Ruh row....what are the fandroids going to do now....
Androids growth was only due to Apple not being in their sandbox and available only on 1 carrier...AT&T...at launch.
As the iPhone has slowly moved into each carriers market, starting with Verizon, then Sprint, with T-Mobile on the horizon and most of the overseas markets, it's fairly obvious Androids market share was only because they had no competition along with putting their 'OS' on any branded smartphone while Apple's is specific to a single tree of model...the iPhone.
Give people a choice, which they didn't have for the most part up until recently and you'll see what they are picking...Apple over Android.
It's pretty amazing that a controlled, closed system can beat out shareware.
I think the iPhone is better than 99% of android phones out there, but I never would expect it to sell more just because of the nature in which android is distributed to so many different brands/hardware.
Why is it amazing?
The only people touting an open shareware system are the highest of tech nerds...the engineering/techie types. I have tons of friends in these fields and they are the only ones that spout the open source bible nonsense and that is what it is.
People want their stuff to work, look good and function the way it should.
A closed eco-system puts controls in place that we need, not only for the user experience, but the developer experience. No one likes a moving target.
If you give inmates the run of the asylum, you'll see chaos and that is exactly what an open eco-system is, especially for developers.
People hate people controlling them...what most don't realize is some level of control is needed for not only tech but society in general.
