many basic things that windows 7 does that OSX does not.

As I'm sure there are things that OS X does that W7 does not. They are 2 different operating systems. Make no mistake about it, OS X is better than W7 from a user experience point of view, if not more, and it's very easy to use, especially with a trackpad.

And let's not talk about other Windows OSs for that matter, especially Vista. Let's just not. After all, it's Christmas.

Apple is Smoking the Pants off Blackberry

Did anyone see the news today?? Corporate Businesses are canceling their accounts with Blackberry and giving everyone iPhones and iPads! For Blackberry.....when it rains it pours!! :D

What is particularly entertaining for me, is reading all the "PC World is so biased, these results are not credible" comments at the PC World link. I could understand the bias in "MacWorld" and other Apple centered publications, but "PC World"? The ultimate example of denial is in people who ignore results, regardless of source, if they do not support their own personal agenda.
Excellent insight. I still read PC World even though I'm a Mac user now, since I like the staff; they really do seem unbiased. A lot of people on their online community though, are another story. >_>

It's always been that way, people are just waking up after years of being short changed. Finally the world is demanding quality for the hard earned money they put out.:apple:

That's exactly how I feel after enduring over two decades of Windows disappointments. I feel cheated by Microsoft all these years for taking my money and giving me "3rd rate products" in return. Like any bad relationship, you cut your ties, move on, and don't look back.
