That's a hell of a drop, but I think it had a lot to do with waiting for the second generation product.

What will be more interesting is when they give the hardware a major update, with the Series 3.

Seriously? Most people who wanted one had already purchased one. By last summer, the watch had been out for over a year. Everyone was waiting for the new watch to be released. The announcement was in June and many people who were in the market likely chose to wait until the 2nd gen ones were released. It doesn't take a statistician to figure that out.
Bunnicula! I haven't seen you in ages!

I'm definitely one waiting for the second generation. I want one of those goofy Nike ones even though I don't run enough to justify owning one. But I am in the water a lot. So I'll simply wait until summer to get one. Meanwhile my original stainless is still gorgeous and doing well. I gave a gold sport watch I had to my daughter.

I use Android a lot these days but still have my trusty SE to pair with an Apple Watch.

As long as Android watch makers insist on ignoring women's tastes and generally smaller wrists, I don't think Apple has much to worry about. There are some Android watches out there allegedly aimed at women but they are clearly afterthoughts. Only Apple seems to have designed from the ground up with both women and men in mind.

The problem is that people LOVE smartphones. They enjoy passing time taking them out and mindlessly reading texts, tweets, playing games, whatever. Its compulsive. People are not looking to replace this with a tamped down wrist meta-equivalant that could never be as good. There is small audience for smartwatches, but most people are not interested because they love phone experience

That's why the computing part of the Watch will always be secondary to the Health and Fitness. It's not, however, a reason why the Apple Watch will fail.

Although the watch itself is selling less, what I really want to know is how are bands selling. Because if you look closely, Apple has fooled us all. They sell the watch knowing that people will buy many times over on the band. And that is where they are making a killing.

/s
You say this in jest but you might not be far off target. One could liken the AW to a printer. The bands are the ink/toner. That's where the long money is.

If he's wearing a watch during surgery then I wouldn't want him operating on me.
He's an ER physician. He only does minor surgery such as stitches. But he still can't go from touching another patient to touching his phone (or watch) to touching you. That's why a smart watch suits his needs and doesn't make him lazy. It helps him avoid exposing you to nosocomial infection.

No **** Sherlock... they've just released some new models, no wonder sales are in a huge decline. Many people have been waiting for those new models, it's that simple.

Why do they always need to conduct a research to find that out? :p

Short battery life? Do you have an Apple Watch yourself then? I'm getting through a full day easily, with at least 30% left. Sometimes even 50%.

I love my Apple Watch.
The problem with wearables category is that it is currently too encompassing so it includes fitness devices that last over a week alongside Apple Watch which lasts a full 1-2 days for most everyone. All smartphones are 1-2 days of battery no matter who you ask but people are still lumping these wearables all together so customers are getting wildly different notions of good vs. poor battery life.

Except 18 month cycles isn't yearly. The next refresh isn't even due until March 2018.

It's still too early. It's a $350+ fashion device (or a sport device). Not many will be willing to have an obsolete $350+ piece of fashion with technology in 18 months. And those who really want it, already have it.

My apple watch was great. Had the series 2 and loved it until the sport band unclasped when I was in the ocean and it fell to the depths. Got hit by a couple big waves and the sport band just came right off. There goes $600 canadian

In order to make a circular smartwatch work, the software needs to be changed to adapt to it. And it's gonna look bad. We've seen it with Android Wear. I totally hate it. I think the current Apple Watch shows exactly how a smartwatch should be.

Functionality goes before design, that I can tell you. If you want design to work, you gotta first make sure the hardware, software is there, so you can think of how you're gonna make the design. Otherwise you'd have design and then you realize "hey, that chip doesn't fit!". :p
The Gear S2 actually looks good and has a nice clean interface compared to my Apple Watch. It's just very large on a woman. It looks good on my husband. And the next generation Gear S3 looks pretty much like a real regular watch. It's very nice looking.

I still prefer Apple Watches for myself.

One of the other main differences is that the few days/weeks of the Q3 time since the new watch came out, you couldn't get one! I've been to my local apple store several times over the last month and each time they don't have a Series 2 watch or at least one that would be affordable.

They should be comparing the first few months after the 1st gen release with the first few months after Series 2 release...This is a ridiculously useless comparison. This article should be removed from MR.
Unfortunately, that's not how quarterly reporting works. It get's reported... quarterly and it compares the quarters YoY. Besides these reports are for people trying to make money on the market. They're not really for our consumption. Although, they do what they're designed to do on a forum like MR. Drive conversation.

Take heart, there will be a profit report soon. It will have Apple leading.;)

Heck at my local Apple Store the watch display stood visitor-less on the first release and now you can't even get near the table there's so many people.
Not seeing this at my Apple store. I have been in several times this month because i am considering an ipad and the watch table is always empty

I don't know what it want it do, but frankly not what it's doing now. Do not disturb is my all time favorite thing and my phone volume is on probably 0.1%. I'm constantly on my phone, so why would I want notifications to interrupt my peace and quiet?
The fitness stuff would be nice, but it doesn't warrant the cost based on my interest.
It's Apple though. They'll probably do something to excite me sooner rather than later.
Confused by your statement. If you're constantly on your phone then how do you have any peace and quiet that can be interrupted? I'm assuming you have moments of peace and quiet off your phone that you do not wish to be interrupted. That's fair enough but I can only assume you are on your phone constantly because your job or family/friends require it. Wouldn't a notification system that doesn't require you to pull out your phone as much be ideal for someone like you? I only get a few calls/texts per day and even I pull out my phone 20x less per day. One of Apple Watch's unknown killer features is that it actually adds a lot of battery life to your iPhone (not that I need it) and that battery life translates to my time which I have more of now thanks to the watch.

But then there are those with deep pockets and expendable income, with the centric notion "I have to have it now." That doesn't change how customers are eager to buy, buy, buy.

And Gen 3 of the Apple Watch is likely for an overhaul, which could target the same demographic or bring in a new one.

Lol. I think you take consumer electronics companies a little too seriously.

It's sold faster than the original iPhone, and iPod.....what's the problem here exactly?

OH! you're someone that thinks new product categories become ubiquitous in the span of a two year span, that's funny.

You say this in jest but you might not be far off target. One could liken the AW to a printer. The bands are the ink/toner. That's where the long money is.
The bands are more like cases for iPhones. Most people have a case. (Though every Apple Watch owner has a band.)

There is a subset of people who have multiple cases for their iPhone. They like to change it up based on their mood. These are people who would likely have multiple bands for their watch.

I'm not one of those people. I have one case for my iPhone. I have one band for my Apple watch. (Technically, I have two: the one it came with and a knockoff black milanese loop that I got for $25 on Amazon. But I don't wear the original band at all.)

If you're always on your phone (and not talking through it).... then you're not out there making the money for it and you're not Apple's market.

A fashion accessory should look good, this watch design looks like crap. I'm not surprised they sold a bunch of them, they could sell an ITurd and the fanboys would snap it up.
Does the iTurd come with AC Wifi and a new OLED touch panel? I hear there is a new product right behind it called iWipe

Apple watch is not for everyone. You are either a watch person or not. I am not a watch person. Even though I have all other Apple products, I have zero interest in the Apple watch or any kind of watches or health trackers etc.
